Well folks, here we have a real New York legend. Fanelli's has been around since SOHO was inhabited by artists -- not the ultra-rich or the kitsch. To go to Fanelli's is to go e...

Just because something's old and has been around a long time doesn't necessarily make it good. Fanelli's got a great location - an easy draw for the artists still in SoHo, the mo...

Very serious about its bar-ness 3/19/2006

this is another one of those New York places that will never die. As a par and pub, I like it quite a bit, even if it seems to have more of that "men posturing for the benefit of each other" vibe than I really know what to do with. They have a small room in the back that's more for dining, but it doesn't have the atmosphere of the bar, so stay in the front if you. This place gets crowded easily, so plan accordingly (i.e., arrive early, or go off nights), but is a great warm stop during winter shopping. more

Crap Service, but I still come here 3/19/2006

Rude service is actually more accurate. But I come back for a couple of reasons. 1. It is one of the few reasonably priced restaurants in the neighborhood. 2. I love their omelettes. 3. The fries are darn good. 4. Sometimes I just feel like eating in a tavern. That is what Fanelli's is - a simple tavern that serves pub food and has a constant stream of patrons at the bar. Just because is it in one of the trendiest neighborhoods doesn't mean that it has changed its ways since opening in 1872. It is what it is and will stay that way, thank you very much. more

This is still a bar.... 8/21/2005

Fanelli's has been in the same place since 1922 but there has been a new owner since the early 1980's. Fortunately it still has the feel of a down and dirty artists' bar where you can get some food with the alcohol. The dinginess also effectively keeps out the people who are more comfortable at places like the Merc bar down the block. more
