Best

I started coming to this salon about six months ago, on a recommendation from a friend. I'm usually very careful with new salons because I have definitely had some bad experiences...

Worst

I went to get my hair highlighted and cut as a special treat for myself about a month ago and walked out spending almost $700, and not by choice. When I called to make my appt.,...

Thank You Eva 6/29/2007

I recently moved out of state after being a client at Eva Scrivo Salon for 4 years. I often fondly think about the salon, it is one of the things about NY that I miss most. There simply aren't any salons like this one anywhere else, and I have sadly realized this ten times over since having moved. I lived only a couple blocks away, and the salon had become like my home away from home. It was not only a place where I knew that I'd get the most beautiful hair and wonderful facials, but where I felt that everyone from the receptionist and assistant to Eva herself, really cared about me and my experience there. If I was having a bad day, I'd forget about my problems while at the salon and would feel and look like a new person upon leaving. I really did not expect to find a place quite like this one in my new home town (even though I'm still in a fairly cosmopolitan place), but I did not fully appreciate how spoiled I had become because it's been one disappointment after another since then. Even though Eva was kind enough to give me my color formula, my highlights have not been the same since having it done in new salons. I guess there's more to it than just chemistry. I have actually resisted getting my haircut for six months now, as that is one thing that I won't let anyone else do! I'll be coming back to NY soon just for my cut (and hopefully to get my color back to where it was). Maybe I'll also visit some friends while there :) Thank you Eva for everything. I miss you and everyone at your salon, and I can't wait to see you in about a month! Pros: The best cut, color, facials and service more

A small suggestion for prospective clients 4/27/2007

I love eva scrivo salon and I high recommend this place, but I was a little disappointed during my 4th visit. My hairstylist(s) usually spend a lot of time listening to what I want, but this time, she was busy with other clients and didn't spend much on my hair cut. My bangs were cut wrong, and when I told her that that wasnt what I wanted, she made a face and said, the way I wanted my bangs wouldnt work with the hairstyle. It was partially my fault for letting her know at the end, but I wish she could have explained it nicer. I dont want to disclose my hairstylist's name because she is an amazing hair stylist, and I have nothing against her...but a little suggestion for those who are deciding whether to go to this salon: bring a picture or two to show what exactly you want. Regardless of my experience during the 4th visit, I would still go back there :) Pros: Many many brillian stylists Cons: Too busy to care? more

Tres chic and best staffed salon-ANTONIO GONZALES is a creative genius and ALLY-best esthetician!!! 4/25/2007

Hands down best salon i've ever been to... i work in fashion and am constantly being judged by my appearance. i have never received as many compliments on my hair EVER! Antonio can take me from blonde to red to black and back again... he's amazing. i've referred several friends who all agree he is the most amazingly talented stylist!! I can't say enough good things about him personally and professionally. The staff is amazing from Dayna at the desk to Eva herself. Ally is an incredible esthetician and truly is one of the most soathing individuals i've met (she could shed years of stress away in a single treatment)! I would highly recommend for any service! more

Very Attentive 4/13/2007

I had a lovely experience at Eva Scrivo Salon. The staff is very attentive and Eva, who cut my hair, is extremely professional. She cares that her salon is run properly and that her customers are satisfied with their service . . . . a rarity in a city that often thinks of the phrase "customer satisfaction" as a level of service that only VIPs are entitled to receive. Pros: Attentive staff, easy to schedule an appointment more

Love this salon! 4/9/2007

I've lived in the West Village for years and have gone uptown for my hair until somewhat recently discovering Eva Scrivo Salon. I've never been so happy with my cut and color, and compared to what I was paying uptown, the prices here are actually very reasonable for a salon of this caliber. I especially love that blowouts are included with every color. I used to pay an additional $60 or more for the blowout after spending $400+ for highlights, or leave with wet hair, not really seeing how the color came out until I got home. Including a blowout in the price of color is a wonderful touch of customer service, and something that every salon should do! It's not surprising that customer service at Eva Scrivo is fantastic, very nice and friendly staff who try very hard to accomodate your schedule and take wonderful care of you at the salon. So glad that this level of work and service has been brought to the West Village! Pros: quality of work, customer service, blowouts included with color Cons: took me so long to discover more

