Getting stale 3/27/2010

This place used to be better. Went recently, they brought out cold pizza that seemed like it'd been sitting out, the server was fine but not really good. They've also had the same pizzas on the menu for years now, might be time to switch it up. Pros: Arugula pizza, environment Cons: Cold pizza, old menu more

Interesting twist on pizze 10/18/2008

The pizza is thin crust and quite nice, but if you are looking for deep dish or traditional NY style pizza, this is not your place. C1 offers a list of beer and some great salads, but beyond that the menu is very limited. more

Wait Staff 10/14/2007

I used to be a fan of this Harvard Square hangout/pizza stop. Until this past Saturday night when my friend and I waited 15 minutes at our table and were passed nine times by two waitresses who made eye contact but made no attempt to take our drink or food orders. Needless to say we left hungry and upset only to be told by the defensive hostess who smugly watched this all unfold...""Well it's not my job, I DID seat you"". So they will seat you if you are Black, but make no promises to serve you. Harvard Square has so much to offer and with gracious service, the best part is it's all just steps away, but not at Cambridge I. more

Best very thin-crust pizza 12/1/2006

My favorite toppings are the chicken sausage and arugula, which is basically a salad over pizza crust. Simple no-frills menu (but gourmet), great decor (I like the bench seats on raised concrete slabs), good service, although there is almost always a 15min+ wait in the evenings. Order a half-pizza each (unless you're really hungry), a beer and share. Pros: Gourmet pizza; quality ingredients Cons: Long wait, noisy more

Bad Pizza...Great Atmosphere 11/15/2006

I love pizza, Cambridge 1 is not that great. The crust is like eating a pita with some melted cheese and toppings. They do have a cool atmosphere and a great beer selection. Great place to hang out, bad place to eat. Pros: Great hang out Cons: BAD FOOD more

Never disappointed 7/17/2006

My boyfriend and I have gone to C1 many times and have never been disappointed by the food, the service, or the atmosphere. The potato pizza is the best and their salads are simple and delicious. For those that comment about the bad service - just remember that if you're nice then the waiter/waitress/bartender tends to be nice right back at ya. Nobody wants to provide good service to a whiny customer with high expectations and no imagination. Pros: food, atmosphere, just pizzas and salads Cons: occasional long wait, college kids, parking more

User review by lisaflyg 3/9/2006

I love C1, the pizza is great especially if you are watching your carbs. It is not Domino's for sure, more like a grilled pita. It is very healthy. They also have a great beer selection. Salads are good too. Parking sucks so you have to T it. more

great ""fancy"" pizza 1/27/2006

these arent traditional pizzas but they are absolutely tasty! i love the mushroom one and the rosemary potato one... the ambience is casual yet hip. if you like pizza but wanna try something different this is a great place. Pros: good location, great taste, reasonably priced Cons: sometimes crowded, sometimes noisey more

It's okay 9/23/2005

I was expecting to love this place. It is close to my house, has a very laid-back atmosphere, is across the street from the movie theater, etc. But unfortunately I didn't like the food. I didn't leave hungry or anything, and my salad was good, but the pizza was burnt, cold and not tasty. Interestingly they managed to burn the crust while not melting the cheese. I ordered the chicken sausage pizza and the ""sausage"" aspect of it was flecks of ground chicken in marinara sauce. I'll be going back because all our friends love it, but I am not a fan. Pros: Atmosphere, Location Cons: Unappetizing pizza, Very limited menu more

Fabulous thin crust pizzas 3/17/2005

This place has great thin crust pizzas in all sorts of interesting combinations. The pizzas also aren't filled with cheese unless you get the 5 cheese pizza. A great pizza is the chicken which is full of chicken and vegetables. Go there early as the line gets long. more

