One word! 8/21/2010

Yummmmmmm! more

love dish!!! 7/26/2008

Dish is the best! I've been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and it has always been great. They have really cool drink specials and although it's not very well known, they also have a really cool wine list! I've been addicted to Dish for about a year and I go there at least once a week. When they get really busy sometimes, the service can be spotty, but they are always extremely nice and you can see that everyone is running around trying to get it all done. For any bad reviews out there, it must've just been a bad day! Make reservations just to be sure you get a table on those weekend mornings or you could wait a long time. Pros: Great american food, excellent value, great for families Cons: Location, can be loud sometimes more

Savory and special 7/4/2008

My husband and I dined at Dish last night, without having read the negative reviews -- and I'm glad or we might have missed out. I had a small ""Pog"" (guava, passion fruit and orange juice), which was like a non-alcoholic cocktail, very flavorful -- as well as a China Mist iced green tea, which was refreshing and my glass was always kept filled. We split the Ojai Chicken Salad, which was perfectly tossed and a delicious balance of citrus and greens. For the entree we split a boneless short ribs special, which was just amazing -- perfectly browned, tender, and savory. I got a side of their sweet potato fries, which were addictive! And, we finished it all off by sharing a moist and fluffy red velvet cupcake. The service was fast, if a little cold, but the waitress warmed up to us when we told her it was our first time there and that the food was delicious. (Sometimes you gotta give a little to get a lot in return.) I enthusiastically recommend Dish and can't wait to go back. Enjoy! Pros: Great food, variety, convenient parking Cons: Service was a little cold, but efficient more

Cozy up and order some comfort food 3/29/2008

I ate at Dish on Tuesday, Feb 5, 2008 on the way down the mountain after cross-country skiing. Since I?ve read some negative reviews here, I was concerned about trying out this restaurant. Our experience fortunately was completely positive. Upon walking through the front door, we were greeted warmly by the host. Without a wait, we were seated at one of the tables near the fireplace in the bar area. Our server, Louis, was friendly and professional. He was knowledgeable about the wines and the items on the dinner menu, making suggestions as to food and wine pairings. The food was very good - we ordered the sand dabs and the chicken pasta. Both were well prepared and satisfying and the quality was much in line with the reasonable prices. Additionally, the various wines by the glass were half price due to happy hour. The bread pudding was exceptionally good even though visually it didn't look like much. The DISH version is filled with apples and nuts. Order it a la mode and share an order. DISH is a down home, neighborhood restaurant serving comfort food at affordable prices in a pleasant, inviting environment. We'll definitely return the next time we're in the area. more

Just not as good as it used to be 3/3/2008

We have been going to Dish since it opened. It was really good food the first three years or so, and then it started to decline. The orders take a long time to come out and then the taste falls flat. The menu makes things sound great ( the garlic burger) it was very bland and I was disapointed as I thought with a new chef/ partner and menu, it would have improved. I used to love this place for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Iv'e tried all three lately and was unhappy all three times. I even E-mailed them with my opinion, and heard nothing back. more

TERRIBLE 1/26/2008

If you go to many restaurants and know good food, you will cry after you eat food from here. I went there for brunch, and ordered some kind of dish with vegetables and chicken. The chicken was boiled and absolutely no spice on it. so it was just a piece of boiled chicken and boiled 2 sticks of carrots. thats all. they also didnt bring the right order out for my friend and after 40 minutes, they finally decided to bring out the eggs (i dont know how long it takes them to make eggs, but maybe there is a culinary school in the back and no one knows what they are doing). the decor is ok if you are into ""grandma's house we go"" style. \r \r SO! If you enjoy eating a piece of wood or tree leaves, go here. Cons: food more

AWFUL - all caps!! 1/19/2008

How all these reviewers can rate this horrible excuse for a restaurant..? Makes me wonder if I should trust any reviews on Citysearch. This was by far the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. The decor is like - well, like a gymnasium crossed with a cafeteria maybe. The service is like - the owners kids or nieces and nephews or anyone just thrown in there to work. Go ahead, ask them what kind of ""butter"" they use. I dare you. The food is indescribable. I hate wasting my stomach on food like this. Cons: everything else more

Awesome breakfast and service 1/1/2008

We went there today for New Year's Day brunch. We got there at around 1:30pm and happily discovered that they although they weren't serving from the full breakfast menu, they still serve from their limited breakfast menu all day. This was perfect since I wanted breakfast food and my parents and husband wanted lunch. All the food was really good and the service was excellent. My parents are vegetarian and didn't see anything on the menu they really liked, so they asked the waitress if she could make a special sandwich for them with the veggies and cheese they wanted. She gladly did it and my parents said the sandwich was great! It even came with french fries. I had the sourdough french toast and my husband had the grilled pepper and goat cheese sandwich. We also ordered the sweet potato fries...everything was really good! My 1 year old son went and had food from the kids menu. The atmosphere is very cozy and both main seating areas have fireplaces that were going. Ample parking too...they have a lot. We were very happy with the place and will definitely go back. Bonus: there is a pinkberry two stores down. Pros: Affordable pricing, good food, good ambience, kid-friendly, great service, parking more

