Best

oh my god this place and food amazing highly recommend

Worst

Not the best Indian food I've had - Jaipur is much, much better. Flavor of India needs to step it up or else get out of the kitchen.

superb resturant, excellent food and service 4/12/2008

This restaurant in west hollywood is so cool, the food is really up to expectations, the servers are cool and Chicken tikka masala is ""BOMB"" and decor is updated seems like its some kinda festival season, the atmosphere is neat. Try paswari naan, saag panner and mix flavor mmmmmm yummy. you will really like it. more

wonderful environment, deliciuos food. 4/11/2008

I have been to this place for like 2-3 times, this is a wonderful place, excellent service(wonderful servers), don't talk about food its so delicious, I and some friends of mine went to this place for dinner on friday night , it was a busy night though chef Dershan came out of kitchen and asked us if everything was alright, it was so touching, he also showed us clay oven he is such a nice guy. Lights around the restaurant was beautiful. I love this place. I'm sure I'll be there when I'm back from Florida again. If you wanna enjoy delicious Indian food and fine service, Oh boy this is the door you wanna knock at. more

rude owner, doesn't tolerate gay peoeple! 4/9/2008

i went there the other night with my boyfriend to have a quiet dinner for our 1 year anniversary. apparently the owner, standing in the corner kept staring at us and making weired faces. Pros: food was ok Cons: the owner in the corner! more

Great food and excellent service. 2/22/2008

I drove by many times never ate at Flavor of India, until now. I end up eating awesome food in lighted alfresco patio with my girlfriend. The food is excellent, inexpensive and of fine quality, they could make any chicken dish ""all white meat only "" just for $1.95 extra and if you ask for easy on oil they do it for free lol. The decor is like a paradise it starts slow however gets busy by 6 pm. The amazing thing is i can also enjoy there food staying at home since they also deliver thats cool. I'm glad I discovered this place and highly recommend it to everyone. more

DARSHAN IS A GOD 9/28/2007

I don't even call this restaurant Flavor of India -- I call it DARSHAN'S -- he is the owner. head cook, and enlightened divinity. In fact, Darshan and his cooking are so inspired that every single person I have ever brought to Darshan's claim that it is the best Indian food they have ever had. Let me let you in on a secret -- it is called....MALAI KOFTA. It is a specisl dish that you will only ever find at Darshan's...I can't explain it, it's sublime, and to this date I have (in all seriousness) written 2 poems about it. Not only is the food absolutely out of this world, but the atmosphere is both cozy and temple-like, and they have free refills on masala chai tea! I ADORE THIS RESTAURANT. more

Great place to go !!!! 9/26/2007

Excellent service and food! The owners and waiters go above and beyond to make you feel like you're a part of the family. Servers seems like putting there life for the custmer to give them extremly well service. This is the best indian romentic place i ever found in West hollywood. more

Best food and nice atmosphere 9/26/2007

Most Indian places seems to have indifferent service at best. At Flavor of India they seem to actually care that you are having a good time. Ask about some of the dishes you are having and there's a good chance the chef will come out and enthusiastically answer your questions. Food is great, the semi-outdoor setting is nice. The menu is nice, with great vegetarian dishes. dinner has been great everytime we have gone. more

THIS PLACE REAKS OF HOMOPHOBIA 9/19/2007

I have never been treated so disrepected in my life- I ordered food and the delivery driver had the nerve to call me a ""derogitory. I am appauled at the service they lack. I live in West Hollywood - a known gay area of Los Angeles. I would think that a restaraunt in GAY west hollywood would be a little tolerant in this matter. After calling the owner - the owner let me know that this matter was not his problem that it was the delivery persons problem.. im in complete disgust. Cons: everything more

HORRIBLE SERVICE- HORRIBLE FOOD. 9/19/2007

AFTER CALLING TO ORDER FOOD- I QUICKLY ASKED FOR THE MANAGER- THE GUY ANSWERING THE PHONE WAS OUTRAGIOUSLY RUDE.I THREATENED TO CALL MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY AND DISPUTE CHARGES AFTER THEM CHARGING FOR THE FOOD ALTHOUGH I NEVER RECIEVED ANY. THE MANAGER, A LADY, THEN TALKED ME DOWN SUGGESTING JUST TAKE THE CREDIT FOR NEXT TIME. WELL, I JUST CALLED IN A CREDIT AND THEY SAID THAT THERE ARE NO WOMEN WORKING THERE.. THIS PLACE IS A DISASTER Pros: NO PROS Cons: THAT THERE STILL OPEN FOR BUSINESS more

Great Lunch Buffet 9/1/2007

I just went for the very first time today and tried the lunch buffet and it was really tasty, I used to drive all the way to culver city for an indian buffet that I like down there but this one is only 3 blocks from my house and waaay better. I will for sure be going back. Pros: good food, great decor, service Cons: small parking lot more

Awesome Food, Fantastic customer service! 8/1/2007

Ok folks, I can't figure out why this place has even one bad review, seriously! I am an Indian and believe me when I say that most Indian food in the US tastes pathetic to say the least. But Flavor of India changed my opinion in a second. I and my husband had the Baingan Bharta and the Lamb Frankie and they were both so delicious. And the customer service is exceptionally good. I wanted to have Salt Lassi( buttermilk flavored with salt, spices and lemon juice) and though they did not have it on the menu, the chef (Darshan Singh) made it for me immediately and was it good!!! Brought back memories of good Indian food in India. The food was very affordable, the tab came to $30 for both of us. The chef actually came out and said goodbye to us and the personal touch will take this restaurant a long way. All in all, an amazing experience. Pros: Great food, Personal Touch, good customer service Cons: You'll have to make sure you get the chef's attention if you want something made to order more

