Eddie's Market of Charles Village

The Eddie's Market in Charles Village is a favorite for Hopkins Students who need to run a few quick errands. In addition to stocking a full line of groceries--produce to dairy to cleaning supplies--Eddie's also has a fabulous deli counter. They will make you a sandwich of your choosing, and you can pair it with any of a variety of prepared foods. They also make a mean cup of coffee, in case you don't want to pay cafe prices. Their groceries are a bit more expensive than usual, but again--for convenience, you can't beat it. more

Eddie's Market caters to two specific clientèle: college students without cars and the affluent Charles Village locals. Prices at this grocery store are pretty darn expensive when compared with nearby Giant and Superfresh. However, they have an impressive selection of gourmet goods, including fresh sushi, an extensive salad bar, and a fantastic deli. I think Eddie's best asset is their deli counter-- try the Smokin' Blue Jay turkey sandwich, and I guarantee you'll be satisfied. more

Eddie's Market might not be the cheapest grocery store in the Charles village area, but it definitely is one of the friendliest. Very convenient to the Johns Hopkins area, it serves everything from fresh crabcakes and sandwiches to a fine kosher offering. The cashiers are always nice and Eddie himself sometimes comes out to greet the shoppers. They also take J-Cash which is very nice for those BlueJay shoppers. Granted its a bit more expensive than the other grocery stores like Safeway and Superfresh, the extra cost is definitely worth it. more

Eddies is located very near to where I stay. Thats the reason I usually buy stuffs from here. Here the groceries are quite expensive that orther stores except if its on weekly specials. But since it is located in downtown and nearby there are no supermarkets they always have that + point. more

Living in Charles Village for a bit has given me a small taste of the area - its people, traditions, values, and ideas. The area is a very kind, close-knit one, where walking into any establishment always merits a hearty "Good morning/afternoon/evening!" - bars, restaurants, convenience stores, etc. Anywhere, it's a friendly atmosphere. I don't get the same feeling from Eddie's. Now I know that people in the Charles Village area enjoy Eddie's on the whole, but I get a certain distant feeling from it - the prices are higher than normal (a discount applies if you possess a Student Discount card), the sign on the front door asking for help says "Impeccable References Required", and the selection is very limited. But far be it for me to diss this store - for hard-to-find items, it has a great selection; and (living nearby) it's extremely convenient. Just make sure you have the discount card for a 10% discount, and be sure to shop around first - otherwise you could be charged a lot more than you'd enjoy. more

Eddie's Market is a good source for a wide variety of foods you wouldn't expect to be carried at normal supermarkets. From ethnic foods to vegetarian/vegan, they carry eccentric foods as well as the normal small market fare. The prices are not amazing, but given their location right next to Johns Hopkins University and the selection they provide, it's worth it to pay a little more. more
