Dr. Debbie Lee

I had a crown made by Dr Debbie Lee a few years ago; cost me over $5k out of pocket, and that's *after* the insurance paid it's part (around $3-4k). The main reason for that is that she told me I need some special work that insurance refused to pay, and in hindsight I'm 100% sure that it was completely unnecessary. Then after all that was done, she convinces me that we should do a checkup on my teeth, to get an idea what needs to be fixed; she found that 17 teeth need some work on them: old fillings need to be replaced, old crowns changed etc.; what convinced me that she is greedy crack who should be in prison, is that she tried to convince me that I should put expensive fillings on several perfectly healthy teeth, with the explanation "they will develop a caries if you don't put a filling". The cost estimate for all that was about 45 thousand dollars (insurance covering exactly 0% of it); needless to say now (almost 10 years later) none of those old fillings/crowns has anything wrong with them, and all those healthy teeth that she wanted to "fix" are still perfectly healthy. I generally don't leave reviews, but in this case I feel I had to make an exception, because after almost 10 years she still sends me spam emails, text messages, and her "advertising" people still call me after I have explicitly told them never to call me again under any circumstances. Honestly, this woman belongs in prison, not in a dentist's office. more

She may be solid in her expertise but so are a lot of dentists. Being warm and patient shouldn't be too much to ask and she is not that. Moreover, her fees are very much on the high end without apology or perhaps awareness that not everyone can drop 3k for a crown in a non-complicated scenario. I don't usually write reviews but the cost and the attitude surrounding it just got under my skin. more

I have to agree with Tikki P. While in NY, I saw Dr. Lee. I wish I had received a second opinion. She told me that I had to get fillings near my gum line for 8 of my teeth. 2 weeks later, they fell out and I had to go back to have them replaced. A bloody mouth later, and more pearly whites damaged permanently, they were replaced. After moving away from NY, I found a trustworthy dentist who told me that I never should have had the fillings done in the first place. But since they were done and leaking, I had to have them replaced again. I agree she has a great personality, but in retrospect, I wish I had sought a second opinion before agreeing to such invasive procedures that were very expensive! more

I have to agree- as a doctor myself Debbie Lee is one of the most professional smart kind clinicians I've met. She was referred to me through another clinician. Meticulous and passionate- (about teeth). I have always found her very pleasant and patient and when I have had pain- followed her advice and did great. I have referred her to a base of other doctors who also loved her. more

Normally I am not the person to write reviews however after reading tikki p's response I felt compelled to do so. I am a new patient to Dr. Lee and was referred by a friend that had been seeing her as a dentist for quite some time. I also found it convenient since I work on 57th and Lex. My opinion of Dr. Lee is that she is a "professionals" professional. She understands her clients and is very compassionate in their needs. This is evident as she even applies chap stick while she works on you making sure you lips do not get dry! She can be stringent to those who do not floss. In all the dentists I've seen in my life she definitely knows when you have not been flossing! She is definitely a great dentist. more

Let me start by saying I have never met a more charismatic and full of energy professional in the field of dentistry. I found Dr. Lee through a friend. In my line of work, efficiency is what pays the bill. She is extremely efficient and did an excellent job in replacing the front four crowns of my teeth. I loved her work so much I bring my entire family in just to see her. (I commute from Jersey) I would highly recommend seeing her if you would like a caring professional to do you dental work. more

I had been going to Dr. Lee for a little over a year as my general dentist. She runs her own “shop” by renting a space from other dentists. She seemed very reasonably priced for cavity fillings and I thought she was quick and efficient, but I later realized that "quickness" came with a hefty and painful penalty. I started to feel stabs of pain in my tooth post a filling. I followed up with Dr. Lee regarding the pain and she chided me and said the cause of the pain was gingivitis. She did a quick x-ray and scraping and said I should be fine. But the pain only grew after the 2nd visit, so I went for a second opinion. It turns out that Dr. Lee drilled a hole (for a cavity) that she did not fill properly (leaving gaps). My new dentist (there was no way I was going back to Dr. Lee after the rude way she dismissed my legitimate concerns) fixed the problem and called Dr. Lee to tell her what happened (I guess it's common courtesy between doctors). Dr. Lee later called me saying that if I came back (for the 3rd time), she would have figured it out. In the end, her lack of patience, detail and poor demeanor of rudely dismissing her patient's concerns cost her a client and my respect. I highly recommend you NOT go to her. more

My father found Dr. Lee when he was looking at a list of dentist who take our insurance. He liked her name. Five years later, the whole family sees her, and we look forward to our appointments. She's charismatic, interesting, and a great dentist. People are not afraid to tell Dr. Lee that they do not floss, and for the same reason, she can ease anxiety for even the most painful procedures. She's the best. more
