Pretty nice 12/4/2006

After researching on Citysearch, I got a Christmas present for my boyfriend for the couples massage. Making the appointment was easy, all the reception people I dealt with were very nice and accommodating (I read some negative reviews, and was hesitant, but had no problems). The facilities are really nice, comfortable, and quiet. You almost feel like you're not in NYC which is great! My massage was a bit rough. It was very deep tissue, and I wasn't really able to relax. Maybe I am a wuss, but I just like medium strength general massage. My masseuse listened to my problem areas, but then he worked them like there was no tomorrow! Even when I told him the pressure was too strong, he continued. My boyfriend however loved his massage. Apparently he likes it rough! His masseuse was stepping on him and digging her elbows and feet into him. He was really happy and it was a present for him so that?s what counts. I would definitely recommend this place but be vocal about what you want (or don?t want) in your massage. After the massage we used the hot tub and steam room which was so relaxing. It felt like we had the place to ourselves because there were hardly any other people there. If you can, try going on a weekday mid afternoon. Pros: easy to make appointment, atmosphere more

Fab massage and other 11/30/2006

I just had my massage at Essential Therapy and must agree that it's to die for. The place is BEAUTIFUL, ambience is very relaxing and Jacuzzi was amazing. The massage itself was the best in my life ? the right pressure, the perfect technique, therapeutic and relaxing at the same time. I can highly recommend my therapist ? I believe her name is Daryl, warm personality and great hands. The music, candles, essential oils ? the whole experience was amazing and so transformational that I forgot who I am and where I am. As a result I left my jewelry in my robe (luckily they found it). Next time I?m bringing my boyfriend for a couple treatment. I disagree with some reviews complaining about the front desk ? in my case receptionists were very friendly and attentive. They showed me around, walked me to the locker room, explained how to use Jacuzzi. I felt that they really care and treat me as a valued client (which I am). Highly recommend this place. Pros: facilities, ambience Cons: none more

worst customer service EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 11/29/2006

the people at the front desk are so rude unhelpful and they are defintely not a place to go if you are looking to relax and have a pleasant welcoming.. the massages are however very good, but the bad customer service puts a bad taste in my opinion that I find it hard how other reviewers dont say anything...by the way, I NEVER complain about places am am not one of those "difficult" clients.. I happen to know for sure that other people feel this way , however I am the only one speaking up for now.. hopefully others will speak up so they can change their ways.. !!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

More than could ever be expected!! 10/11/2006

I am a new client of Essential Therapy and have found that not only do the therapist know what they are doing, but everyone welcomes you to what seems like an exclusive family!! The front desk staff is top notch and make you feel right at home the minute you walk in. Can't say enough good things about the people that work there. The owner, Carlos, has created an atmosphere that entices you to come back week after week. Because of this, it is a little crazy during the after work hours, but as long as you know you are going there to have one of the best massages in New York, you will not be disappointed . The numerous times I have been the past few weeks I have had the royal treatment and have been apologized to by all the staff when there was a mistake or the therapist was running late. This is bound to happen sometimes but so far it has been rare at Essential Therapy. By the time you leave, you know you were just taken care of by the best... I recommend this spa to everyone!! Pros: friendly staff, best massage, quiet and relaxing atmosphere Cons: because of the popularity it is sometimes hard to book appts. more

I came here for Spa Week & it was worth the money. The ambiance was soothing. I had the deep tissue massage which was good. She had good pressure & techniques. I would come back again for another massage & to check out the decor in the waiting room downstairs. Pros: Good Massage, Pretty Decor Cons: Small front desk area more

Very nice! 4/23/2006

My first experience at Essential Therapy exceeded my expectations. The facility was clean and classic in that rustic Asian mystical sort of way. The ambiance was perfect and even the candle lit waiting area felt relaxing. My therapist, Raul was extremely friendly and professional. He even took a moment after the massage to demonstrate and discuss some stretching techniques which made me feel like he genuinely cared about his clientele. Overall, a great experience and I would recommend Essential Therapy to anyone. Pros: Atmosphere, Professionalism, Quality more

My new favorite place to go! 4/4/2006

I have gotten three massages at Essential Therapy in the past 2 months by three different therapists and I have not been disappointed yet. They are all terrific, very attentive and able to change the pressure as I asked (I love deep tissue). The reception people greeted me warmly as I arrived, they not only gave me my robe but they also walked me downstairs to the locker room and at the same time gave me a tour, showed me where the jacuzzi was, the sauna etc. As to the place I have never seen a place as beautiful as this. Even the most expensive spas have simple nice painted room but at Essential Therapy every room is different. I love the fabrics on the floor, it is one of my favorite things at Essential Therapy, it feels great on my toes when Im going to the locker room. GREAT,GREAT. Pros: massage/quality, atmosphere, attentiveness Cons: no more
