Editorial review from Citysearch 6/16/2013

So I have given Famous Dave's manager, Dave an opportunity to make things right, but after a month, no follow-up call. So here you go Dave, thanks for your hospitality. Went to FD about 3 weeks ago, rode our Harley's (which might have caused them to assume we were hulligans). We were $20 short in our change, tried to rectify the discrepancy and were asked to leave the restaurant because we were stealing from them. If that were in fact the case, we wouldn't have given the waitress the $23 tip. I manage a $18 M budget, and you accuse us of stealing. We will never come back to your establishment if this is how you treat your guests. NO THANK YOU MANAGER DAVE. And to all Harley riders, stay away, they think we are thief's. more

RIBS!!! 7/19/2007

Just a year ago, an old friend took me to his high school's homecoming. We arrive at Famous Dave's to meet 4 or 5 other couples. The dress i wore we much different from the other girls present. They each wore a dark, half length, small, easy to fit in, dress. While I had spent lots of time and energy to look as adorable and grown up as I could. I wore a long dark skirt with a tight corset. I ordered my full raque of ribs dripped with bbq sause. They were so tender, juicy, and messy. I was enjoying my face in my meal. I look, with my mouth full of meat, down my table and noted that all the girls, including some boys, ordered a very large salad, later, which they could not finish. more

Typical chain lookin restaurant with some goot ribs!!!! 6/6/2007

I'm always up for some good food and willing to travel the distance. I decided to go to this FAMOUS DAVE'S, it's a clean restaurant with the typical chain look. Prompt seating and service was excellent!! Huge selection of food from fish, appettizer's, sausage, chicken, ribs, sandwiches, etc. I received my food quickly which was RIBS! Since I heard so much bout dem ribz I was just tempted on trying them!!! They had a great taste, great sauce! The only major complaint was they were quite costly for the amount provided. The prices are what you would typically see in TGIF, Tony Roma's, etc. For a great example check out Sonny Bryan's, Jim Neely's Interstate BBQ, Arthur Bryant's. A all located in other states and world famous for BBQ. Pros: Prompt seating, parking, service Cons: COST more

No Coke so not highly recommended 4/1/2007

All of the food is GREAT and extremely enjoyable Q!! The ONLY negative (and THIS is a HUGE negative) is that they have Pepsi products and NO COKE (if restaurants want to have Pepsi they should also have ""the real thing"" which is Coke!)! Because of this, instead of being able to dine there and enjoy it, I'm forced to usually get takeout and enjoy my coke with it at home! I've never attempted to take my OWN Coke into Famous Dave's, however, which is a possibility. That's why my rating here is RECOMMENDED instead of HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Pros: Great barbecue! Great food selection! Cons: No Coke (only Pepsi) so ""thumbs down""!! more

Amazing BBQ in SLC 3/21/2007

Before coming to Utah, I thought that the best BBQ I had tried was the Salt Lick in Austin,TX, but now that I have tried Famous Daves, I don't regret moving to Utah from Texas, as I can still enjoy great BBQ. Pros: Excellent BBQ more

Mediocre at Best 1/21/2007

I'm from Chicago and love great ribs! The ribs at Famous Dave's were mediocre at best. We're baby back rib fans because they are so tender and moist-Famous Dave's doesn't even offer them! The ""charred"" flavor of the ribs tasted burned to me. We won't be back. Pros: Ambience ok in a rustic way Cons: Food more

Good sauce adn just average ribs 6/18/2006

The ribs are excellent. The value is very good as well. You get a lot of food for the money. The atmosphere is also very good. more

Variety 8/2/2004

Variety is the spice of life!! I really like the fact that they have many BBQ sauces on the table if one should so desire a different flavor than the ""perfect"" way FD's it come to your plate. I enjoyed the food as is. I have been to other places that seem to think that to put BBQ sauce on ""boiled"" meat makes it BBQ. The flavor of FD's meat along with the tenderness indicates they cook their meat on a grill quite a long time for a true BBQ flavor. I had the ribs. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, both were good. The music was classic rock which is a step up from the ""country"": music played in other places in the valley. Pros: resonably priced, friendly server more

MEAT LOVER 7/13/2004

YUM YUM YUMMY RIBS AND RIB TIPS. AND THE CORN BREAD IS THE BEST CORN BREAD I HAVE EVER TRIED, BUT I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THE CHICKEN IT'S NOT THE BEST. THE PORK AND BEANS AND DRUNKIN APPLES ARE VERY FLAVORABLE. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS. Pros: RIBS, RIB TIPS, CORN BREAD more

NOT the Best BBQ in Layton 7/21/2003

OK so this chain of 132 restaurants is better than Tony Roma's, so what. The ribs are good, but if you want the best in Utah go to Q4U (West Valley). The sides from Famous Dave's are pitiful. Tony Roma has far better tasting beans. The corn is from last year. And what is that apple thing? The best side is the cole slaw. The sampler plate served on a garbage can lid is cute, it adds to the country/western atmosphere. Pros: brisket, ambiance, parking Cons: sides more

Go Dave! 7/8/2003

I had the brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was tender and perfect for slathering in Dave's great assortment of sauces. I like the sweet/hot sauce myself. The pulled pork was tender like always. Very nice! The meal was served with cornbread, lodge potatoes, and beans. All were great. Try some of the Georgia BBQ sauce on your lodge potatoes. I have been very pleased with Dave's every time I have been there. It is one place I love to take out of town guests. Our server was prompt and attentive. Pros: brisket, pulled pork, hearty portions Cons: prices a bit high more

GOOD BBQ OVERALL!!!!!!!!!! 7/2/2003

The food is good overall. The beef brisket was the best in my opinion. It had a really good smoke flavor. The chopped pork was great and moist but the ribs was a dissapointment (small/not much meat). They put way too much sauce on them and was slightly dry and burnt. The sauce totally covered up the taste of the meat. So, order your ribs ""naked"". The sauce is very good though. I'm sure they are good but probably had a bad visit. The rest of the meal was good overall. The beans and ""lodge potatoes"" were great. The potatoes had a great taste to them even though they are not seasoned. It must be the lard they use to give it that great taste. The service and atmosphere was also great. Pros: Good Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Burnt/Dry Ribs more

Something Fishy Here 6/6/2003

Famous Daves has something besides barbeque, Fish! They have several fish related items on the menu that you would expect of a North Woods Eatery. I highly recommend the Catfish Fingers! Pros: Service, Taste, Variety Cons: Music Volume too loud more

Great Food 4/23/2003

Quite simply the best BBQ I've had. Waiters & waitresses are courteous and always at the ready. Pros: Good Parking, Not Pricey more
