Recently moved to the area and am very picky about the doctors I stick with. I very much liked Dr. Joseph and will continue to go to his office. I am not sure what the previous review about Xanax etc. was about. I am having a rough time adjusting to the move and a friend recommended I ask for Xanax but I felt weird asking for it. Instead, I just described what was going on with me and he did NOT prescribe any sort of sedative style drug, but rather a similar SSRI to what I have taken in the past. more

Great Doctor and Staff 4/4/2012

I have been seeing Dr. Joseph for the past 10 years and he has always listened to what I have to say and sincerely cares about my well being. I believe the people who write negative reviews about Dr. Joseph or is staff have drug issues and don't know how to take medication the way it is prescribed. Dr. Joseph has made changes to my medications as deemed appropriate and has helped me a great deal. Take your meds as prescribed and you won't have a problem. more

Great DR 2/14/2012

I have been with Sonny Joseph going on 3 years now, and find him to be great. At first I quested how he diagnosed me by asking 15 min worth of question but he did. He worked with me for a year before finding the best meds for me. Follow up visits were just to assure all was well with my med. If all was going well and I had no questions the visit would be very short. If had questions or new problems we would talk for awhile talking about what was working and what was not working or was causing problems. He would listen to me and together we would make decisions on how to go forward. I would recommend him. NO i do not work for him more

Great Doctor 2/12/2012

Dr. Sonny is such a wonderful doctor. I've been going to him for a few years now and think he is so helpful. I usually never have to wait when in the doctor's office. His staff is very nice and polite. I am always able to get an appointment. Dr. Sonny is a great listener and has really helped me through my problems. more

Brilliant Doctor with an exceptional Staff 2/9/2012

I have been seeing Dr. Joseph for over four years now. Both he and his staff have been nothing but kind and understanding towards my needs. First of all, Dr. Joseph is a Harvard Graduate. Anyone who is truly experienced in their field IS able to assess a situation based on a few simple questions, observing behavioral traits. He is a true professional and a brilliant doctor. When my situations have changed he has changed medications as necessary, or adjusted the doses as needed. ANY prescription clearly states within the information pamphlets (and as anyone who has taken any kind of medication EVER) knows - ""If you notice certain changes consult with your doctor immediately."" Everyone's chemistry is different, so naturally each individual COULD have a different reaction. Secondly, the staff is wonderful. In an office that deals with the issues of the mind, they have been every bit of sensitive and compassionate to my situations. I've never seen them be anything but to each and every patient that's been there. I've been to physical therapy offices where plenty of the nurses have sorely lacked in those areas. Any kind of healing requires compassion, and they have it. Four years. And every time I leave the office it makes me realize how far I've come in that time, and that tiny bit of peace in an otherwise cruel world makes a HUGE difference in my life. They have all been a part of helping me sew it all back together, and for that I am truly grateful. more

This doctor should be shut down 12/22/2011

How dare you perscribe adderall and xanax to these young adults. This office should be shut down. You are a descrace to the medical practice. you are giving out perscribtion drugs left and right and getting theses young adults hook on drugs. Everyone is now talking about this office and what a shame of a doctor you are. Stop What you are doing now!!!!! Discrace!!! more

i have been treated by this doctor and my whole life fell apart his staff is very criminally corrupted pat or patty as she calls herself is the buffer she is very rude and malicouse she may need a shirink herself i believe that the 9 comments of five stars you see is the staff of the doctor there the ones writing all the comments you can tell just by the way they over do it with the comments the dr and pat should not only be invested gated by the attorney generals office and arrested for fruade malice intentions to the patients plase all patients call pam bondi the attorney general office as well as the medical board about all the abuse of this office a.s.a.p god bless you all more

Impressed! 1/3/2011

I was very impressed with Dr. Joseph's office, knowledge and the time he spent with me in his office. I did not feel rushed at all. I immediately felt like he knew what I was going through. He was kind and encouraging. I don't have health insurance but I felt it was money well spent. My friend is a nurse and she takes her son to Dr. Joseph and she referred him to me. I liked him very much and have no qualms about referring him to anyone. more

Recommend, But.... 11/4/2010

I do recommend Dr. Joseph as far as prescribing meds, but I have to agree with prev. patient that he only spends about 5 minutes with you and doesnt want to listen to what brought you there to begin with. He has a set of questions he asks, then takes you to the sample drug closet and hands you a script of what he thinks you should try. Just a very different way of practicing than I'd hoped for. more

I found a place you might be interested in Dr.Joe.on face book look up I reamember the hippies place city Island.All who have gone on the page have a history ther as well as myself.Before desrt storm and 911.I have prayed for 25 years hopeing to one day have a voice to share my experience.Again your the best always will be in my mind.I am very close with John Caropi better known as the priest who was scandlized in 2011.Since than I have nutured his wounde soul.God is Good.But can he follow my heart to city Iland Sunny Josph you know me .This day be blessed.Abd don`t be afraid to go on with the adventure of I was cynthis Frishes Dr .And? more

Fantastic Doctor 7/30/2010

Like I said in my comment to Awesome Doctor, Dr. Sonny Joseph is really great. He seemed to know exactly what it was I needed the very first time I went to see him. I don't understand all the bad reviews because he is a very nice and caring Doctor. I highly reccomend him. Beware of this doctor 5/18/2010

