Professional tailoring, fast service and reasonable prices. 8/3/2010

Whenever you need quality, inexpensive tailoring, Elias is the place to go. They will do anything from simply shortening your pants to fixing the most complicated gown or piece of designer wear. We have used them on many occasions and have always been happy with the results. more

TERRIBLE! 7/26/2010

I take things here on occasion and every time I have to go back to have them fix what they have done. Its a fight to get them to admit there mistake and get them to fix it. I WILL NEVER GO BACK! The seamstress on staff clearly have no idea what they're doing! The staff in the front is so rude and could care less that they have unhappy customers. Cons: unprofessional staff in every way more

The Best Tailors 5/23/2010

When I first came to LA 10 years ago I had a suit that I needed to get tailored as I had lost weight and was going in for an interview. I was told about Elias Custom Tailoring and when I went in they did a marvelous job and I have gone back more times than I can count. All my suits, shirts, slacks and one ""old"" leather jacket I had was redone and I bought it in 1988 and it looks like a new jacket. I have to say if you need anything done this place is the place to go always professional and on time and what I like most is everything fits like I stood there and had them sew the clothes on me. If you want a job done right then go to Elias my girl friend went to a shop on Montana Avenue cause she thought his quote for a fur coat was to high, guess what she had to bring it to Elias for the correction (thank goodness he could fix it). One last point I lost 26 lbs last year for a info commercial I did and all my clothes had to be altered and Elias did them and they all turned out wonderful. Everybody is always telling me how nice I look this place gets the credit. Pros: Very Sharp Staff and Workmenship is GREAT Cons: Wish they had more locations.... more

Good Tailors 6/4/2009

I don't know why Elias has so many negative reviews. I go here all the time and am very particular. I am satisfied with the job they do, you just have to have a clear idea of what you want and give them instructions. I am very well versed in tailoring and fashion and do not think that they deserve such scathing reviews. Pros: Parking Cons: Expensive more

Not Worth It 4/2/2009

I have been going here off and on for a few years. I will not go back. I have had to take most things back because the legs are never even. Even when I've asked them to pin both legs they do not come out right. The hems have gotten sloppier as well. Cons: many more

Great Tailoring 2/21/2009

I love Elias and go here for all of my high end tailoring needs. I live in a building with its own cleaners and tailor; however, still drive 30 minutes to go to Elias. Pros: It is expensive, but worth it. I'll pay up for quality. more

horrible! 8/29/2008

elias ruined my pants and a dress I took in to be tailored. When I asked for the pants to be fixed, they were very rude. Steer clear of this place! more

Horrible work, and untrustworthy personnel 7/29/2008

I brought in a shirt that was to be taken in at the sleeves. They cut off too much fabric and ruined the shirt. They lied about who did the work, and lied about a phone call I had made to them to deal with the issue when I returned from vacation. Cons: service, workmanship, more

Unacceptable At Any Price 4/10/2008

Nearly destroyed my jacket and refused to acknowledge his atrocious and sloppy workmanship. The attitude and work are unacceptable at any price, much less the high prices he charges. I could have stopped payment on the check but didn't want the hassle. When I came home I Googled ""leather repair tailor Santa Monica"" and don't you know this guy's name came up! Sure enough many people have had similar experiences as me. Do not go to this place. more

Horrible work, unprofessional, and rude. 3/19/2008

This was my first and last experience at Elias. Pros: None. Cons: Rude, poor work, offensive people. more

Elias and Jack are great to work with 2/18/2008

My wife and I have been going to Elias and Jack for about five years now. They have always done a good job for us and quickly. They are not the least expensive, and maybe not the absolute best tailors in Los Angeles-- but they are very good. They have never been rude or unfair. We have had to take back some pants which were shortened too much one time and they fixed them no charge and no attitude. Not bad when you consider they have done about 20 pairs for us. No person or business is perfect. People in Los Angeles can be very rude to people they see as below them. It is a vulgarity peculiar to this region of the country. I suspect that people who have had bad experiences with these guys probably mismanaged their approach. People who expect perfection will always be dissapointed and at times, in my opinion, unnecessarily mean spirited. Pros: quickness, friendliness Cons: expensive more