Food provisions audacious. 3/15/2005

I thought maybe I paid in pesos because what they served made me feel like a starving refugee. I was not expecting pita bread sprinkled with an occaisonal topping to qualify as pizza. I do not understand how they get off calling a giant pile of greens, which I can get at haymaket for a quarter, with some cheese shavings and a touch of dressing (combined 50 cents) an $8 salad. An establishment of this character offends my sense of justice. If you need persepctive compare the $17 full pizza which weighs at best the same as a 12 piece set of bic medium point pens with the NorthEnd Pizzeria Regina's pizzas that are the equivalent of two reams of card stock paper. I will not comment on variance of flavor. If there was food on the pizza(pita) it would taste like that food. . . but it does not. Pros: Unecessarily Trendy, Obscure Ambiance Cons: High Cost, No food, Inaccurate reviews more

Awesome 2/17/2005

This place is damn good. The food (pizza & salads) are excellent, bartenders are cool, and it isn't crowded after 10pm most nights, so relaxing and having a beer or three is definitely an option. Appears to be more upscale than it is, and it draws a mix of 22yr olds to 35yr olds. Pros: Food, Drinks, Atmosphere more

Best Pizza/Bar in Town 5/8/2004

We enjoy their pizza at least once a week! Not only is the pizza highly addictive, the atmosphere is worth a sit down instead of a take out. Pros: Amazing grilled pizza, Cool architecture more

Often Overlooked... 2/14/2004

...since it is across from The Border Cafe. One of the best pizza joints outside of town. With an excellent wine list, it is the place to be when going to a movie across the way. The pizza is original, with while you wait spicy, breadsticks-you must share with the entire bar. If sitting in the restaurant, you may have to sit with another party. I recommend sitting at the bar for a quick bite with a glass of wine before a good flick! PS-On Friday nights, you may get lucky and meet Maya. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Good Wine List, Harvard Square Cons: , Pizza is overpriced, Small more

Different.. 2/3/2004

Well, the pizza was very tasty. But its hard to call it pizza.. I grill pizzas all summer myself, and found the crust to be lacking at C1. It was closer to a grilled pita than crust - I feel it needs a little more body to it in order to be called pizza. Call it something else - grilled flatbread - and you have a hit. But I can't buy into it as pizza. The topping selection was great - I really enjoyed each pie we tried, as far as flavor went. Service was very prompt, and the beer selection was suprisingly admirable. Good snacking, but you might leave hungry. The restaurant is very nice, a minimalist change from the surrounding spots. Pros: tasty, unique, good atmosphere more

pizza good, service bad 1/25/2004

My husband and I went in there I think on a Sunday night. It was pretty slow. The pizza was tasty and a very good beer selection but the bartender was very rude. Surprising since it was slow. I don't think I would want to go back which is ashame since I really enjoyed my food but the service was lousy. Pros: food, beer Cons: service more

very good, not great! 9/22/2003

My boyfriend and I go to Cambridge 1 all teh time as we live around the corner. I am in love with the grilled chicken salad with delicious balsamic cressing (I always add their fressh shaved parmasean also). But the pizza sometimes leaves something to be desired. They need to be hotter and made with more spices, however, the potato pizza is perfection. What a unique an tasty invention! more

Have we ever heard of flavor? 6/4/2003

While some may enjoy sitting in a cold, minimalist atmosphere, I do not, at least not when I am eating pizza. And this pizza just isn't worth the $15. There are no evenly distributed spices and the flavor is , as the atmosphere, minimal . The secret to pizza is getting the spice content just right, unfortunately this chef lacks that. Good beer and wine selection and we had a pleasant waiter but the bartender was far from pleasant when we walked in, she was actually quite pretentious and rude to us when we asked her abotu the place. Not a good way to start out. I don't think I'll go back. Pros: not smoky, not crowded Cons: the food, no parking, pretentuos more

Great atmosphere and delicious pizza 5/13/2003

I love the thin crust pizza that is served at Cambridge 1. It is unlike any that I've tried in Boston, and the toppings are great too (e.g. portobello mushrooms, chicken sausage, potato, etc.). The menu is simple, and every pizza that I've tried has been great. In addition, the cool atmosphere and helpful staff make this place awesome! more
