Spectacular Place for Anything to do with Hair 4/16/2008

I used to spend loads of time and money going to the most famous hair salons in the city...one place for the cut, another or the color, and yet another for the styling. Then a few months ago I stumbled into Extravaganza (which I'm still convinced was a gift from the gods). Now I swear by it. Not only are they absolutely incredible in anything and everything related to hair, every time I walk in the salon I feel like I'm visiting family (the ones I love...not the ones that drive me crazy). On top of it, I'm spending far less money than I was before, and getting a far better look. I recommend this place to everyone! Pros: Ambience, service, extremely talented, great value for your money more

Relaxed atmosphere...fabulous cuts and color! 4/15/2008

I went to Extravaganza for the first time last week on a recommendation by my friend...and it was great! It is a small salon, so i was a little skeptical when i first walked in, but this is definitely a case where size does not matter. Peter, the owner, is amazing. I am really relaxed about my hair and asked him what he thought a good style would be for me. His suggestion sounded good so i told him to go for it. Well it came out so much better than expected. Easy to manage, but looks like a trendy cut. I also got some very subtle highlights put in to get me ready for summer. The rest of the staff was super fun and all have a nice relationship with each other which made me feel comfortable immediately. The best part besides the fact that one of the girls gave me some watermelon while i was waiting for my highlights to be done is it is really affordable! more

Great hair styling, nice people 4/14/2008

Peter at Extravaganza is both personable and gives great haircuts. As a guy, I don't want to go to some frou-frou ultra-chic hair salon, but I still want to look my best. At Extravaganza I always get a stylish haircut every time I visit, and unlike other places I've been to, it looks good immediately -- I don't have that "just got a haircut" look that you get elsewhere. Extravaganza is a pleasant salon, with nice people, and they don't charge exorbitant prices. I would highly recommend it! more

I have had my hair cut and highlighted for four years by Peter. He started at another salon, and gained such a following that he was able to open his own salon! Rosie is amazing! 4/5/2008

I went to see Rosie after another salon had given me crazy awful highlights (blonde chunky streaks on my Asian hair). I explained my concerns to Rosie and she listened and gave me multiple options (including the pricing - no hidden costs here!). She was really great about explaining what she was doing while she was doing it, giving me great tips and insights on my hair. When she was finished I had amazing natural highlights and had erased any sign of the awful job that was done before. It was completely reasonably priced and I would definitely come back. At age 7 when my mom agreed to no longer have my sister's and my hair cut like one of the Beatles, it took me almost 30 years before I would let anyone else cut or color my hair. SInce then only 5 professionals have touched it and each time I would get anxious about whether they would cut too much or color it right... that is until I moved to NY and found Extravaganza. These guys know what they're doing, know what will look best on you and put you at ease right away, even offering coffee and wine (and on a special occasion, dancing too). Penny not only remembers everything about your styling preferences but everything you said in your conversations from month to month. Peter is a delight too! Great service 3/31/2008

Like most of the reviewers I too tried this salon based on the reviews of others.I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the reviews were accurate. From the moment you walk in, everyone is very welcoming and attentive. Peter styled my hair and I was extremely happy with the results. He seemed very professional and talented at what he does. Not only that, it started to rain while I was there and Peter offered me an umbrella. In addition, I was also pleased that the price of a haircut was $40. I highly recommend this salon to others looking for a great cutat a great price in the city. more

ROSIE IS A MAGICIAN!!! 3/30/2008

After reading all the reviews I decided to give the salon a try. I was still a bit sceptic, so I didn't make any appointement and thought I will go and check it out. In the worst scenario I would just leave. But as soon as I crossed the door I felt like I was in the right place. Peter - I think the owner-is very nice guy and he knows how to make you feel like a special client. He introduced me to Rosie, my hairstylist, and the ride began... I told Rosie all my concerns about my hair. They were very weak and breaking very easily. That was the effect of my last highlights which I did about 6 months ago. Since then I was afraid to go to any salon, because of the fear that I might turn into a yellow canary or simply bald ;) Rosie, after listening to the whole story told me to sit, relax and assured me that she will make me look beautiful. Peter was also sensitive to my needs, and proposed a special treatment after coloring my hair. How everything ended? I look great and can say it was worth to wait so long to find my new favorite salon!!! I highly recommend it!!! Pros: good service, friendly people, competent staff more

