Upon the recommendation of friends, we dined at Fabio's on a Friday evening. The restaurant was packed, which we took as a good sign. Unfortunately, there appeared to be only on...

Try this place 6/14/2003

This is honestly one of the most underrated restaurants around. The food is wonderful. We tried the stuffed veil chop as well as the salmon and the wine Fabio suggested. Everything was exceptional. Fabio even walked me to my car with an umbrella since it was raining. Later that night we enjoyed some wonderful cheesecake that we took home with us. This place is definitely one to try and the great part is that it was not crowded. On a Friday evening we were one of three tables there and the waiters were attentive but not overly attentive. Overall it was an awesome experience and we will be returning. We loved the fact that the tip was added in and Fabio did cross out the tip line on our receipt so that we were sure. Pros: Great wine, Great food, attentive staff Cons: no parking more

a truly unappreciated restaurant 5/14/2003

The food was some of the best I've ever had. The stuffed chicken won out as our choice after careful deliberation on the red snapper, shrimp, or lamb specials. We enjoyed a fabulous Chilean Merlot suggested by the waiter and ended with one of the best Tiramasu's my wife has ever had. Another bright spot was the large, clean restrooms. The restaurant is quite small; that is my only concern regarding large groups. We definitely expect to return in the future. Pros: Food, Location, Bar Cons: Price of specials more

great italian find!! 4/20/2003

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food at this small italian restaurant! We got the Red Snapper w/lemon butter sauce and lump crab meat, and the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with lump crab.. both were excellent! Parking is hard to find though.. and also they automatically add 20% tip to your bill. Fabio was a great host! Pros: great food!!, great service Cons: added 20% tip more

Deliziosa!! 4/17/2003

Where are the patrons? This is a wonderful Sicilian restaurant with attentive, personal service. Salad is the best I've had in an Italian restaurant along with the crusty homemade bread. Grilled shrimp are huge and garlicky. Fabio himself made our meal a relaxing enjoyable experience. We're going back soon. Pros: Inner City, Great food Cons: No parking more

Good food, BAD SERVICE 2/14/2003

The place was very cute and the atmosphere quite inviting, but the service and value for cost ruined it all. We were asked to order our entree's before we ordered our first drink, the salads were forgotten, and therefore brought after the meal, just before desert, and we were constantly out of water and wine. Had tehre been a better waitstaff, I think we'd return, but at this point, we shall not be returning. Pros: quality of food, atmosphere Cons: service, price, quantity of food more

Absolutely Fabioso! 1/18/2003

When was the last time you went to a fine dining establishment and the owner was the valet, host, waiter, sommelier, and cashier? After spending years patronizing restaurants we found this restaurant to be quite unique in comparison. The atmosphere is very quaint, and the ""hands on"" owner works hard to ensure your dining experience is one to remember. We highly recomment giving it a try but be patient. Pros: personal service, authentic dishes Cons: little parking more

Great Food, but Caution 12/23/2002

The red snapper special was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is nice. Be sure to get there early since there are only 6 parking spaces. Good personal service...Mr. Fabio's takes your order. We were impressed; however, be ware of the ticket. We only had a party of 2 and a 20% tip was automatically added onto the ticket without any notice. Pros: Good Food Cons: Tip added on more

A best kept secret 12/11/2002

This is a very high quality restaurant. Took my entire family there. They jokingly doubted my recommendation but after trying it they were really impressed. Fabio suggested his specials. The Red Snapper was excellent, and the Veal chop was to die for. The only thing that was less than top notch (although not bad) was the Tirramisu for dessert. Did not have quite enough flavor for me. The cheesecake was much better. This was a quiet restaurant but tha twas almost the charm of the place. Definitely recommended. more

Authentic and Quiet 8/8/2002

Dropped in on a Tuesday at nine. Only three tables occupied. Food and service authentically Italian--I've spent months eating in Italy, so I think I'm qualified. Recommended wine quite good and inexpensive ($25). A delightful uncrowded place to linger. Pros: moderate, attentive service, quiet Cons: bad parking more

""Rainy night refuge"" 7/19/2002

Heavy rain kept apparently most Houtonians home one Saturday night when my wife and I dropped in on an empty Fabio's. Fabio explained that he'd had a number of weather-related cancellations, which left the restaurant to the two of us, plus Fabio and his crew. We left the food and wine choices to him, and he filled our wine glasses with an excellent chianti. He suggested snapper for my wife, and I had the veal chop. Dessert was tiramisu. Fresh, well-prepared, high-quality food and an excellent dining experience. Can't wait to return to bring friends. Probably next time, we'll need a reservation! Pros: Dishes made to order, Good wine list, Excellent service more