Not So Hot 4/4/2007

Recently, I had my hair highlighted at this salon for the first time, however, I get my hair blown-out here. I was always happy with their work. But with the highlights, I was disappointed with the result. I was told that the "bailaige" highlights were superior to the regular tinfoil highlights, and decided to have that done. Two weeks later, the color seemed to fade, and I had dark roots. I never had that issue before with highlights over the years. So, $320 bucks later (not including the tip) and 2 weeks later, I had massive roots. On the upside, everyone at the salon is very nice and friendly- I must stress this. I'd go back for blowouts even though I had a lousy experience with hair-color. Pros: Nice staff, extensive product line, good location. more

Antonio Knows Blondes 2/8/2007

I've been a blonde for several years, but I've never had color like the color Antonio's given me. He's amazing! I recently moved from New York to Atlanta, and haven't been able to find a stylist able to work with my natural hair and skin color. I heard Antonio's beautiful voice on the Martha Stewart Living radio show he does with Eva Scrivo, and decided a trip back to New York was in order -- it was a splurge, but so worth it! I've made three trips since, and have recommended him to all my girlfriends. Pros: Antonio and Eva Cons: It's a long way from Atlanta more

Great place; I highly recommend it! 12/31/2006

I had a wonderful experience at Eva Scrivo Salon. My husband set up my appointment as a gift and I was very pleasantly surprised. Mira fixed my awful color. She changed my multi-color mess into a wonderful, warm brown. Like magic. Kaz gave me a great cut and thinned out my super thick, unruly curls so that I could manage them myself. All in all it was a great experience. The entire staff was super helpful and friendly, none of the upity receptionists you find at some salons. No sales pressure to buy products or additional services. Overall, happy, happy, happy! Pros: Service Cons: I live out of state more

Donna Donna Donna! 11/3/2006

After four awesome cuts and color by Donna I have never recieved so many compliments. I have been approached on the street about my cut and always sing the praises of Donna and the entire salon. I have never felt sales pressure and the folks at the front desk are always accomdating to my hectic schedule. Eva Scrivo Salon gives every customer the NY style they crave without the NY attitude that other high end salons serve. On a side note their coffee is fantastic. Pros: Great Service, Awesome Cuts / Color, Interest in my clients look their best more

Face Magic - With Alli Kaufman 10/3/2006

When I started seeing Alli at Eva Scrivo, despite a healthy diet and using very expensive products from the Wholefoods store, my skin was so oily or dry in some areas, there were scales around the bridge of my nose. Alli cautioned me that it might take quite a while to address this condition. Six weeks after my first facial and using products she recommended, however, it was obvious that I was on my way to having beautiful skin again. People consistently underestimate my age by at least 10 years, a mistake I welcome more and more! Alli is very rare in an industry known for superficiality. Alli's expertise in skin care is matched by her sincere desire for the overall well-being of her clients. A top-notch service and a great business. Pros: Excellent Service, Best Products, Great Staff more

Great all around 9/26/2006

This place really has it down, all the things you would expect from a top tier salon, and one thing that you wouldn't; there is no attitude. I love Donna, but it looks like everyone is an ace there, and they never pressure you into things you don't want. Worth the money because you are bound to get something you like (and heck, you can earn money faster than you can grow out a bad cut!). Pros: True stylists who pay individual attention to your look and great atmosphere Cons: It isn't free. more

Look No Further! 9/11/2006

I've been to the salon for a cut and color on two separate occassions and am officially an Eva Scrivo Salon devotee, forever. Alyson is a total sweetheart and nothing short of a genius with color - her highlights are a work of art. She won't make a move without talking to you at length, listens to your ideas and shares her opinion on what will be most appealing. Kaz is the most meticulous stylist I've ever visited for a cut - he spends more time on finish work than most stylists spend on a whole cut. His cuts have made my hair waaay more stylish than before AND easier to style every day - every girl's dream. New York has an overwhelming number of good salons to choose from - but this one is beyond compare. Seriously, book with Alyson and Kaz and you'll have the hair of your dreams! Pros: Comfortable salon, top-notch color and cuts more

Alyson ROCKS!!! 8/3/2006

I walked into the salon with the most HIDEOUS Ronald McDonald colored hair. But after a few hours in the care of Alyson I walked out with gorgeous auburn tresses - I haven't been to see anyone else since and wouldn't dream of letting anyone else touch my hair - Alyson does an amazing job with cut and color and is one the sweetest people I know - I love the staff and always leave feeling so pampered. more

