Great for good friends and good drinks 12/22/2008

One of my favorite places to meet up with friends for a good night out. Great drinks and a friendly place! more

like the "Cheers" of midtown 7/28/2008

I work a few doors down at a restaurant and frequently my co-workers and I go to the porch after work or to eat there between shifts. We love Tony, Colin, Shannon, Caroline, James, Lauren, Bethany, Tiffany, Brooke, Stephanie and Sarah. We are in the service industry so it's nice to be taken care of after a long night of taking care of our guests. The service at Front Porch rocks. The food is really delicious and the kitchen is open until 1AM. I have been going there over a year and have only had one bad experience, just one. Every other visit has been great. It's a casual atmosphere where you see everything from shorts and flip flops to those dressed for a night of clubbing. If you haven't been, I highly recommend you try it! Pros: great service, 25 cent wing night on Monday, food is terrific Cons: they need new stuff to read on the ladies' room wall! more

Good for beers with friends, not dressy, trashy 7/4/2008

Okay so this place was pretty much a less trashy version of woodrows, but still pretty trashy compared to most of the nicer places surrounding it in the heart of midtown. first time going last night was a friday and my friend and i who are both very beautiful walked in by ourselves to check it out. There was a nice amount of people but it seemed like majority were paired off into groups and talking amongst themselves, except of course for us, and the weirdos standing alone. We relocated a couple times, bartenders weren't the greatest and they all seemed pretty stressed out. Around 12:45 a.m. a belligerent drunk elbowed my friend in the eyeball by accident and i got into it with him and nobody would kick him out. We took off to washington st. and will probably never return to the place. Pros: people go there Cons: not the type of people you want to meet more

Great staff, food and atmosphere! 4/10/2008

So I just moved here. Im from up north, and let me tell you...EVERYONE HERE IS SO NICE! The waitress' are so good looking, sweet and really know their stuff! The one that served us kept our table clean and our beers full. She was the example of "A Blonde Texas Beauty" with some comedic background! I loved the mini corn dogs and the pizza. It was no "deep dish" but I'm lovin the thin crust now. Fun music was playing thanks to the bartender I met named Tony. He was pretty funny as well. The age group ranged from 20's to 30's...perfect! I don't want to be around young kids or creepy old men. I WILL BE COMING BACK! :) more

Best crawfish I've found in Houston 4/1/2008

The crawfish is amazing and this is the 2nd year in a row I've gone for that reason. They are huge, very spicy, and reasonably priced at $3.75/lb. Get there early for crawfish because they usually run out of places to sit. The crowd at Front Porch is mostly professionals after work looking for a few drinks, but at nights and on the weekends there are usually more locals that live in the area visiting. Visit the new "Porchswing Pub" in the heights for a more casual crowd if that is what you prefer. Its the same bar (basically) and same owner. I would have given this place 5 stars but for as long as I can remember, Front Porch has horrible draft beer. Stick to bottles and you'll be OK. Pros: crawfish and good atmosphere/crowd Cons: draft beer more

Great Happy Hour Sport 3/23/2007

Great after work place. There's a great mix of crowd and their deck is really a nice feature and huge which is nice in midtown. Decent pub food and a convenient location if you work downtown. If you want to watch a game there, it isn't great. more

So much fun!! 1/25/2007

I love coming here during the week after work-it's so great to sit out on the patio with a bucket of beer and some friends. Good crowd, alot of young professionals. It gets crowded at night, but never so bad that you wait forever for a table. It's one of my favorite places in Houston!! Very chill, relaxed vibe-nothing pretentious at all. more

Great For Sports, Beer, and Friends 10/7/2006

Everytime I go here, I run into so many cool people. It's a great place to meet fun and interesting people and to meet up with your friends just to hang out. There are good food and drink specials, and the waitstaff is awesome! I love that you can sit outside on a nice day and enjoy a beer while watching sports on the bigscreen they have on the porch and enjoy the weather. You can bring your dog with you if you sit outside which is pretty cool. It's very relaxed and comfortable. I highly recommend Front Porch Pub and I will definately be going back many more times. Pros: service, food, drinks more