Worst Indian in LA!! 7/1/2007

WHAT A JOKE!!! I've tried almost every Indian restaurant from West Hollywood to Santa Monica and this is easily the worst. Short version of my experience: 1. Tasteless food (almost impossible for Indian food but somehow these people manage to do it); 2. Awful service; 3. Seriously overpriced. I recently went with a friend and we both had chicken dishes. I had the Chicken Vindaloo - the menu said it was ""Extra spicy"". When it came out I couldn't even recognize it as being chicken vindaloo. The dish was way too watery and had an odd color to it. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the chicken pieces looked like the processed kind you get at the grocery's freezer. They were rectangular in shape and hard in texture - not appetizing in appearance, but hey, not all tasty foods are, right? Then I tasted it. Yup, tasted like chicken thrown in water. ""Extra spicy?"" I sure couldn't taste any, and neither could my friend who thought it almost tasted ""sweet"". So then I tried his dish - just as disappointing. To add insult to injury, our tasteless meal was accompanied by a ridiculous price tag. We paid over $42 PLUS tip for two entrees because they charged us for extra rice and naan bread that was barely enough for one person. I wouldn't have been upset about it except both of us left the restaurant still hungry, and the the food was awful. If you like Indian food, you'll find better food at pretty much any buffet than you will here. Nawab in Santa Monica is only 10 bucks and the food is AMAZING. If you're in West Hollywood or Beverly Hills, go further east on Santa Monica or Melrose and you'll do better at any of the other restaurants. Even Akbar and Star of India are better than this place. Pros: It looks nice from the outside Cons: If you have no problem with really expensive, tasteless Indian food, then go here. more

Great food, even better service! 7/11/2006

Visiting LA from SF...we spontaneously stopped in at this charming restaurant on Santa Monica Blvd. We managed to sneak in at 7pm on a Friday night and were seated promptly on the covered patio. Everything was great, from the appetizer (try the Idli!) to the tandoori mixed grill (only the shrimp disappointed, overcooked/dry), meats were all tender and spiced just right, and the Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious. Pros: food/ covered-outdoor seating/ great service more

4 out of 10 was agreed on by all in our party. 4/9/2006

Except for the one about the dry chicken, the bad comments were correct. My belief is that this restaurant took the opportunity to hide the less desirable parts of the chicken beneath the sauce similar to the dollar chinese mystery meals. I ended up taking pieces of my girlfriends tandoori chicken and dipping it in my tika sauce. To add, dont go there starving. The portions are very small and very expensive. Service was horrible. I had to ask them three times to bring my coke. (which came in a can) They forgot the rice we had ordered, until the check came. Instead of removing the not received order of rice from the bill, the waiter offered me a glass of wine even though we had our coats on and obviously waiting to leave. more

Great Indian Food, Warm Atmosphere 1/14/2006

Wonderful place for a date. The food is authentic and tasty. The ambiance is cozy. Nice place to have a long conversation over Chai Masala that is served by friendly wait and bus staff. Mostly outdoors, but covered by a rain proof tarp and heat lanterns, this warmly lit restaurant evokes feelings of being abroad, far far away from Santa Monica Boulevard. Pros: Food, Romantic Ambiance, Value for Money Cons: Parking more

Best Overall Indian Restaurant 12/30/2005

My boyfriend and I have been going here for several years. Everything about this place is RIGHT. The food is tasty - try the chicken tikka masala and lamb curry - the ambiance is very romantic, and the service is exceptional. The owners always come and greet us and make sure we receive first rate service. If I had to recommend one Indian restaurant in all of LA for a nice evening out with a loved one, or even for meeting up with a group to celebrate a special occasion, Flavor of India would be my choice (and I've sampled many Indian restaurants). Pros: Romantic, Tasty food, Best Service Anywhere more

Nothing special 10/2/2005

We ordered the bhel puri as an appetizer and it was sour and spicy, but it lacked actual taste (though it would be fair to note that this was our first time trying this type of dish so maybe its supposed to be that way). The aloo gobi was spicy, but it lacked flavor and the portion was a bit small. The chicken tikka masala was good (although some pieces of chicken were a tad dry) and was a good-sized dish. In terms of service, the hostess was very nice and our waiter was attentive. The covered outdoor patio has a nice romantic feel. All in all, it was a decent meal, but it was nothing special, so I dont think well make an effort to go back. Pros: Service, Ambiance Cons: Parking, Value more

User review by atla 8/20/2005

we ordered hot and spicy chicken vindaloo and it turned out to be a very different vindaloo from what we had at many other indian restaurants. it wasn't hot or spicy as it said (it was more like a chicken stew) - absolutely hated it. also ordered rack of lamb - it was cooked well (not under cooked or over cooked) but lacked the full indian flavor. the service wasn't very impressive. many times we had to call for the service. their staff were gathering and chit-chatting instead of paying attention to their customers. more