Hard sell on the products 7/26/2006

Bad experience. The colorist took the gorgeous blonde color I had and made it a hideous beige shade. And then the stylist hacked off my fine hair with a razor, ignoring my pleas to use a scissor instead, making the edges all rough and choppy. NOT the look I asked for. At all. And then, the icing on the cake, she spent about 5 minutes too long trying to get me to purchase hair products which I told her repeatedly that I did not need. This was a grave mistake, Eva Scrivo is a BAD BAD salon. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL!!!! more

Love JD 7/5/2006

JD is great. I went to Eva Scrivo b/c a friend recommended it. I was lucky enough to get JD as my stylist. He really took the time to talk to me before the haircut, and listen to my preferences and issues. He came up with some great suggestions and was really sensitive to my concerns. I've been going to him for almost a year now and am always happy leaving the salon. JD is always a pleasure, and everyone at the salon is very friendly and nice - no attitude there. more

JD Bowers is Fantastic 6/27/2006

Serendipity brought me to JD Bowerss plush chair. For years, I have had limp, straight hair that every stylist cut the same way. No layers, angle from the chin down. When I came to Eva Scrivo, before anyone even washed my hair, JD and I discussed my lifestyle, how long I take to do my hair in the mornings, how I style it. Afterward, he took 45 minutes (on a Saturday evening!) to show me different ways that I can style it and how to blowdry it. In addition to having the best hair cut I had ever had, I was asked out by multiple guys that night. The second time I went to JD to get my hair cut, I gave him full reign to do whatever he wanted. Now this is the best hair cut I have EVER had! The way he cut it accentuates my faces best features. I like it so much and still get so many compliments, that four weeks later, I feel compelled to write this review. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND JD- after one session in his chair, I have no doubt that you will have the steadfast allegiance to him that I do. Cons: None more

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! 6/22/2006

Kaz came highly recommended to me by a very trusted stylest and I absolutely fell in LOVE!! He did an AMAZING job, and was very friendly. Great service, atmosphere and AWESOME cut :) GO SEE KAZ...he's my new best friend!!! Pros: gorgeous fun salon, excellent work and friendly employees Cons: nada more

If you want bangs/fringe go to Orlo. 6/20/2006

I have been going to Eva Scrivo for two years spending two hundred upwards for cuts each time. About six months ago one of my cuts involved bangs and it's been downhill since. So, for my new cut, Orlo is much better service, they do alot more to help you maintain between cuts. At Eva Scrivo you can play a game of chicken with your stylist between cuts: For fringe trims you can't book in advance, you have to call between 9 and 10 in the morning to find out the schedule of your stylist and have the receptionist gingerly ask him/her if they will take you. Oh and they don't do it on weekends. I guess this might be ok if you don't have a job or anything else to do. Or maybe if you haven't already shelled out $200 plus tax and tip to them for a cut. Well I have a job and better things to do than play games with my stylist (will he/she take me? yes? no?) This has not worked out in may favor so many times that I have had to resort to paying another salon to have my fringe maintained. A while back (when still at E.S.) my bangs had really taken over my face and I needed help, I was traveling for work and needed to fix it immediately. So I called to find out if they or Kaz (my stylist) apparently he had two 15 mins openings on Sat. but I had to call again in the morning. Saturday morning at nine I was informed again no exeptions to the bangs on weekends rule. And that is when they lost me, a loyal client of two years who has done nothing but tout their salon to friends and strangers on the street. I carried Donna and Kaz's business cards in my bag to hand out if opportunity strikes. I have literally shelled out thousands of dollars in services and products and I was resorted to a beggar asking for scraps from the eva scrivo table. Well I was desperate because then I called Orlo. They were ready to take me that evening once I had made an appointment for a trim a few weeks later. End of story. Pros: Expensive cuts Cons: Not much service for that expensive cut more

Donna is great! 6/9/2006

Donna has always given me a great cut (and fun conversation). Moving to Seattle was super exciting for me, but I was so sad that I had to leave Donna after spending years and lots of cash trying to find a great stylist. After trying a few different people out in Seattle, I decided I just needed to fly back and visit Donna - it's worth it! more

JD's the man 5/10/2006

I absolutely love this salon. I've been having my hair cut by JD for about a year and he's wonderful. He really listens to what you want and he takes the time to consider your ideas on your cut. I highly recommend him. more
