A new restaurant opened in Effingham a few months ago-and it is a winner! Kristie Campbell, an Effingham native-and her husband Niall Campbell have opened the Firefly Grill. Niall is the chef-he has formerly been with The Blue Macaw, Bread Box Cafe, and The Lark Creek Inn. The atmosphere is casual, but classy. The building is constructed of old barn siding in various shades with an added pond for waterfront dining. The bar area is elegant and the kitchen is somewhat open to view. The food is fabulous and unlike anything offered in the area. This is gourmet "city" food in small town Effingham. Vegetables and herbs are grown on site. I have eaten there 4 times so far, and have loved everything. Prices range from $10.00 for a oven fired pizza (big enough to share) to around $28.00 for Oak-Fired Veal Chop or Venison Chops. They have everything from Chicken Pot Pie to Wild Alaskan Salmon in phyllo dough. My favorites so far-the Cream of Wild Mushroom Soup, the Creme Brulee, the Soft-Shelled Crab BLT! The menu changes nightly, so there is always a surprise! I can't say enough about how wonderful it is to get food of this quality in my own hometown!
