Best

first time at red door, had a wonderful facial from Janetta.relaxing hour and very satisfied with the results..have set an appointed for the next coming weeks.

Worst

The service was only so-so and the results were not worth the price. I got a manicure and my mother got a cut and color.

Want horrible experience? Come here... 7/24/2011

I had a mug wrap and 50-min swedish massage treatment. i had to take a shower and was told that the spa had been having problems with hot water, or the lack of. So my therapist, PAMELA, set me up in the men's shower/locker room with coolest water. There was no door lock and she said she would stand at the door while I showered. Sure enough when I was taking a shower, a man walked in. The shower was facing the lockers and I thought it was the therapist. I wasn't sure if he saw me. When I finished showering and wanted to open the shower curtain for my robe and towel. I saw him & asked him to leave and he asked me how long I needed, 2 mins or 3 mins. I said whenever I am done putting on my clothes. He waited outside. WHAT HAPPENED TO MY THERAPIST WHO WAS SUPOSSED TO STAND AT THE DOOR?? I walked out and told my therapist a guy had walked in. She asked if the guy had saw me naked. She said she went out to the front and didn't see any guy waiting for services and the receptionist wasn't there. So she ASSUMED no man was around. She pretended nothing had happened. WTF?! more

Great Facial 5/22/2011

Went for a gentleman's facial a few days ago. Sandra did a fantastic job. My skin was cleaned and glowing after and I've already booked another appointment in a few weeks. Can't wait to get back! more

Not the best facial 10/14/2010

Went to the Red Door Salon last night and had the most half-ass treatment I've ever experienced. If I wanted someone to wash my face and put a mask on I would have asked my roommate and saved the $$$$. The red door has a great relaxation room with nice customer service... All seems well until you walk into your treatment room where the half-assing begins.. After a semi decent rub down on my face and neck, there was a few minutes of extractions, and then a loooong time left alone in that room with a thick mask on my face. Elizabeth Arden is not living up to her name here at the red door salon..... more

Best Massage EVER...Thank you, Lumi! 7/19/2010

I had never had a massage in my life, and I have serious and debilitating body image issues...you can bet I was nervous. I told this to my gorgeous masseuse, Lumi, who was compassionate and sympathetic; clearly I was not the first person she had come across with these issues, and she dealt with me tenderly and with the utmost respect. She said that she wanted me to relax and enjoy the experience and she would not talk to me so I could do so; I explained that talking would be fine since I was so nervous! Those hot stones were amazing! Lumi kept asking me if they were too hot or if I wanted them hotter. In short, when she was done, I attempted to get up and my body felt as if it were filled with Jell-O. Lumi was incredible and even worked out a seriously painful area of my shoulder-blade that has been waking me up with stabbing pain for the past few months?GONE. Pros: Great staff, delicious food, relaxing atmosphere Cons: Expensive! more

Easily one of the worst eyebrow waxing ever 3/26/2010

I got a gift certificate and was scheduled for a regular facial and added a brow wax at the last minute. I hate when places sell you on their products at the end of a service but in the middle of the facial?? Just let me relax already! Pros: Umm...got nothing for this Cons: Overselling of products, noisy treatment room, poor job more

A big disappointment 10/25/2009

I received a gift certificate for my birthday to visit the Red Door Spa. I've made it a habit to get two facials a year, and was really looking forward to the service, particularly since I am three months pregnant. The reception upon entering was nice - they were cordial and pleasant, and I waited about ten minutes before being met by my technician. Just after the facial began I noticed the technician was definitely ill. She couldn't stop coughing, and was sniffling as well. Being pregnant I was obviously not crazy about someone coughing all over my face, but what was I going to do? She seemed to be speeding through the facial(fastest facial I've ever had), and actually had to get up to leave the room a few times(she eventually opened a window too). Facials are not cheap, and I was really upset that not only was there sick person hovering over me, but she was moving as fast as humanly possible to get something done that was supposed to be a pampering and relaxing experience. This was the least relaxing and pampering facial I've ever had. Upon checking out(after trying to be sold numerous products by the sick technician) I was barely grunted to by the check out person. She literally slapped my change down on the counter and did not say thank you, or thanks for visiting our spa. Not a word. I was so disappointed with the experience, and don't want to tell my in laws how poor it was(they gifted me with the gift certificate), but don't want anyone else to waste their money or time visiting this place. It's not worth it - do yourself a favor and go to Bliss Spa instead. Cons: Sick technician, poor check out service more

