First of all, if you don't want a freaking tiny booth, which by the way they aren't tiny, then be smart enough to call in ahead of time and make reservations!!! Idiots!!! I've bee...

This is not the american diner I expected--no grilled cheese, blt, etc. Instead, it is overpriced diner nuevo. $7 tortilla soup? $8 side salad? The food is good, but expensive. Se...

FUNand GREAT FOOD 8/13/2003

Ok- I HAVE TO DISAGREE with these people! it has a fun fast paced feel of a diner with a menu of upscale orignal creations. The staff has ALWAYS been friendly and seem to know their wine list and menu back and forth. aNYONE WHO IS ANYONE IN THIS CITY knows Fog City is a staple of San Francisco-and should stay that way! more

Touristy, but decent food... 4/8/2003

Fog City Diner is typically a tourist joint but since it's two blocks from work, I've eaten there several times. I've had the bread basket appetizer and calamari which were both decent. I typically have the salmon blt on texas toast with sweet potato fries, a bit greasy but tasty. The decor is art deco with a lot of black and chrome. Service is very professional and timely. Overall, it's a bit pricey for lunch but the food is above average... Pros: Sweet potato fries! Cons: Often busy more

Lower the high expectations 2/5/2003

I've dined at Fog City at least 5 times. I don't suggest this restaurant for a romantic date or if you're on a schedule. But it's a great weekday, catch-a-meal-after-work place. The food is comforting (large portions) and reasonably priced. Don't expect fancy, snooty service. It's named as a ""Diner"" to give it a hometown feeling, not a drive in. Pros: food, service Cons: busy on weekends more

Times up 1/21/2003

I'm not sure what has been sitting around longer, the restaurant or the food they serve. There are plenty of struggling places in San Francisco with wonderful food, but if you are interested in going to a place where the staff will act like they are doing you a huge favor to serve you crap then this is the place. The only reason this place is packed is it's reputation, but things aren't the same as they used to be. Humility goes a long way and good food goes even further, but this place has neither. more

Forget it 12/18/2002

I tried to eat at Fog City Diner today - even made a reservation for our party of four. We arrived 5 minutes late and they had given our table away to a party of two. We waited because the hostess said a table would be ready in ""just a few minutes."" Twenty-five minutes later we said forget it and left. My one prior experience at this place also involved a wait for a table, a distracted waiter and ok food. I don't plan to go back again - not worth it. Pros: Interesting decor, Decent food Cons: Service more

First Date Restaurant 11/30/2002

Even though I went with a bunch of girls I noticed it would be a great 1st date place. Very unique environment: plush seats make it look like a diner, but dimmer lights and dressed up waiters make the place feel fancier. It's crowded, loud, and fun. The prices range from $8-$26 for entrees so any budget would fit. The appetizer breads were great! Pros: fun atmosphere, good service, comfy Cons: need reservation more

no good 8/2/2002

Years ago, this place had excellent food and you didn't mind it being overpriced. I ate here a month ago, and it sucked! AND I had to pay too much for this crappy food. The chicken was tough and dry, the french fries were old--like the had been left out in the desrt and then refried 40 times. I felt robbed. Pros: great looking place Cons: food sucks more

Change your Name!! 8/1/2002

This is not the american diner I expected--no grilled cheese, blt, etc. Instead, it is overpriced diner nuevo. $7 tortilla soup? $8 side salad? The food is good, but expensive. Service was the best value. If your looking for Alice in this diner, keep walking. Pros: Service, good parking Cons: Expensive more

The best strawberry shortcake on earth! 7/19/2002

I didn't know much about Fog City Diner before going, but it was one of the best meals I've had in SF since moving here 2 years ago. The ambiance is relaxed and friendly while the food (mostly unique versions of classic comfort foods) is divine...Especially the macaroni and cheese and the strawberry shortcake, which uses real bisquits just like it should be! Pros: Great meal experience Cons: Hard to park more

ValuRight 5/26/2002

Great food, ambience, and price. Advise reservations, tho they will seat you without after a wait of 25 min. Seemed children-friendly, too. Pros: Inexpensive, children welcomed Cons: Reservations advised, bit crowded more

Great, real food 5/13/2002

This isn't the trendy stuff -- it's the classics all done quite well (meatloaf, fish and chips, burgers, etc.). The prices are a tad on the high side, but remember where you are and what you're eating. No room for complaints -- this is good stuff. Pros: Great diner food Cons: Parking is tough more
