First of all it is a law that ALL pets must be vaccinated for rabies in the state of Ohio. If a clinic does not accept your pet for this reason it is because they can be sued if the animal bites either the staff, any of the other customers, or another pet. If you think because your animal has always been indoors for its' entire and won't get sick you should not own pets. For example if have a rat or bat are in your home that has rabies it WILL attack your pet and make them infected with rabies. Also Feline Leukemia is airborne. Meaning if you leave your windows open and a breeze or air flow is created than your cat is susceptible to it. Many diseases are at vets office because they always have sick animals in there. If your pet is NOT vaccinated they are more likely to become sick from your negligence as an owner rather than it being the vets fault. more

We just left Euclid Veterinary Hospital. We took our cat Franz in after seeing an ad in the Plain Dealer offering Free Dental Exams. I knew there'd be some catch, or they'd try to upsell me to a dental cleaning, but I thought that would be expected and was ready for it. \r However, as soon as we got there, the nice receptionist was very concerned that Franz wasn't up-to-date on his rabies shot. He did get a rabies vaccine as a kitten, but it has 'expired'. However, he is a sweet, indoor cat, and this has never been an issue before, at either of the 2 other veterinary offices he has visited. \r The receptionist checked in with the vet to see if he would even see Franz without us paying the $26 fee for the rabies shot. After much discussion, the receptionist came back and said he would not see Franz. \r What I don't understand is -- why doesn't the ad mention that you have to bring proof that your cat is up-to-date on his rabies shot? and they could have mentioned it when we called in before we came... Also, if they're so concerned about rabies, why aren't they (the vet and workers) vaccinated against it? \r It felt like a rip-off. We took Franz home without any dental exam. We will take him to his normal veterinarian for the dental exam. more

wow so cheap.. 4 vets.. my new vet for sure.. i will go now anytime my 3 dogs have a problem .. if you have money to burn go somewhere else... your gonna pay for that new office and bedside manner .. these guys are just as good as them.. more

New management, yes this place is old, and vet doesnt seem to know that much, give it time its reasonable prices, dr stern was a great vet and i went to him for years. the place is old what do you expect if you dont like it there then dont go.I think the new vet is great and prices are great. hes very nice man and some old employees are still there too! =) more

This has reopened, under new mgmt. I brought my 11 year old cat here last week after I discovered that he had ingested plastic Easter grass. He was not behaving like himself, refusing food and water, and had terrible diarrhea. I was panicked and very upset, and needed to see a vet quickly. When I got there, I was greeted by a friendly vet tech. The waiting area appeared to be clean, but the odor of animals was rather unpleasant. Everything just looked old and worn out, a bad first impression. Once inside the exam room, I explained the situation to the vet. He did not do a thorough assessment in my opinion. He barely asked me any questions, although he did attempt to comfort me when he saw how emotional I was. His staff took my cat for an x-ray. He stated he was unable to see any obstruction in my cat's bowels, but he stated ""you have another problem"". He pointed to the area surrounding my cat's bowels on the x-ray and stated that it was full of excessive fluid and that he likely had peritonitis. I had done research before the visit, and read that this condition can be the result of a bowel obstruction, and that it is not good. But he was saying things like ""kidney failure, heart disease, liver failure"". I replied ""but he ate easter grass, and he was fine 2 days ago"". Then he stated that the only way to know for sure is to ""open him up"" and do exploratory surgery in his bowels, but that the peritonitis had a poor prognosis (fatal) and isn't likely to be fixed. So at this point I am even more upset because I am faced with the idea that I might need to have my cat put down. The vet tech took me and my cat into a second exam room, one that I imagine is where surgeries are performed. This room was filthy! I was horrified! There was dirt on the countertops, the floor, and clutter in general. The worst offender was an old green file cabinet that was completely covered in some sort of white splattered filth, and it was only a couple of feet from the exam table. Just a few more feet from the exam table was a very sick looking cat in a kennel, maybe recovering from surgery. in the exam room? This room appeared to not have been cleaned in a year, no exaggeration. There is no way this would pass an inspection. In this room, the vet tech administered fluids to get my guy hydrated. She was very kind, and answered my questions. At this point I was getting frustrated because I felt like the vet was not communicating with me regarding my options. I told her I did not know what to think, and she suggested that I go home, research peritonitis, and decide for myself whether I believe my cat's symptoms are consistent. She seemed to be skeptical herself, without actually saying so. Furthermore, why am I paying this guy if I need to make the diagnosis myself? That entire night I was disturbed by my experience. I could not shake the nagging feeling that I received sub-par care. The next morning I went back, got my x-ray, and took my cat to Gateway Animal Clinic in Tremont for a second opinion. In contrast to my experience the day before, it was night and day. The vet he saw NO EVIDENCE for peritonitis. He said ""your cat does not have excessive fluid built up around his organs, he is just fat"". He also said there is no evidence for an obstruction either given his improvement (he kept food down overnight) and typical looking bowels. He reassured me that doing surgery at this point is premature. Having such a good experience there helped me to realize how bad it was the day before. To sum it up this vet seemed like a nice man, but not a good vet. The prices are reasonable, but you get what you pay for. The best part of this place was the vet tech I dealt with. She was terrific. more