Great Spa! 10/16/2009

I can't believe all the bad reviews.? Yesterday day I just had my 1st experience at the Red Door for Spa week. I got my very 1st facial and did the stress melter ritual (which is NOT a massage), The melter ritual is a scrub down, then oil apply, a foot or head massage and they you stay wrapped up for 20 min. My skin felt amazing and it was very relaxing. Najlaa was very sweet, she told me in the begining what the process was, so the treatment was quite and all I can do was relax. I was in a corner room that was above 5th ave, I did here a few car horns but this is NYC, it's common noise and did not affect me at all. After she was done she had me get dress and when she greeted me again with a glass of water for me. She walked me over to the elevator, pressed the button for me, walked in, press the next floor for me to go to and told me to Enjoy my facial!!! WOW I was so impressed. Then I went downstairs for my 1st facial, with Mikia. I'm 26 y/o and I have always been scared to get a facial because I'm very fair and have senstive skin and I didn't want to be left with bumps or redness. But Mikia assured me none of that will happen. She told very good care of me, offered me a drink or if I have to use the ladies room before she started. She applied everything gentle, never had anything get into my mouth or eyes. Did a parrfin on my hands and gave a great neck, shoulder massage. The extractions were a little painful but I'm a cry baby when it comes to pain, and she did it as gentle as possilbe but for the results I got it was worth it!! She did offered some products to purchased and to start using a new beauty regime. I declined the products for purchased but I will started the regime as she suggested. Pros: Sweet staff, fast service Cons: Small changing Rooms more

Not as bad as expected 9/7/2009

I got a gift certificate for the signature package, and after reading all the negative reviews, it took me a few months to muster up the courage to redeem it. Let me just say that it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be! My swedish massage with Najlaa was awesome. She was very nice, and the massage was absolutely heavenly. I wasn't so crazy about my facial - it felt clinical, it hurt a bit more than was comfortable, and I was scolded for having less than perfect skin by my esthetitian. It really did not help me feel relaxed or pampered! My mani/pedi was probably the best I've ever had! Totally loved every minute of it! I should have skipped the makeup application because I never even wear makeup up, and I left looking like a socialite sextagenarian. Over all, I'd say the experience was OK. If I did go again, I'd book a massage and mani/pedi. Pros: Great massage, pretty space Cons: facial and makeup application more

WORST SPA/SALON IN NY 4/10/2009

BIGGEST DUMP EVER! This place is so gross. The aestheticians are terrible and rude- pushing products down your throat. Someone stole my underwear from my locker while I was having a facial- there are no locks on the lockers. This place is so dirt and the people working there are RUDE RUDE RUDE! The lady giving my facial was texting on her cell the whole time- her hands were rough and hurt like sand-paper on my face. It is so gross in there- not sure how this place has not been closed down by the sanitation board.. STAY AWAY Cons: GROSS more

Great time at the spa 3/12/2009

Pros: The staff ,massage facials lemon water love it all! Cons: cold waiting room more

highly recommended 2/17/2009

I received this as an early Valentines Day present. I loved the mud spa bath and massage. Rhoda was terrific. Although I didn't pay for it, I took a look at the prices and it was a bit expensive. Definately worth it Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: slightly expensive more

lovely relaxing day 1/27/2009

My sister and I visited the Red Door Spa few weeks ago and we both had a great experience . We had facials, massages and body scrubs and they were terrific. The therapists Rhoda and Liza were welcoming, friendly and very talented. They recommended products used during the treatment ,but there was not a hard sell - just a nice recommendation. We will definably return. We've been to a number of spas in the city - this was a great experience and a relaxing day. Pros: therapists and treatments more

