Not Going Back ANNNNNY Time Soon! 3/9/2010

I have eaten at Etcetera Etcetera before, and it was a fine and pleasant experience, nothing that is totally memorable. However last weekend I went to a private party in the upstairs area, and they were charging $11 for a cocktail and in verrrry small print, it said ""$1 for gratuity added in"", and of course no one could see this, so there was a tip bucket there for the bartender to make more money! Then, something strange happened, a stink bomb or pepper spray or something went off, suddenly everyone at the party was coughing, and we all ran downstairs immediately. Eyes were watering, people were hacking up their lungs. It was horrible! Not only did I feel bad for the party's host, but I was incredibly distraught when the manager said he was sorry, he didn't know what happened, and for us to have a nice night. Not good if you ask me, I think he should have offered us a round or drinks or done something to at least compensate us for the horrible experience. He was rude and unforgiving, and I know that I don't plan on going there ever again! Bitter, table for 1! Pros: Food is Alright Cons: Attitude is Ridiculous! more

best sphaghetti in the city 12/11/2009

My friend and I dined at this elegant restaurant before we went to see Finian’s Rainbow at St. James Theatre. I ordered the basil spaghetti with jumbo lump crab meat and my friend ordered risotto. We both loved the foods very much. The texture of the homemade basil spaghetti was great. We will come back again soon! more

nothing special 2/25/2009

the wine menu is very good, but the food is only OK. starters and pastas was fine. Nothing special. The service is unattentive and poorly-timed. Food comes out too fast, and empty glasses sit empty for too long. Interesting, but it needs work. Pros: pastas Cons: staff, service more

Great Food 1/20/2009

We came to this restaurant bc my mother had a 7:00pm show in the area. The service was spot on and the food was terrific. I had the lasagna and it was TERRIFIC. My mother and her friend had the fish which they both enjoyed and my sister had the short ribs which were also very good (although i think that the lasagna was the best dish at the table) Good service, good food, and really convenient to the theater. Definitely reccommend this restaurant. Pros: LASAGNA! and the pino nior! more

fresh quality and excellent presentation 11/18/2008

The food def lives up to its reputation. We ordered the pre-fix menu and it was excellent! I totally recommend it. Fresh quality and excellent presentation. I was disappointed in the dessert. It just wasn't that great. \r Service is impeccable and right on point. The space is romantic and nice however very cramped\r Pros: fresh food',ambiance more

Great Place for Bites Pre-Theatre! 10/18/2007

This is a great place to grab ""Bar Bites"" pre theatre! The price is right and the goat cheese stuffed mushrooms, Italian cheese plate and wine list are fabulous! Pros: Try the ""Bar Bites"" Menu! Cons: Get there early, it gets busy! more

Great food, nice atmosphere, crazy-long wait! 8/16/2007

Went with 2 other ladies on a wednesday night. Made reservations about a week in advance for 6:30. They got there just before 6:30 and we're asked if they had a show to go to, which they said no. I got there about 10 mins. after and they were still waiting. Seriously, they were only seating people who had a show, regardless of when their reservation was for. So we sat and watched people have dinner. Until 7:15 when we were FINALLY seated. I don't recall an apology, but I would think complimentary drinks or an app would have been the appropriate guesture for our troubles waiting in the corner of the restaurant for 45 minutes! Anyway, I had the Prix Fixe with veggie souffle and cheese fondue (very tasty!) and the ricotta ravioli with tomatoes and basil (exceptionally delish!) and sorbet for dessert (average). Friends had salads and appetizer pastat dishes which they said was good, but I didn't taste it. It's a cute restaurant with nice atmosphere and good-priced menu (I think you can make this place moderately priced or expensive). I probably wouldn't come back just based on the wait, because I'm sure there are other restuarants with just as good food in the area that won't keep you waiting because you're not the typical theater-goer, but rather just someone who wants to eat when they make a reservation to! Pros: Tasty food, good beverage attendance, cute/trendy place in good location Cons: Bad attention to reservations!!!!! more

REAL Italian food - midtown Manhattan, theatre district restaurant 2/24/2007

Etcetera Etcetera is a true mid-town, theatre district gem - great not just for REAL Italian food before the theatre, but as a fantastic post-theatre destination as well. Consistently fresh, well prepared dishes...knowledgeable, friendly staff. Both combine to make out-of-towners and regulars, like myself, feel like they are right at home. By the way, you HAVE to try to the outstanding chickpea and potato gnocchi with oxtail ragout. Check it out! more

Not for kids 4/18/2006

Our concierge at the Westin recommended this restaurant as a pre-theatre option over the Easter holiday. He indicated it would work for our family of 4. The atmosphere was modern and sophisticated and we were seated right away; however service soon declined as we were treated like the plague by both the staff and other patrons simply because we had our children with us. Four tables seated after us were waited on and served before us. My two children, ages 10 and 6 were well behaved and very patient, but my husband and I felt we were irritating people simply because we were dining there with our family. It was a shame really. We pride ourselves on our children experiencing new things and knowing how to behave respectfully at special places, but we were not treated well that night. Pros: close to theatre, nice atmosphere Cons: tight seating, curt service more

overall a fine experience. The service was a bit obtrusive, but only as they were truly trying to please. We we seated immediately on a non-busy night. The wine list was decent but not outstanding by the glass. The octupus carpaccio special was beautiful to look at,but lacked a bit of taste. The Speck in the salad appetizer was flavorful and a reaonable portion. All the sizes were not huge, but clearly enough. The ravioli with lamb, ammaretto and raisons among other things was the standout at the table, an unusual taste, but very good. I was happy I went and so were our friends, worth a special trip across town, plus/minus Pros: gracious service, portions, price Cons: food uneven more

A Great Find! 8/7/2005

We first found the restaurant by accident and just had drinks, but really fell in love with the atmosphere, service, and location. We've been back numerous times and enjoy it every time. more

Service! Service! Service! 7/8/2005

An extremely enjoyable evening. Our party of four was warmly and promptly welcomed by Brian and the waiting staff went above and beyond normal expectations to ensure a plesant experience without being fussy. I will absolutely visit this restaurant again on my next trip. more

Wonderful Dining Experience 5/13/2005

I would definitely recommend this restaurant. My sister and I took my mother there for an early dinner on Mother's Day after the theatre. I had no expectations whatsoever. We all three loved it. Very cool yet warm ambience, great food (hangar steak and goat especially, but the prix-fixe chicken was also excellent, as were the artichoke appetizer and lentil soup), and charming, attentive service. more

Etcetera Etcetera is Fantastic 4/4/2005

I had my second dining experience at Etcetera Etcetera this past weekend. Having discovered this gem earlier this year, I was looking foward to a return visit. This place has definitely found its groove and is a bright sexy addition to the area. The staff [Joe, Jeff, Isabella and Brian] is awesome and fun to be around. The menu is inventive and a welcome departure from the ordinary. I highly recommed this restaurant if you are in the area [close to the theatre district and times square]. I certainly plan to return again. Pros: Staff, Service , Food more