The first time I went to the Euclid Vet was 2 years ago for my cat. Dr Stern was quick in giving her shots, helping me find a way to give her her medicine, and quickly recognizing when she had been bitten. The office all knew who she was and that felt really personable. So naturally when I bought my dog (a lab) he want to see Dr Stern. Again, everyone quickly became familar with my dog. Sadly, they have closed down and I have to find somewhere else to go. This vet was fairly priced, only charging when something was done (no exam fee). They were friendly and were familar with my animals history's. Also, their hours were so convienent so I wouldn't have to take off work to have my dog/cat seen, I could just walk in no appointment necessary. I will surely miss that place. I am having the worst time trying to find a clinic with the same attributes. more

Ok, now im reading all these reviews and thinking that the saing is true ""you cant please everyone"". I am 25years old\r and i have been taking my animals to dr sterns office ever since i can remember. That man is the reason i got interested in animals. I remember one time my puppy got under a car that was backing out of the driveway and the car ran over his tail and a tiny bit of his butt. Me and my husband rushed him to dr.sterns office and it was closed for dinner,we knocked on the door with our puppy in my arms and one of the ladies( that put up with a lot of crap i might add) came to the door seen what was going on and rushed me and my husband to the back room with him. They took care of our puppy and took x-rays to see how bad it was. They kept telling us hes ok its not that bad, we'll take good care of him. They couldnt put a cast on his butt, and his tail was just fine, turns out his butt was bruised.They kept him one night for observation and gave him something to help him heal.We took our puppy home the next day and a couple days later he was up and around again we thought he was gonna die that day and they made us feel like everything was gonna be ok.They dont do what every other vet does in cuyahoga county they are just there for the animals not the money. When my cat snowball got into his first fight he was really messed up i wanted to take him to the closest vet which was bannifield in petsmart but they wanted 50 dollars just to see him, i took him to euclid from eastlake to dr sterns and he did surgery on my cat and saved his life my snowball needed a drain in his face and lots of antibiotics as well as rest. Dr stern is the reason my cat is still alive today. And doing very well i might add,He only charged us what was nessary and didnt charge us for seeing him. Now if you like the rest of us money is tight, dr sterns office might be small and cramped and there equiptment may not be the newest crap on the market,but they are angels in their own right,ever look at it for their point of view they are in that small office everyday all day deal with hundreds of animals and peoples attitudes so excuse them if they loose their cool like all of us do for every bad experience there is a hundred good ones. So in closing im saying leave them alone nobodys perfect and one cant expect it from anyone,when its our time to die its our time and you cant blame someone for something that happens far after contact,thats like saying"" you pet my dog and a year later he died its your fault"" thats just dumb! I support them and will continue to take my animals to him. keep up the great work you do euclid veterinary hospital!!!!!!!! more

I started taking my animals to Euclid Vet a few years ago, just for normal routine shots and stuff. Last year my 5 year old jack russell all of sudden could not walk, her whole left side of her body was limp. I took her straight to the vet and he just gave me some pills, wouldnt tell me anything, couldnt answer any questions NOTHING!!! Luckly my neighborhood (just moved to a new house) was a vet tech. I asked her immediately and she told me I was crazy for taking her there, that Dr.Sterns is known as DOCTOR DEATH at all the other vetenrinary clinics in the area. She said my dog needed to go to the hospital that she could possibly have something erupting her spinal cord and cutting off all nerves to her side. I took my dog somewhere else, turns out she had spinal STROKE! Not to mention Euclid Vet is flithy, dirty, disgusting, smells, and is by no means sanitary AT ALL! They have all old equipment and Doctor Sterns is like 90 years old and can barely see! I would love to know if the people who work there besides the doctor even went to school to work in a clinic. \r DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE! more

This was the worst vet visit a person could have this vet did not examine the dog at all. Explain the dog had been vommitting a white foam, not eating, trembling and whinning. The vet put a thermometer up the dog's butt and gave her a shot to stop the vommitting. This dog is a 12 year old pekenese. My normal vet at the Gateway Clinic would have check the dog completely. But my husband heard that this vet was cheaper so my dog die about 1 1/2 hrs after seeing this vet. Iwill never advise no one to take a pet here. I am over-whelmed more