Terrible job 12/3/2007

I've been to Elias a few times and have had from okay to terrible results. The first time I had a pair of jeans hemmed and they turned out fine. The second time I had a dress taken in along the seams and the dress came out a little snugger than when it was pinned but it was still wearable. Feeling somewhat satisfied, I took a silk top that needed many alterations including taking in the shoulders and changing the placement of seams and they did a terrible job. The stitches they placed in the delicate material to make princess seams were very large and obvious and made the shirt look cheap. The shoulders were taken in unevenly and looked awful as well. I didn't try to have them correct it as I had no faith in their abilities at this point. I took it to another tailor out of town who performed miracles and saved my blouse. Elias seems more like a factory where they put in the minimal effort possible and charge way too much. I don't recommend. Pros: fast Cons: they might ruin your clothes! more

Save your clothes: there are better and more affordable tailors out there. 9/7/2007

I'm in the fashion biz so I should have known better... headshots of celebs on the walls should have been be the first warning sign. I had jeans and skirts tailored but they were sub par, and the skirt was ruined - worse than a job I could've had done at the local drycleaner, and it's DOUBLE the price! Elias doesn't do the tailoring anyway, he has a line of employees in the back doing the sewing, and they don't exactly instill confidence. One of my skirts had to be re-tailored -- what a pain esp bc I wanted to wear it that weekend. While I was there, a customer's tshirt hem was cut too short, and he got into a fight with a woman who wanted her hem re-done. Weird. People like him but I think they are the older shoulder-pad wearing crowd. Service is terrible. Save your clothes, go elsewhere. more

Best Tailoring Experience on the Westside! 6/23/2007

I have used Elias Tailoring for more than a decade. Their work was always a cut above! Unfortunately, I was treated just as badly as the other reviewers. more

Beyond TERRIBLE!!!! 5/14/2007

Elias is the worst place you could possibly go. I took in several suits to be tailored. Elias did not price each item separately, nor even list each item that was to be altered. He just listed a total price of over $200. After I paid and picked up the suits, I realized that one of pants had not been altered at all. I took it back and he told me I didn't pay to have it altered. How would he know? The receipt didn't reflect how many items I had taken in. All I know is I took in these pieces to be altered, he measured, and he gave me a total price. Now, after one of the pants wasn't altered, he tells me I never paid for it? We proceeded to get into an argument over it where I pointed out that I brought in the piece with the others, paid a (very high) total which he stated, and then he didn't do the work. He proceeded to say he wasn't going to alter the pants for free and if I wanted them altered, I needed to pay extra!!!! Needless to say, I didn't pay extra and I'm never going back. The guy is a real ***hole! Cons: Terrible Work and Terrible Service more

DON'T GO HERE. 3/18/2007

I ignored the other reviews on this site and went to Elias Tailoring to have a leather jacket altered. I told him what I wanted. He marked it. When I picked it up it was wrong. He refused to fix it correctly without charging me again. The first charge was $100. A lot. The receipt claims he will fix anything within 7 days of the work being done. He just refused. And was very rude. Cons: Fradulent service, rude behavior, shoddy work more

Work done is great, staff is o.k., price maybe a little high. 1/22/2007

Work done is great, staff is o.k., price maybe a little high. I only go there b/c I live around the corner from Elias. Pros: quality of work. A-list celebrity head line the walls. They like going there. it must be good. right????? Cons: Price $$$$ more

rude service 1/13/2007

I went to this shop for many years because although slow and sometimes a little off, I found that they were better than many in town. However, the customer services has gone severely downhill. After being a faithful customer (one who even returned hangers!) on a monthly basis for a long time, even I started experiencing being yelled at and brushed off if I complained about uneven or sloppy work. Once I was even shooed away and berated in front of others when I came to pick up my clothes on the promised date and found them not ready. And when I told them I wanted an explanation as to why I was being treated this way although I had been a long time and loyal customer, the yelling got louder and I was told they did not need my business. So they don't have it anymore. Try Lizon or First Class. more

disappointing! 10/15/2006

I've been using Elias for about 2 years. . . It is convenient to where I live, so I just kept going. However, I've started to notice a pattern. . . my pants are ALWAYS just a little bit too long when I get them back. They look great when pinned, but then, after the work is done, they are off. I've also gotten sleeves back that were different lengths. Unfortunately, they only guarantee their work for 7 days - so if you want the protection of that gaurantee, you better wear the stuff soon after you get it back. Overall, I am just disappointed. . . thought I'd found a great tailor, but over time, have found that their work is pretty sloppy. more

The customer is always wrong here.... 9/25/2006

The two times I've taken things there the work has been satisfactory. However, both times other people in the store were complaining about problems with the work, and were shrugged off by the staff. They are completely uninterested in customer service, kinda like the Soup Na zi in Seinfeld, but without the humor. Overt rudeness is their normal disposition. Pros: "Family" owned business? Cons: Rude, arrogant staff. They make sure you know your place... more