Judith--Color Goddess Extraordinaire 3/27/2008

I have been going to Judith for 7 years. I follow her wherever she goes because she is just that good. Extravaganza is the best environment fit I have ever seen for her. Judith is fun, energetic, talented, and has more personality than anyone I've ever met. I usually just give her carte blanche with my hair, and I am always thrilled with the result. When I do have something in mind, she gives it to me, without making me look like I'm trying to hard to be a clone of someone. Judith is, as the name of the post says, the goddess of color. As long as you are honest with her as far as what's been done to your hair in the past, she will give you results that people ask about. She has a knack for mixing color in a way that looks natural, and yet "supernatural" at the same time. Obviously, I can't say enough about Judith and Extravaganza. I'm hooked, what can I say? more

Extravaganza Hair Salon is on of the best on the upper east side. If your looking for GREAT SERVICE & GREAT HAIR ARTISTRY this is the place to make an appointment. I recomend you go and see Judith who is a High Fashion Hair Sylist and see if she can fit you on her tight schd. Everytime I go to Extravaganza I leave the place Very Happy to the point that I can't stop looking on the mirrors....sounds pathetic but its true. Excellent Hair Cut at a Good Price 2/1/2008

I've been to salons and paid $200 for a hair cut and not liked them any better than the one's Peter gives me for a fraction of the price (~$40). In fact, I would say his cuts are better. The salon is not fancy, but its clean and nicely decorated and the staff is always nice (i.e. can I take your coat, would you like something to drink). I've recommended Peter to friends and they have continued to go back to him. If your looking for a good cut at a reasonable price go to Peter. more

My hair bodyguard 1/26/2008

I have been messing with my hair since I've been 14 years old and I have never been 100% satisfied until I tried Extravaganza. I had the pleasure of getting Pinny and I vow to never switch..her wash and dry last me for a week. I have been to other so called "top salons" and they have always givin me all these excuses as to why my color does not come out correct (I have natural red tones, I have to many colors in my hair, excuses, excuses) but not at this salon the color I want is the color I get...and the best part is that the prices are extremely affordable...... Everyone is so nice here and I am absolutely satisfied everytime..... Pros: price, service Cons: none more

Simply Amazing 1/23/2008

For some odd reason my review didn't go through, so I will try to do this one justice. From the second I walked in (after running madly 15 blocks to make the appointment, I was instantly welcomed and relaxed and offered tea), to the end result (including whipping out the checkbook) I was totally impressed. The staff is really personable. Not only was my color phenomenal, Peter transformed my hair from boring and long to a hot, sculpted, edgy bob. Gotta say, best cut I've gotten here in the city. I was expecting to not be able to afford to eat for weeks after seeing the result, but when it came to ring up I was pleasantly shocked. When Peter saw my reaction he said, "Its not about the price." Truly Great, I'll be going back for sure!!!! more

Best prices on the UES 1/18/2008

I'm a college student and as we all know students are on a budget. I came across Extravaganza on the way home from school and noticed the $30 walk-in special (wash&blow) and thought this was too good to be true. Definitely wasn't! The hairstylists that have done my hair (Judith, Rosie and Peter, the owner) are all very friendly and give the salon a fun atmosphere. The fact that the owner is really involved in his salon shows the dedication he has in customer service. I love this salon, and have gone back numerous times. The prices, compared to places like Dramatics and Supercuts (which charge for service and the amt. of hair your have) are all very reasonable and well deserved considering the magic these people do with hair. if you don't believe me, check it out for yourself, you won't be disappointed =) more

They are EXTREMELY friendly here, make you feel so welcomed into their salon, (Especially Peter, the owner). Their prices are extremely reasonable ($30 for wash & blowdry) and they do a great job, really understanding what you like and letting you know what suits you best! Hard to get what you want 12/9/2007

I came here based on the good reviews on citysearch, but I was very disappointed. The service was very poor and most of the people were very rude. Also don't look at the listed prices because you will not pay what is on that price list. I was estimating about 125 for my cut and color, but it was $240. I wouldn't mind if the result was positive but it was the worst cut I have ever had. I wish I had looked at other places and I will not go back. My advice is make sure your stylist knows what you want. Pros: Location, good atmosphere Cons: price, service more

Great haircut. Judith listens and gives good advice of what kind of haircut will look on you. I went for a trim but she reshape my hair completely. I came out with a kick on my hot trim. Judith is friendly and knowledgeable. Very convenient hours and great price in UES for such good service! Will go back again. Pros: Price, skills, friendly staff, hours Cons: N/A more

the best Japanese hair straightining 11/29/2007

I was doing to many different chemical hair straightening to my hair by to many stylist,but this time my stylist was Rosie she did an amazing Japanese hair straightening to my hair , my hair was so curly and frizzy ,now it is smooth straight and soft,. and not only that she was very nice and honest with me, I felt very comfortable in the salon, a great atmosphere. i really recommend Rosie for anybody Whos looking for a Japanese straighting specialist. P.S. in general this salon is the best in all services!!! Pros: they are very professional with what they do. more
