Worst property managers in Austin 9/20/2007

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT RENT PROPERTY MANAGED BY ELY PROPERTIES... They are heavily active around the university areas (U/T and St. Eds), and unfortunately are both unresponsive to student's rental needs and prey on inexperienced young clientele that cannot defend themselves against building maintenance problems, etc. They specialize in producing lists of uncompleted maintenance repairs that go against returns on deposits. (ex: $25 for three light bulbs that worked when we left, $1600 for paint- when the apt was NOT painted when we moved in nor when the next client moved in). They are virtually nonexistent in responding to repairs to defective property. For instance, we had numerous issues upon move-in, with leaky toilets, black stains around the toilet areas and floors, smelly carpets, holes in the walls, and a filthy kitchen. They assured us in our walk-though all of these would be fixed and the problems would come off of our rent. Never happened! We had a cleaning service clean the apartment in order to get our deposit returned, and months later, they sent us a laundry list of small items that nickled and dimed us down to about $100 in a returned deposit, despite having proof of the defects when we moved in and the condition when we left (we actually met with the next renters to confirm they did not paint). They managed to rip off all of our hard-earned student income, and as students, we deserve better than to be railroaded like this. Avoid them at all costs. When I get through law school you'd better believe they will think twice about conning other students!!! Pros: location was close to university Cons: lack of maintenance, lack of responsiveness, unattentive to issues more

Avoid at all costs. 3/23/2007

They've gained a horrible reputation for themselves around the campus area. I've leased a condo from them for a year now. When I first went to look at apartments with an agent, he didn't even have working keys for most of the apartments he showed me! I've should have quit then. They charge me for routine maintenance and twice now they've charged me for my next door neighbor's maintenance (broken glass, clogged toilet), which takes about a day to work through with them. When they figure out that it was their fault, I get no apology, just a ""We've taken care of it."" When they put the complex up for sale (and didn't tell me that I had no chance to renew for next year), I had between three and five people coming into my apartment when I wasn't there, and rarely did they confirm that it was okay with me for them to enter my apartment at the time I had scheduled. I even signed a lease saying if my condo was sold, they would reserve another apartment in the complex for me and my roommate to move into. After my condo sold, I called to set up an appointment to look at my new unit, she informed me that all the units had been sold. The upside is, now I won't have to deal with them anymore. Most of the people I've talked to who have dealt with them had the same degree of problems with them.\r \r So basically, if you don't want to pay a whole lot for a whole lot of hassle, don't go with Ely Properties. Pros: Location, I guess. Cons: customer service, maintenance request wait time, competency, trustworthiness more

worst place to deal with EVER 4/2/2006

I have never lived in such a horrible complex. It takes over a month to get anything fixed around here. You're better off fixing it yourself. Not to mention the rude staff and their unresponsiveness to emails. They also charge you for whatever reason and don't tell you until it is too late. They love to make you pay late fees. And not just that, they don't even give you a copy of anything until much later. Do yourself a favor and don't lease from them. Pros: parking, location Cons: rude, unresponsive, price, everything breaks more