I took my dog there to get spayed because it was less expensive than her normal vet. I had never been there before, and had my boyfriend drop her off as I had school. When I went to pick her up she was still groggy which was to be expected, she stunk and was covered in her own pee. The secretaries were not helpful in answering my questions, telling me different things than the vet. I had to take her back 2 days later to get an antibiotic shot, there was dried diarrhea on the floor which the ""nurses"" kept stepping over and would not clean up. When I finally got her in to get her shot the vet acted like he was throwing a dart at a dartboard and stuck it in her, she cried and turned around to which he said ""That is ridiculous, she shouldn't be acting like that"" .. I have had her to our normal vet 2 different times for rounds of shots to which she never cried. Then to top it all off a week later she came down with kennel cough. We will not be back there again..i'm not even taking her back to get her stitches out...I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. Spend the extra money and have it done right. Dr. Stern has been my families vet for the past 34 yrs. I remember when my first dog Maluke got in a fight with a dog and he opened up on a sunday and came in to take care of him and didnt even charge me except for what was needed, a true animal lover and very caring person. Then there was his pup Champ, then sugar who is still around today and almost 15 yrs old, lola,and today he will meet our new addition Leo. Thank- You doesnt express enough my appreciation and admiration for this man. What will I do when he decides to retire...on that note know I say God Bless you Dr. Stern.... Pros: that he truley cares and charges u for what is needed Cons: that sadly he'll retire someday more

My mother and her sister (who is deaf) took in their cat Elvis to be euthanised due to kidney failure about 5 hours ago. Upon arriving at the poorly maintained office, the head veterinarian portrayed no sympathy towards my aunt and mother. \r \r The head veterinarian's age and bitterness was prevalent in the way he ran his office in particularly raising his voice and using foul language in front of my mother about their requests. The assistant showed no better qualities after being bitten by another cat and swearing at the top of his lungs words like ""god damn cat,"" and ""stupid cat,"" in the presence of its owner.\r \r The head vet also broke the euthanising needle inside the cat and showed a lack of professionalism by proclaiming, ""Oh sh*t, I wonder if he got any..."" After this he proceeded to poke the cat in the eye to see if he had died. These tactics may be acceptable ways to end the life of a cat, but anyone who knows what putting an animal down is like knows that's not the environment anyone should be put in.\r \r I strongly discourage anybody to support this veterinary office. His emotional distatchment to the animal brought my mother home in tears. She hasn't had a drink of alcohol in over 5 years and she poured herself a glass of wine when she got home. This sensitive operation should not bring my family back in tears, and I will speak up for them by saying I hope this vet doens't have the power to do this to anybody else ever again. i have never written a review before but i had to for Dr. Sterns, my dog's angel. Dr. Stern has taken care of my families dogs for 50 years, Rex, Rex II, Wolfgang, and now J.B. He is the most wonderful of veterinarians. He always takes to time to talk to you about the dog AND about your life. He loves dogs and horses and every other creature ""great and small"". Someone shoud defintiely do a story about this great man. He trains new vets and loves every dog that comes into his office. His staff seem so happy to just be there to help you. J.B. doesn't like to go to the vet, but when he is sick, Dr. Stern always has a good idea about what is happening, and without a lot of falderall he diagnosis and treats my littlest angel. I could not imagine not having Dr. Stern take care of J.B. i could not imagine not having Dr. Stern to take care of all the pets in Euclid and all the areas around. We all love you, Dr. Stern. If anyone out there needs a caring, knowledgeable and straight talking vet, this is the one. The lobby is always full, the staff smiling, the dogs pulling, tugging, barking, whining, and just being dogs. It feels good just to be there, and that is because Dr. Stern makes it be that way. I have been going to Dr. Stearns for almost 40 years. He is a great man and he loves animals. He is the most dedicated and carrying Vet. you will ever meet. He is and will always be amazing to me...Patty Ritchie\r P.S The negative feed back that Dr. stearns got, I would bet anything was because he told them something they did not like. When I was young and new everything I remember taking my cat there, and a dog got to close and my cat clawed me and got a way. I got a lecture on having control of my pet. I did not like it, but learned alot from it. Years later a harness on my dog and having control of him, saved him from an accident, I don't even like to think about what might of happened. I got my dog from the pound about a year ago and i started going to this clinic. it is the greatest i have ever been to. i travel from mentor to go there and will continue to go there for a very long time. Dr. Sterns is the greatest vet EVER! hes is so personable and is always in a good mood. anything my dog has needed, he has got for her. he takes wonderful care of her and is extremely nice to use. i dont know where i would go to get the same great service. and i always know if i have to take my dog there, Dr. Sterns will be there. i would highly Recommend you go! Pros: Everyone there is so pleasent and they do a great job. Dr. Sterns is so knowledgable about many things Cons: If i had to say one, the place is kinda small... but it only makes it even more homly! more

THIS MAN WORKS FROM 830 AM TO 8 PM.\r THIS HONORABLE MAN NEVER TAKES A DAY OFF. HE IS GENEROUS AND KIND. HE RECOGNIZES \r THE LOVE AND COMPASSION PET OWNERS HAVE FOR THEIR PETS.
