Incompitent. Find someone else 6/9/2009

I'm very disappointed in Dr. Silvers practices. I went in to have a 2nd opinion from a specialist instead of General Practitioner.I did various tests and I had appointments which I spent plenty of time waiting in a room for him to come in. I could always hear him outside the room talking on the phone. The walls are PAPER thin, so if you want to talk about anything private don't be surprised if someone outside or next door can hear you. Im not sure how this bodes with HIPAA laws. In any case, when I did finally see him for the first time he hardly examined me and based on one or two symptoms I didn't have he insisted I did not have this condition. but yet I can go online and read hundreds of stories about people who only had one or two symptoms and were passed off like this before as well. On my second appointment they had me come back JUST TO READ ME MY TEST RESULTS in which he said ""Everything was normal"". I cannot for the life of me figure out why I needed to have an appointment just to spend 5 minutes of him telling me my results are normal. Im glad I dont pay a copay because that was a waste of my afternoon. Also, they continually say my result is ""low normal"" and I think well its either low or its normal...which is it. they give me no course of action or treatment except to say ""check back in 6 months."" One of the times they didn't even order the right lab work and didn't call me to tell me not to come because they didn't have the tests done. instead I drove all the way there sat in a waiting room for them to come in and tell me that they dont have results and ""just call tomorrow."" The woman at front is very nice, but the front office is a pig sty. Its so messy and I probably should have taken that as a good sign as to how the business operates. a lot can be said for first opinions. They need to get with the times and get off this ""paper documents"" and go completely computer. The front desk is swamped with files and notes and papers everywhere. there is no organization and often it requires searching to find things. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone. Im currently looking for a THIRD opinion and hopefully Ill find a doctor who will actually check up on other things that could cause the same symptoms Im having instead of one who passes them off. Mark Silver is also very abrasive with his patients. If you happen to come in with a list of questions to ask him FORGET IT. he'll get very frustrated. try to interupt you before you finish and when you want the ""patient version"" not the medical terms or you have an extended question on the subject he repeats the same answers and doesn't elaborate at all. when he comes in you can tell he just wants to hurry up and be done with you. He doesn't have any manners when it comes to making you feel like you're a valued patient or even like he enjoys helping people and thats why he does this. Im not sure why he doesn't just retire. I think he needs to. In any case, I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere. you will not like this clinic. Pros: I can't even think of one. Cons: Too many to even list. more

bad bedside manner, hard to work with. 8/31/2008

I went to Dr. Silver for a consult on my thyroid because my doctor wanted a second opinion, and Dr. Silver just sort of took over. He has a terrible bedside manner, and I always left an appointment with him feeling like everything was entirely my fault and that I was actually very sick (I'm really not). For instance, he was very grave and concerned about my bp (it was 121/72) and made me feel as if I were about to have a stroke. He's very insensitive about weight issues, so if you're at all overweight you'd better have a thick skin. I ended my relationship with him after two years, and I should have done it a lot sooner. He was constantly tinkering with my medicines to keep me coming back more often. I felt very powerless as a patient. For example, he prescribed a medicine that has a common side effect of low potassium (without telling me), and so after suffering weeks of leg cramps he finally told me after looking at my test results, ""Oh, your potassium is low."" I was so mad! I am an intelligent, organized, in-control sort of patient usually, but I could never be this way with him. Instead, I felt very disempowered. Anything I found out about his treatments was from researching it on my own, not from office visits. His office staff is fantastic, though, especially his receptionist. I feel sad about not seeing her again. His office only answers the phones during certain hours on certain days, so it can also be a headache getting appointments. Pros: nice office staff, good phlebotamist Cons: bad bedside manner, difficult hours, hard to work with more

Try another one 3/10/2008

I have been going to Dr. Silver's office for a little over 6 mo. I usually have to wait about an hour to see the doctor for 5, maybe 10, minutes. He didn't give me any details of my progress. So, in my last appointment and stood in front of him looking at my medical record and start asking a bunch of question. Then, he explained to me and gave me some info about my condition (after 6 mo of treatment!). I'm looking for another doctor. more

For endocrinology, my advice is to try someone else. 5/31/2007

Just my opinion, please try someone else. I gave him a good 2 years worth of tries, and I got sicker, overmedicated and he prescribed me antidepressants when it was all endocrine related. Poor bedside manners, always running late, and irritated/yelling patients almost daily. I recommend a different endocrinologist or naturalpath if you have thyroid or diabetic problems. I'm no doctor, just a patient. I am being honest and specific. Pros: Nice secretary/office desk lady Cons: Pretty much everything you can think of, spends 2 minutes instead of 15 with me more
