unbeatable barbaque 3/14/2003

The ribs, bread pudding, drunkin apples, and corn muffins are the best I have ever tasted. Their roasted chicken tastes just like costco's, which is good. What I did not like was the atmosphere. It appealed more to hunters than families and it was as dark as a bar. The restrooms could be little cleaner. If you LOVE BBQ this is for you! 1/9/2003

I want great taste, good value, & an appropriate atmosphere. Famous Daves has all the above. Most SLC restaurants cater to the bland pallet no guts same old, same old, blaaaa! Let's compare a few of the favorite SLC BBQ shops 1.) Sugar-House BBQ is kind of bland and not near as generous as FD's. 2.) The Q on the other hand reheats dry, over cooked meat then they try to hide that fact by smothering it in an average BBQ sauce, besides that, they are over priced. If you have had real BBQ around the country, in places like Memphis, Tennessee or Oklahoma, or even Texas, you know what BBQ is supposed to taste like. Famous Dave's is as close as your going to get to real BBQ. Famous Dave's is the exception here. The food is wonderful, servings are generous. more

This place is great! Best BBQ in SLC (I actually go to the one in Layton), it's noisy enough that your kids will fit right in (there's even a roll of paper towels for when your 4-yr old inevitably spills his drink), and service is fast and friendly. BEST BARBECUE! 10/18/2002

Visited for the first time last Tuesday for lunch. Being a recent Virginia arrival, I've had my share of barbecue and Famous Dave's is WAY UP THERE! Excellent atmosphere, good service, and the food speaks for itself. The roasted chicken was wonderful, with great sides of fries, corn, and corn muffin. Ended with their famous bread pudding! I mean, where else can you go hungry to a restaurant, order your food, have it delivered on a garbage can lid, and leave completely satisfied (and with some leftovers as well)? This place is either really good and quick, or painfully slow. My wife and I went to eat Sunday afternoon. We got right in to sit down within 5 minutes, ordered, and had to wait 33 minutes for a sandwich. The chicken on my sandwich was burned black. The waiter was apologetic, saying how busy they were, but a group that came in about ten minutes after us, was served their food before us. I'll have to be VERY hungry before I go back. Finally someone who know BBQ 9/6/2002

These guys know their BBQ. Slow smoked, slow cooked, wood fired flavor, no liquid smoke here. Next time you are in there ask them to show you their smoker. They seem to loved to show it off.There are no substitutes for time and tender loving care. Quality and quantity. A full rack of ribs will feed a family of four for the winter. They call it a St. Louis style rib. All I know is they are meaty, tender and put to shame the pressure cooked/boiled mini ribs most restaurants pass off as BBQ. There is not space to talk about the rest of the menu but it is just as good. Chicken, Brisket to die for and a pork sandwich that you will crave everyday for lunch. Famous Dave's is SO GOOD!! The service was great -- friendly and incredibly fast! The three of us got the All American BBQ Feast for Two and still had food to take home. The cornbread was perfect, the beef brisket fall-apart tender, and I loved all the sauces they had to offer. Good eats! more

From San Diego, Getting transfered to SLC and have been there a couple of times... Only problem is I always leave there with a stomache ache, because I try to finish everything on my plate. Great BBQ, Great Service, Fast, AND BIG Servings for the dollar. Man I cant wait till my next full stomache. :) Pros: Great food, Great service, Great prices Cons: expanding waist more

Everything is good at Famous Dave's. Been there many times and never had a bad anything. The atmosphere is great, the servers are friendly and professional AND the BBQ is the BEST. It's crowded, but all the best food places are.....it's well worth and hour or so wait. more

My husband & I love Daves! He is from Georgia, and has told me time and time again that Dave's has the best BBQ in Utah. He even says it could be better than his Dad's! Thats almost sacralige! Pros: Inexpensive, Great Mood Music, Lots of Sauces! more
