Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant that never disappoints.

Worst

I always enjoy the fare at El Paso but during my last order my meal was extremely late and when I called to inquire as to why I was told that they do not take orders via grubhub.c...

I got the mixiote and it was good, the service was good except for unresolved portion.\r Sad to say the portion was small and what made it even smaller was the amount of bones, nearly half.\r Told server, mentioned that it was good, wet my appitite and left me hungry. \r He said he would let them know in kitchen and was never mentioned again. \r Really surprised I was not offered a bit more or a free drink, for $19 I got appetizer amount of food. We all make mistakes and as a business it would be great to rectify when something like this is pointed out. more

Traditional Mexican at it's best! 3/14/2011

El Paso Mexican Restaurant is one of the best spots in the city to find authentic traditional Mexican food (my opinion of course). Everything is good from their Ceviches to Burritos. I live downtown and make the trek up to 1643 because it's that good! more

Authentic Traditional Mexican 1/12/2011

El Paso is as good as it gets in my opinion. Food is so fresh and the flavors used you can tell come straight from down south. Already booked a reservation for next Friday. mmm can't wait. more

FOOD IS THE BEST!!! 1/7/2011

Amazing Mexican! 12/10/2010

If you are looking for real authentic traditional mexican food then this is the spot. I live in gramercy and I make my way up to this spot because it's so good. I''ve tried many things and nothing has disappointed me... more

Better than the one on 116th st!!! much better!!!! 9/13/2009

I've been going to this place for many years and I always liked it. however the one on 116th st. is dirty the manager (Joaquine or something like that) is nasty and unfriendly. we found a hair on our food on 116th st. and he was not very nice about it. anyway I highly recommend this one on Lexington and 104th st. their new Cevicheria across the street is beautiful and huge. we just hope it stays with good prices and good food. Pros: food, location (subway right there) Cons: the one on 116th st. with same name. more

Excellent Food, Even Better Value 3/5/2009

I eat at El Paso at least twice a week and have never been disappointed. I like my guacamole spicy, and El Paso always delivers. Tacos are great, but you can't go wrong with any of the entrees, especially the perfectly balanced mole rojo. While El Paso's food outshines other far more expensive Mexican restaurants, the service and ambiance make it one of the best establishments of its kind in New York City. more

I always enjoy the fare at El Paso but during my last order my meal was extremely late and when I called to inquire as to why I was told that they do not take orders via grubhub.com...even though I have previously made orders through them. I called grubhub directly and Ian F. helped me not only get my meal delivered but provided me with a gift card due to El Paso's negligence. more

Great service and menu 3/26/2008

Great burritos and tacos if you are in the area 8/6/2007

I live just a few blocks from this restaurant so it was a no-brainer to stop by and check it out. I went on a Friday night around 8 and it was crowded but we were seated immediately. Our requests for what beers they had were met by a flurry which only a native Spanish speaker could have understood. I made a joke about how I only caught ""corona"" but our waiter seemed unamused and not interested in repeating so that we could understand. Ok so I order a corona. It takes 5 minutes to get to us even though we are the closest table to the bar and I can see the bottles of beer sitting almost within arm's reach. I order the chicken burrito and my girlfriend gets the tacos. The burrito was filled with chicken, mushrooms, peppers, topped off with amazing cheese and was incredibly well flavored. It was definitely one of the most flavorful burritos I have ever had. My girlfriend also thought well of the tacos and neither of us came close to finishing the meal. Pros: Flavorful food, large portions Cons: Rude service, felt a little bit like an outsider eventhough I live in the area more

Great tacos-- most everything else average. 10/7/2006

We've been going to El Paso for years, and we've been watching the prices creep up and more ""barrio tourists"" drift in. Here's the skinny: the tacos are really fresh and flavorful, the tamales are tasty, the huaraches are substantial, the salsas are terrific and the soups are great. The guacamole is excellent but expensive (I think it's up to $7.99 now-- used to be $5). If you stray from those basics, you're doing it at your own risk. Pros: Great tacos, tamales, huaraches Cons: Service can be slow more

Home to the $50 margarita pitcher. Bring a flask 7/29/2006

Ah, El Paso Taqueria. That bastion of ""authentic"" Mexican food in Spanish Harlem that earned raves by white reviewers, leading other gringos to nervously venture to Spanish Harlem and pretend they're trendy to pay too much for food that is only marginally better than the place around the corner. But really, El Paso is the home to the $50 pitcher of margaritas. At least tonight. Maybe tomorrow it will be the $48 pitcher. Maybe the $60 pitcher. You see, when they cross out the price a few times on your bill and write new numbers, it's pretty clear they're making it up as they go along. Sure, you can try to dispute the bill, but even cries of locals are unsuccessful. Don't blame the waiter -- he didn't make up the price (allegedly) nor does he see the profit on what was $5 of tequila he sighs. Instead, just pay your bill, start a fight and storm out, vowing to return to order the reasonably priced appetizers that are a meal in themselves and to avoid the overpriced entrees that are a sure sign that this place has not only jumped the shark, but that it will charge you $50 for a small piece of that shark that would cost you $2 at the bodega across the street. Pros: Appetizers are a meal alone, great execution on solid staples Cons: Terrible drinks, poor value, wildly overrated more

Authentic Mexican Food 6/26/2006

I love this restaurant. I've been eating here for years. Try the Enchiladas Poblanas, they are delicious. Great place to watch the World Cup, too. Pros: There's free parking on the street. more

Great food at great prices 5/10/2006

I live around the corner from this place and this it is a great value for a great price. The food is authentic traditional mexican, and tastes great. The service is fast. The only this I don't like about this place is how tiny it is. Girls do not bring a large pocketbook if you are going to be dining here. Pros: Inexpensive, Good Food Cons: Small, Crowded more

No longer authentic... 10/7/2005

This was a great place... true Mexican food in NYC... I had been longing for it since I left my home state of New Mexico. I not only enjoyed the affordable good food, but the atmosphere reminded me of home... I went there a few weeks ago and was sorely disappointed. The food was not as good (still more authentic than 95% of ""Mexican"" places in NYC), the menu had been revamped for non-native eaters and prices had gone up accordingly. The biggest disappointment... the atmosphere that reminded me of home no longer existed. The restaurant was filled with people who knew little or nothing aobut Mexican food - I heard many of them pestering the waitresses for mild dishes (why eat it if you don't really appreciate it's). Luckily, I now know of other real Mexican places... that's where you'll find me eating nopalitos and drinking horchata... Pros: Pretty Good Food Cons: Prices , Crowd more