Great Spot! 1/13/2006

Good food, friendly staff, great place to meet friends and just hang. Even if it's chilly there are heaters to compensate. Love this place! Pros: inexpensive, good food, atmosphere Cons: crowded more

Great hangout! 11/8/2005

If you want a laid-back atmosphere with plenty of opportunity to people watch, this is the place. Plenty of young professionals come to this watering hole. Pros: people watching, laid-back atmosphere, good location more

Great place to hangout 8/5/2005

Front Porch is great. It doesn't need the fancy frill of other bars, the service makes up for that. Pros: Great Service, Inexpensive, cool patio more

I use to love this place 6/16/2005

This use to be one of the top watering holes in midtown. The service and quality of drinks are not near the quality they were in the past. I still enjoy the atmosphere and its great to people watch especially during the summer. All in all with some improvement it could once again be a great indoor/outdoor pub. Pros: Atmosphere, Porch, Food Cons: , Drink quality, Fuzzy math more

favorite bar in Houston 6/5/2004

The Front Porch is by far my favorite bar in the Houston and I know my opinion is not alone. It's relaxed, friendly, and now they serve FOOD! The owners are nice and the bartenders make an effort to remember your favorite drinks and your name. more

Cute 8/1/2003

Great area and a very comfortable bar. Not too crowded and the service was great. Overall a wonderful evening. And I was actually able to park in thier lot, not on the street which is always a plus. Pros: Beer selection, patio, Inexpensive more

Relaxed, fun hangout 1/14/2003

Where else in Houston can you go and see Dan Weiss and Chris Clarke in the same place? A fun, relaxed hangout with good beer selection plus the odd chance of running into the two above Houston celebrities makes this place a winner. Pros: beer selection, relaxed atmosphere Cons: food selection more

Fun Times 10/24/2002

Perfect little bar, not too crowded . Great place to shoot the breeze or pool. Pros: not too crowded, good place to meet, Great for late night more

Best Bartenders 9/23/2002

Love the beer selection, and a full bar too. Cant get friendlier and more personable service than this. more

Great place to relax with a cold one... 9/7/2002

This is one of my absolute favorite hangouts...whether it's happy hour on Thursday, or 3:00 PM on Sunday....I love going to the Front Porch. Always relaxing...I often find myself relaxing with a pint of my favorite amber (PLENTY of draft choices....unbelievable) on the swing with my wife... Very unassuming...and relaxed. Plus...they have GOLDEN TEE!!! Only one con: NO GOOD FOOD! Some bar eats would be great....but then again, it is a PUB! BIG Pro: AWESOME BEER SELECTION. By and far one of the best in Houston. more

Tuesday nights 8/10/2002

Best bar in Houston. This place makes midtown worth living at. Tuesdays steaks are awesome. Owners and waitstaff get to know you personally if you become a regular. Avoid Wednesday's cheap drinks college nights. more

Re: Green Tuds 8/4/2002

In the rating of a simple bar you've managed to drop the fact that you own a BMW, have been to Paris, and can't wait for the ladies to see your abs. Might you be compensating for something? Despite this loser, the crowd at FPP has been consistently fun and friendly (and cute) and they've got the best beer selection in Houston (some may have more taps, but nobody has better quality). Fun place, great location - keep ot up! more

  • In Short
A crowd of beer taps at the bar matches the crowd of drinkers on the front porch of this leisurely pub at downtown's edge. There are even more beers bottled for the beer enthusiast. Mellow out with chocolate stout against brick-and-plaster walls, or play some pool on one of the tables overlooking Gray Street. The urban-casual, 20-something crowd is multicultural, albeit conservative; men decked out in khakis, women in long skirts.