HIGHLY recommend it ! 1/27/2009

I got few massages before, but none compare to the job done by Olga Liza. She was very attentive and receptive to feedback I told her that problems I was having and her fingers worked their magic. She gave excellent pressure and even worked on my feet . When I left I felt like a new person and my faith in massages has been restored. I HIGHLY recommend her especially for those who get a little nervous about massage-she's great I keep telling my friends to get an appointment fast and even though it was very busy the day I visited, no one made me wait. I recommend getting there early, the reception desk gets pretty busy. Pros: Amazing massage by Liza Cons: Very busy front desk more

I love Liza's massage! 1/2/2009

I came to Red Door last week with and old gift certificated from last mother's day and after walking all NYC with my xmas shopping in the bad cold wheather. I was so happy to find Liza my therapist she was amazing, managing to release pain and tension from my neck and back. She made sure that I was comfortable and warm.. It was the best massage I ever had, I highly recommend Liza when you are looking for relaxation just ask for the Signature massage. Pros: wonderful massage Cons: no sauna or steam room ....bummer! more

Shoddy Service; Long Wait; Give Them a Miss!! 12/6/2008

I have to say considering the amount they charge their service leaves much to be desired. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Bad job, pushing additional services, not relaxing, keeps you waiting more

THE worst facial i've had in NYC 11/23/2008

I booked the Elizabeth Arden Signature facial for both my fiance and myself. Both of us were very displeased with the services we received. It was not relaxing, very painful and we left feeling greasy and dirty. Check-in was quick - neither of us waited long at all. Their ""treatment rooms"" are not in a good location at all. They are all located just beyond the check-in desks. My fiance heard constant noise from people checking in throughout his whole service. I was in a room a little farther away from the desks, but they had the window partially open and heard all the 5th Ave traffic/noise (not very conducive for being ""relaxed"" or ""pampered""). The worst part of the facial was cleaning the pores. They do not use tools (which they are very proud of), except they just use their finger nails w a tissue. Both of us have gotten facials from various spas in the city and know that cleaning pores out is never pleasant. But it was EXTREMELY painful at Red Door Spa - the most painful facial we've ever had. As if that wasn't bad enough, the woman performing the facial on my fiance took a chunk of skin off his nose. My lady kept telling me to open my eyes and see the gunk she got out on the tissue. Would anyone want to see this?? They kept putting more and more layers of masks/lotions on our faces. By the end, I felt like a greasy, oily mess. My lady was so sloppy with the applications and got the products in my hair. I left the salon looking like I hadn't showered in days (greasy, matted, stringy hair). Additionally, they put very heavy hand cream on my hands and then put them in warming 'mits' for the whole service. That was very comfortable. However, my lady never asked me if I would like to remove my engagement ring before she did this. After we left the spa, I promptly went to get my ring cleaned, which was covered in hand cream. We will never be going back to Red Door Spa. Pros: Quick Check In Cons: Not relaxing, painful more

Not what I expected 11/13/2008

Someone got me a gift cert for this spa. I expected it would be ""high end,"" clean, peaceful and organized. It was NONE of the above. And my facial seemed super-rushed. She took the full time, but she was moving so quickly, as if she just wanted to get it over-with. And she tried to up-sell me on added treatments while I was there. Not at all relaxing. Pros: My face actually ""glowed"" Cons: Chaotic, Dingy, Pushy/salesy, Rushed more

Love my stylist 11/8/2008

I go to stylist Michelle every month and am always happy with my cut and style. Always a nice treat too getting a great scalp massage during the shampoo. I haven't tried the massages there yet, but seems pretty convenient to have that as an option down the road. Pros: Great hours and location more