Dr. Joseph caused me to experience unnecessary suffering by not considering my overall health and other medications before taking me off Effexor. Many of his methods are questionable, and his recommended plan for weening [a patient] off strong drugs such as Effexor isn't consistent with commonly accepted practice. He generally spent less than 5 minutes with me on each visit, didn't appear to listen to my concerns, and changed my medications frequently. Needless to say, I will never go back to him, and could not recommend him in good conscience. more

AWESOME DOCTOR 2/7/2010

I do not understand some of the reviews i have read. It's like they are speaking about a monster. I have been going to Dr Joseph for several months. He has made my life so much better. He tried me on medications and worked on finding just the right combination for me for my bi-polar disorder. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him to anyone!! Dr Joseph truly cares about my issues and takes the time to hear me out. He knows just how to make my life better. I am soooooo thankful for Dr Joseph!!!! Great dealer 9/18/2009

Psychiatrists give you 'medication' scripts in 10 minutes or less, that's all they do anymore in this country, things used to be different. Its just another symptom of how diseased our health care system is. Anyway, no one should expect anything more from psychiatrists, if you need talk therapy not just some psychoactive substances and a 5 second diagnosis (which most everyone seeing a psych does) see a LSCW, psychologist, or the like. I guess the guy himself is fine if you take the profession of psychiatry for what it currently is. It is retarded and mind blowing that he makes so much money doing so little though. There's other less than legal professions where you get massive profits for getting people these thing...he's a glorified dealer. Oh and there are one or two (maybe more I was never able to be sure) massive a-holes on his office staff. You will be in awe of how rude, snappy and inconsiderate they can be. On the bright side I think the rude ones are pretty old and will be dead soon. Yay! Pros: Gets you your stuff fast Cons: Staff has some real jerks on it more

Horrible staff 5/15/2009

I called to make an appointment as a first time patient after my doctor recommended me to see someone. Having no experience with a psychiatrist I really just wanted information. When I asked what he specialized in the lady who answers the phone demanded that I know what I'm calling about already. I told her I wasn't sure, just a general visit with a psychiatrist would do, but she barked back something about how I need to have a specific reason to see the doctor. Isn't it the psychiatrists job to help diagnose me? Finally she put me on hold after arguing with me about which days I COULDN'T see the doctor, and I just hung up. I couldn't believe how rude this hag could be over the phone, but I guess I'm not surprised after reading the reviews here. I was nothing but polite to her the whole time, I wonder how bad the doctor is and I feel sorry for anyone who gets that far. Cons: Treated horribly before you walk in the door. more

5 minute speed diagnosis. 1/18/2009

This was my first visit to a psychiatrist. I just dont see how you can diagnose someone in five minutes with yes and no questions and prescribe them something that could really screw them up if the diagnosis is wrong. Whenever i started to elaborate on some of my answers, Sonny would cut me off with another question. Its sunday and i cant call to tell them im experiencing some terrible side effects and im afraid to stop taking the prescription without consult. He seems to be the psychiatrist that suburban housewives go to for a prescription to take the edge while handling a bunch of kids. Sonny is the opposite of Robin Williams from Good Will Hunting. Ice cold pill pusher. Pros: Speedy diagnoses and easy to get your hand on a prescription Cons: Speedy diagnoses and easy to get your hand on a prescription. Pretty sure thats dangerous more

Best Psychiatrist I have found for me. 9/23/2008

Dr. Joseph is fabulous . He is a caring very compassionate person with ability to recognize the patients problems, hopes, and dreams. He helps to save marriages and other family crisis. He should be recognized for all of this that he does. He is the reason I go to him rather than change or try other Dr's. more

I expected a whole lot more for a 1st visit... 4/23/2008

I picked Sonny Joseph simply because he was listed under my insurance plan's providers. From what I read online about what to expect on a first visit in general, I thought at the very least I'd be given a series of tests/analysis or at least an opportunity for in-depth discussion with feedback regarding my issue(s). I think I actually spent more time filling out the new patient paperwork and waiting in the reception area then I did with the Doctor. He did ask a few questions about why I was there as well as a few basic ""vitals"" related questions (allergies, medical history, etc...), but there was no real in-depth discussion and/or care plan discussed. What I left with was a referral to see a therapist, some med samples and basic instructions, and a follow-up visit scheduled for 10 days out, then a plan of one visit approx. every three months. Pros: decent location, friendly staff, not too bad of a wait Cons: Not thorough, meds with no lab work ordered, no care plan more

Worse doctor in Orlando 11/13/2007

I totally agree with the last review....people find true doctor who cares. If you want a REAL doctor then this is not the guy for you. He doesn't care at all about his patients...just asks if everything is okay and writes out a prescription. This doctor is nothing but a pill pusher....and should be judged as such. You get 5 minutes talking to him...oh and please don't question your treament. He doesn't have time to listen...so he will just tell you to find another doctor. I have never seen anything like it. The man cares about how many patients he can see in a 15 minute time frame...and the money in his pocket. He should be turned into the medical board. DON'T GO TO THIS MAN. Find a real doctor...who really cares for his patients Pros: If you want a pill pushing doctor then this is the guy Cons: Very tempermental...and likes to dump patients for questioning his ways more
