Best

I called the day before my husband's birthday and needed Red Velvet Cake. Melissa (owner) jumped into action & told me what inventory she had. She DID have Red Velvet Dingdongs!...

YUMMY! 8/26/2009

I called the day before my husband's birthday and needed Red Velvet Cake. Melissa (owner) jumped into action & told me what inventory she had. She DID have Red Velvet Dingdongs! :) And RV Cupcakes. BUT she gave me the list of other options she had on hand & I was intrigued. I ordered a dozen assorted Dingdongs & Cupcakes for pickup the next day. I had a dental emergency & we didn't have the ""party"" so I called & told her that I wouldn't need them all & for her to find a good home for as many cupcakes as she could. She got a call from someone else who was last minute who was GLAD to have the cupcakes! :) She did a great job keeping everyone happy! And you GOTTA try the dingdongs! There was one with grapefruit that sounds weird but tastes GREAT! :) WELL worth the drive! Pros: helpful, delicious, variety, unique combinations Cons: not close to my house :( more

Chocoholics & non-chocolate lovers can find fabulous things here! 7/2/2008

This place is great - it's not a cookie cutter bakery or coffee place & that's kinda the nice part. They use a local roaster for their coffee - and their Mochas are ""Hot Chocolate with a shot of Espresso"" - not the other way around. Their offerings change & it's best to pre-order if you really want something specific, but you can always get a great brownie or fabulous Oatmeal Raisin cookie - yes - they do things without chocolate. I get things for my office, have had gifts sent to clients & several birthday cakes all with rave reviews. Currently they don't make their own candy or chocolates - they get them from some other place - but they may start doing more soon (according to the rumor mill!). It's a small bakery - I gather primarily selling Wholesale - but a yummy change of pace to all the ""machine made"" places. If you are a chocoholic, get a Wicked Chocolate Cake or the Heath Bar Fudge Cake - soooo rich! But my friend orders their Blueberry scones when she comes into town... there is something there for everyone. Enjoy!! more

Not so sure about this place... 7/8/2007

My husband got me an assortment of chocolates from here for Valentine's Day. While they were certainly interesting and the flavors were exotic and varied, I was by no means blown away. I had seen their website and heard about them online, and thought I should go back, give it another chance and see what all the fuss was about.\r \r While all of the cupcakes, cookie bars, moonpies and other products are absolutely beautiful (and you can see this on their site, as well) -- nothing tasted as good as it looked. We tried a little of everything. I was probably most disappointed in the moonpie...it is the most gorgeouos of their products, but was cakey, with no taste in the middle whatsoever. I'm not sure what the 'marshmallow' was actually made of, but it just wasn't right. The cookie bars also just didn't taste right. We even had a piece of cheesecake...and I thought, ""Now this should be good. How can you mess up cheesecake?"" Well, they didn't mess it up, but it really was just average.\r \r It also seems the business front itself is open at random times of the day, and I've often seen a ""be back in 10 minutes"" sign posted on the door for hours at a time. Finally, their site and other sites talk about the ""Babies at the Bakery"" program, but when I went to check it out, though there were children's toys around and evidence that this really did exist at one time, I was told they ""don't do it anymore."" Perhaps you should pick up the toys and stop advertising it, then!\r \r Anyway, I think this place is really overrated. Definitely doesn't deserve 5 stars. Try it for yourself....but I've definitely had desserts that may not have looked as good, but certainly tasted much, much better. Pros: Beautiful, varied assortment of desserts and chocolate Cons: Nothing tastes as good as it looks! more

What a wonderful discovery!! Muffins, scones and coffee cake in the morning. A variety of bars, cupcakes, cookies and the amazing cakes throughout the day. And all can be enjoyed with your favorite latte or whatever!! From a small meeting to a dinner party, this is the only place I will order my desserts!! Everything is delicious, but I encourage you to discover your own favorites. Pros: Delicious, Great Service, Good Parking more

O my gosh...sooooo yummy! 8/15/2005

The Essential Chocolate Collection is a very cute bakery with great coffee and incredible desserts... They have so many scrumptious sweets that it is hard to pick a favorite, but so far my favorite are those black and white brownies....they're white chocolate and dark chocolate with a thin raspberry layer in the middle. O my gosh....soooooo yummy! Pros: Unique desserts, Great coffee, Friendly staff more

Boutique Source for Chocolate Baked Goods 8/11/2005

This little gem of a bakery in Culver City offers an amazing array of treats you don't find at most bakeries. My favorites include the Belgian Chocolate Moon Pies, Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bars, Chocolate Coffee Cream Cake and huge cupcakes with lots of buttercream frosting. Their stuff is perfect for small get-togethers...or to eat by yourself! more

Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate 8/10/2005

The best chocolate fudge brownie in the city. The cupcakes are outstanding. A nice quiet place to sit and have coffee or tea and the specialties of the house. Just learned I could get a specialty cake for a party or event. Also has Melfers Macaroons for more chocolate. This is A+++++. Pros: Quite, Fast service, On the Westside more
