Dr. Reginald Barnes, Jr. MD (Ophthalmology)

Dr Barnes is an excellent doctor who genuinely cares for his patients. I have been his patient now for five years and he has been wonderful. His office has a very friendly and home-like atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. Dr Barnes does a very thorough eye check-up and also factors in other health issues to make his diagnosis. He is very personable and makes you feel comfortable. He goes out of his way to treat patients, even staying after office hours when I once needed an emergency procedure. It is indeed great to find such doctors who have their patients' well-being at heart, and not just the money. more

When I was looking for a new eye doctor after moving to the DC area I found one my insurance would cover who had good credentials and was not affiliated with one of the stores in the mall, hoping a private practice would mean higher quality. Dr. Barnes and his staff were highly unprofessional, forgot I had an appointment, and then when I finally saw him, he spent five minutes total with me before giving me a new prescription and trying to sell me on Lasik surgery, something I had already told his staff five times I was not interested in. Beware hidden fees for contact "fittings" and other various exams - all a mystery given the amount of time you spend with a doctor. Also, their office is located in the same building as a methadone clinic, which makes for interesting elevator rides and not the safest feeling when you're exiting the building. more
