Let me start off by saying...I love my Mexican food! My sister and I eat Mexican at least once every other week. I've heard so many good things about this place, so I was extremely excited to try it! The service and beer was great, however the food was terrible. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Next time I'll go to el Camp or Emiliano's. Save your money. What a waste of forty bucks! more

There is no doubt that these are the best wings in the world! Friendly service with just the right neighborhood flavor to it. Great beer selection (draughts and bottles) and great fun at the bar. The Chili and burritos are also great! Go! Enjoy! more

We are really lucky to live only 5 minutes away from ""The Inn"" so we're there for happy hours, lunchtime and dinner, but if you don't live as close as us, it's worth the drive. It's family owned and operated and everything is homemade and delicious. Our favorite items as a family (in no particular order) are the flash fried, then grilled wings, the soups (my 8 year old daughter loves their chicken noodle soup), the burritos, the lime cilantro vinaigrette salad dressing, the quesadillas, the ""skinny mexican"" and you can't leave without getting a margarita, sopapillas, and/or a dish of homemade ice cream... Best of all, it's a great value and you never leave feeling hungry! more

I must start by saying I am not usually a Mexican food fan...but I really like the Franklin Inn. They offer a huge variety on the menu....from Mexican food to burgers to kids meals. My 7 year old son loves it too as he can get butter noodles! The food is very fresh and I hear most of it is homemade. Absolutely love the wings! Drinks are great too. All is very affordable! more

I have been to the Franklin Inn several times and the fresh food and friendly environment keep me coming back! Everything you hear is true, they serve only the freshest ingredients and if those ingredients are not up to their standards, then they won't use them. And the homemade ice cream is out of this world! The peanut butter chocolate chip is my favorite....well, it is tied for the mexican chocolate and the oreo. Worth every calorie! But if you are watching your weight, the skinny mexican is everything you could ask for in a tasty mexican dish at under 400 calories. There is something for everyone and kids are welcome too! more

We went to the Franklin Inn for lunch today, and left after waiting about 30 minutes without being waited on at all. As we sat there we watched as 3 tables received their drinks and 2 of those tables also had placed their orders. All of those people came in after we did. It appeared that most of the other customers were well known by the staff. It's great to treat your regulars well, but you will not gain new customers by ignoring them. We will not attempt to eat there again. more

It is truly hard to express how terrible this place is. The best thing I can say about it is the beer was cold. One thing is for certain - the so-called Mexican food is atrocious. My girlfriend's burrito thingy was like a glorified hot pocket. After getting the vibe from looking at other people's food before ordering, I went simple with tacos - and those were terrible - they had no taste and the taco shells were terrible. I make better tacos at home. Please do not believe the hype. I do have to say the atmosphere was decent, so I could see this being an OK play for sitting at the bar for a couple beers and munching on chips and salsa (which wasn't that good, certainly not homemade) but I would never go here for dinner again. more

My wife and me went for the first time. Poor service, which I can sacrifice for good food. But, the food was not very good. The salsa was good, but it was served with cold stale chips that must have been left over from lunch. The margarita that I had was very tasty and the beer my wife had was cold. We ordered a chicken quesadilla as an appetizer, it was good, then down hill from there. She had the taco dinner with rice and side salad. I had a three choice combo with chimichanga, beef enchilada, and chile relleno. The tacos were cold, dry and tasteless, my enchilada, the beef was rubbery, dry, and stringy. The chile relleno was under cooked (the batter like undercooked scrambled eggs) and extremely salty. The rice was crunchy, like it was undercooked or left over. We ordered a side of guacamole, it did not have much flavor. I have never had quacamole that had to be mixed with sour cream, unless they were using sub par or over riped avacados. I lived in San Antonio, and San Diego and have had some very good Mexican and Tex Mex food that set the standard for my taste. This place was absolutely horrible. I have to say that when I got home, the wad that was sitting in my stomach made it's way into the toilet in no time. I do not recommend this place or food to anyone. I challenge any good review to try a place like El Campasino's to try what a good Mexican food place has to offer, and at a fair price. Sixty dollars to vomit my meal was a little steep. more

With all the glowing reviews, I had high hopes for finding this a top-notch Mexican restaurant. It was not to be. From beginning to end, this was a bad experience. The sign said ""Wait to Be Seated,"" but no one showed up to seat us, so we had to go into the bar to ask. There were only two other tables of diners when we sat down, yet a simple lunch took forever to show up. The beans were dry and tasteless; the guacamole was the strangest, most unpleasant taste we've ever encountered for this usually exquisite blend of avocado, tomato, onion and chili pepper or powder -- no need to ruin it with sour cream. The taco was fine; the chili relleno just soggily mediocre. Obviously, there must be better things on the menu, but these are standard Mexican fare and frequently indicative of the quality of a restaurant's food. What a shame. The Franklin Inn is good if you know what to get - and that is the wings. They are grilled hot wings. They take 20+ minutes to prepare, so don't be in too much of a hurry. But, they are worth the wait. The wings are split - you get a combination of the drumettes and the wings. They are moist but crispy on the outside (you can order them extra crispy or extra charred), and are fairly spicy. They are charred from the grill, and are coated with a trace of tobasco-based sauce. My wife and I are recent transplants from Texas, and we have been on a quest for good Mexican food (largely unsuccessful) since we got here. We found Franklin Inn online and decided to try it out with another couple after reading the reviews. I'd say I agree with the majority of the posts here as far as the margaritas go; they are quite tasty and they don't short you on the tequila. They sell them by the masonry jar which is fun. As far as the food goes, I'd say it's well above average for what we've had in the Pittsburgh area although it's still not quite what we've been looking for since leaving Texas. I ordered seafood enchiladas that were quite good once I got over the fact that it came with a dill cream sauce that I would've expected on stroganoff or some German beef dish instead. The chile con carne is good with chorizo added, although we wished it was a little thicker. All in all the food was very good if you aren't sticklers about how authentic it is (it's a Mexican restaurant that features Ben Franklin as its namesake and proudly recommends hot wings as a customer favorite, so what do you expect?). This cozy little place has great mexican food, margarita's, and chips. You might have to wait a little to be seated, but, it is way worth it!! Pros: great homemade chips and salsa Cons: You might have to wait on a table if you get there after 6pm more

I'm not sure where to start! Everything is awesome starting from the service, to the drinks, down to dessert! Have a designated driver handy because once you have one margarita you have to have two. Everything is made from fresh from scratch and served so beautifully you almost hate to put your fork in and disrupt the colors...of course your mouth watering quickly prompts you to! Once you do bite into the food you can taste those colors bursting in flavor. Make sure to save room for the homemade ice cream, my favorite being the banana or chocolate chile'. Anyone who doesn't like the Franklin Inn abviously doesn't know mexican or has had their taste buds burnt off!!!! Pros: great food, service and Ambience Cons: I can't get there nearly enough! more

If this is Mexican, I'm a water frog, I have never seen the likes of this before,everything in the place comes from the MICROWAVE. Although the staff is friendly, the chicken in the fajita was not fresh. The onions were deep-fried. And the chips tasted worse than out of a grocery store. more

The food is pretty good. It can be bland at times, but you can tell they use the freshest of ingredients. Their chips & salsa are very good, and they have the best wings & margaritas I've ever had! Overall a great place to go to, I live right down the street so I frequent the place often. They are very consistent with their food. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
