Best

After reading several reviews online I was hesitant to go but decided it was in my best interest to go and make my own conclusion. Boy am I glad I did! We sat at the bar to enjoy...

Worst

Finding the Tip Top packed, my co-workers and I decided not to wait and to pop into Due Amici. We were seated right away. The food was excellent and the server was good; however...

Arrogant manager and avg. frozen food 11/8/2010

Went there for a business lunch, from the outside it looked nice. I knew we should have went to Tip Top instead. Anyways, I got there at 11:30am - the doors where open, but the woman in front wearing capri's and flip flops told me to leave because they're not open yet and rolled her eyes. The calamari was okay and definitely tasted frozen. My co-workers told me the place has always been overrated and surprised it's still opened for lunch. The wait staff wasn't the most attentive either, I think these people are rejects from the Olive Garden or something? more

There was glass in my food 10/29/2010

Finding the Tip Top packed, my co-workers and I decided not to wait and to pop into Due Amici. We were seated right away. The food was excellent and the server was good; however, when I bit into a piece of bread I had soaked in the olive oil mixture I felt a pain in my tooth. I removed the item from my mouth and found it to be a small chuck of glass. I alerted my server who asked if I was okay and I was so I did not complain. I was suprised that the manager did not come out to speak to me and even more suprised that I had to pay full price. I wonder if my co-workers and I swallowed more glass than I had found and if there was glass in other diner's food, as well. All in all, I think for as fine of a resturant that Due Amici thinks it is....they treat their customers very poorly. I love the food but after my experience yesterday, I doubt I will be going back! more

So-so food, lukeworm service, don't waste your time and $$ 6/12/2010

We have visited Due Amici several times and every time at the end we swear that this was the last time - NEVER AGAIN! Waiters are constantly forgetting to bring bread with oil from start, forget to change the silverware between the dishes; glass with wine has a floating piece of cork (we asked to bring a new glass, so when the new glass arrived it has still pieces of cork, smaller though. Use your imagination - somebody fished out a larger piece from the same glass and left the small pieces of cork) Pros: Good location Cons: management does not have any idea how to run this business more

Pretention and Prices Run High, Flavors and Service Do Not 11/17/2009

My partner and I were informed that Tip Top was doing brunch. Arriving at a quarter after 10am we found it was not open. Deciding not to wait we ventured next door to Due Amici, greeted by an enticing menu and open doors. We were the first to arrive, and were told that cocktails were available, however the kitchen would not open until 11am. Enjoying our pick of the floor we sat down and enjoyed some coffee, remiss of the dark roast from Cup 0' Joe (one of my favorites in town). Another two couples arrived and we were all asked for our orders so they would be ready as soon as the kitchen opened. As we waited for our food the highlight of the morning, the Cocktail Cart, came by to make us fresh, made to order Bloody Mary's. Both my husband and I got exactly what we wanted. Indeed, it was the best Bloody Mary I ever had. Not to mention the wonderful demeanor of our mobile bartender; she was cheerful and patient with us as we decided exactly how we wanted our morning libations prepared. This is where it started to go downhill. Our food, after having been the first to order (much less the first in the restaurant) was the third to arrive. I had ordered the smoked salmon, presented on an English muffin and topped with what was supposed to be fresh capers and mascarpone cheese, accompanied by their Insalata Mista (fresh greens, goat cheese, almonds and fresh berries). Oddly enough the mistake with the capers turned out to be the most tasty part of the meal. Instead of the fresh capers I received the pan fried capers that another menu item called for. The extreme saltiness was mellowed while a deliciously nutty flavor revealed itself via the frying. As for the rest: the salmon was of mediocre quality and quantity (try Einstein Bros. Bagels for the way lox should be done), the mascarpone cheese was virtually nonexistent, the greens were NOT fresh (spotty, at best), and the mixed berries turned out to be three small slices of very old strawberry, whose flavor and color had just started to turn. Did I mention the English muffin was cold and stale? My husband had ordered the Asparagus and Mushroom Frittata which claimed to contain Parmesan and Mozzarella cheese. With a generous helping of diced home fries (cut to small to effectively consume with a fork, use your spoon or a knife covered in ketchup instead) and another cold English muffin one would think you can't go wrong. Well, my first clue wash the garnishment; the same old strawberry that accompanied my Insalata Mista. The potatoes we tasty, despite their defiance to being eaten. The frittata, while warm, was thin and overcooked. While enduring the heat the oven (I can only assume the cook forgot about it) the baked omelet had lost much of its flavor. Again, cheese was nowhere to be found except in scant corners of the frittata (can you tell I like my cheese?). We had purchased the two brunch items and two cocktail items for $30 as a special. I ate less than half of my brunch and it was removed from our bill at $8. When we received our bill we were surprised to find our two coffees (which were admittedly kept full during our stay) totaled over $6. I'd much rather go to Cup O' Joe and spend less in a much more friendly environment. Now, I have no problem spending extra money for good food when its worth it, however this just wasn't. Next time we'll just wait for Tip Top, or go where we normally go, have never been disappointed, and spend half the money for twice as much food, German Village Cafe. Pros: Excellent Bloody Mary/Mimosa Cart Cons: Food, Service and Price more

Wonderful Experience, Great Food, Great Service 8/2/2008

After reading several reviews online I was hesitant to go but decided it was in my best interest to go and make my own conclusion. Boy am I glad I did! We sat at the bar to enjoy some wine before dinner and the bartender was wonderful and offered some suggestions. A perfect pinot grigio was served! Pros: Great food and service. Cons: Parking downtown is a always a con but they do have valet. more

Good Place, Doesn't Try too Hard 6/22/2007

It's refreshing to find a place like this in Columbus where the menu isn't trying too hard to be what it isn't and where the prices aren't doing the same as well. Good, creative food. They could take little bit more of a loss on the beverage cost, but good nonetheless. Pros: Ambiance, food, service. Cons: A little too much of a cafeteria feel, needs more nooks. more

Don't waste your time or money 8/6/2006

The service we received was poor from the beginning. We had to ask for the wine menu and the first bottle we ordered we were told the restaurant was out. We waited several minutes to place our order and I felt we had to wait far too long for bread to be brought to our table. Not once were we asked by our server of we would like more (cost cutting tactic?). Our meals were delivered by another Due Amici employee who made it very clear that she was not our server. We ordered 2 side salads which were not delivered and we were in need of a second bottle of wine. When our server did come back, he said that he would bring the salads out, but because we had already received our meals, the salads were no longer wanted. He said that he could have them boxed up, which seemed inappropriate as the greens would have wilted by the time they made it home. He then said he would have them removed from our bill. We also wanted to try a different bottle of wine and were not given the opportunity to do so. It was assumed that we wanted the same bottle as the first. When pouring the wine, he spilled some onto the table and I had some splashed onto my plate of pasta. He did not even acknowledge it or apologize for it. Not once did he visit our table after we began the meal. I would have liked to have had some fresh parmesan for my pasta (another Due Amici cost-cutting practice). After the meal, we ordered a dessert tray, coffees and a couple of espressos. We were then informed that the espresso machine was out of order. We were not offered and had to ask for refills on our coffee. We waited much too long for our bill and when we did get it, the salads were still on the tab. Throughout the entire meal, we got the impression from our server that we were unimportant and did not deserve better service. The poor service overshadowed the food. I expected a much higher level of service from Due Amici, and I was quite disappointed. Wrote to mgr and got no response whatsoever Pros: Great food Cons: Horrible service-Maybe try take-out?? more