Horrible service 11/26/2007

I was out and looking for a great place to have dinner when a friend of mine said she had heard about this place named Dish in La Canada, we decided to go since it was close by. There were three of us and we were seated promptly, none of the staff spoke with us someone came and brought us water and bread and never came back. I noticed while sitting there waiting for our waiter/waitress that another party came in and were seated in our section, they were then asked what they would like to drink were also given water and bread. As I sat there thinking this was not really happening their waitress went to their table and proceeded to take their order. Meanwhile the manager was at the next booth talking with customers turned and saw us and quickly went to the back. We needless to say decided to leave and do not plan on returning. The service what little we got was horrible. Cons: really bad service more

Great Breakfast, Good Value, Good Atmosphere, All Around Good Experience 8/17/2007

Dish is a very nice restuarant. The atmosphere is nice and the breakfast was very good (especially if you use the coupon). The service was pleasant, courteous, and professional but a little slow.\r \r I would definitely go back again. Pros: Price, Breakfast, Service more

A total dining pleasure! 5/24/2007

Dish is such a great place for friends and family. I've been there more times than I can remember! Their atmosphere is truly pleasant and comfortable, not cheesy, flashy or drowning in nick nacks. It's the kind of place that you walk in and almost forget that you're anywhere near LA. =) And the service is wonderful...their staff is geniune and attentive. But the best part of all is the AMAZING food. Their creativity is such a breath of fresh air! You can eat a great quality meal for a totally reasonable price. It's definitely a place that you can't wait to bring someone else to. Pros: Great food, service and atmosphere! Cons: I wish there was one closer to me. more

Great place to make a habit! 5/19/2007

Great place to make a habit! A table at Dish Restaurant is the only ticket you need to get that fun family dining feeling. We have been here about 8 times now. The menu isn?t what you'd expect . We have never seen a restaurant with so many different choices and the soda selection is the best! Dish is just the sort of place that could become a habit. This is a restaurant that serves excellent food and has great service. They serve the most succulent pulled pork you have ever eaten; it melts in your mouth and for breakfast, great too. We have never had a bad meal here. Their salads are also a favorite. This place still has a certain ""throwback charm"" that most high-end restaurants lack nowadays. The food is extremely well prepared and actually hot! The staff is always attentive to our requests. Just an all around favorite of ours and anyone else we have introduced it to. The people there are friendly and the service is excellent. The selection and quality of the food makes it our favorite spot to visit and take friends. Highly recommended. Pros: Service & Food Choices Cons: not close enough to home more

Terrible service, terrible management, cold food 4/23/2007

We had virtually the same experience as the most recent poster. We waited about 20 minutes for anyone to come take our drink orders, and the server didn't even respond when we brought that up as a concern - no apology, just ""yeah, so what would you like?"". Our food took forever to come. The toast came out 5 minutes before anything else. Almost everything else came out together, but they forgot one person's entire meal and some sides. Half of the order was cold upon arrival. The french toast was awful. We spoke to one manager who promised to do something about the problem and promptly vanished into the kitchen, never to be seen again. The second manager had to be summoned twice to deal with the situation and ended up offering an employee discount on the meal, which by that point seemed not nearly enough for the aggravation. Clearly this is a place with major service issues... and the food isn't really very good anyway. What a waste of a brunch slot. Pros: Can't think of a single thing. Cons: Terrible service, terrible management. more

Terrible customer service 4/3/2007

Horrible customer service! We put our name on the waiting list and kept checking back with the hostess, who claimed she was on top of it. We were skipped over several times, and were left waiting for nearly an hour before we checked with them again. Neither the hostess or any of the the employees ever offered an apology for their mistake! Worst worst service ever!! Do not dine there. Food is mediocre at best. Cons: service and staff more

GREAT FAMILY ENVIRONMENT AREA AND DATING AREA, TOO! 1/11/2007

OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS LOVE DISH! Charming family environment, perfect to bring the whole family. We've always experienced the best and very professional-welcoming staff, which makes everybody feel welcomed and the most un-usual fact @ breakfast restaurants: having a very personalized service from \r Mr. Finch, himself!\r Exquisite cuisine, detailed in flavours although not extravagant but with a unique ""homey"" touch.\r Perfect to meet with potential clients for lunch, to escape from the family and have a fun-occasional date, watch the games @ the bar or have a glass of wine or a crazy powerful mai-tai! by the fireplace!!!!!\r Highly recommended! Pros: You can either have a casual family meal or a business lunch Cons: Should expand facility to accommodate more of us! more

Dish is the best food within 50 miles. Can't beat price, quality or friendly service. 12/20/2006

Forget the crowds in Pasadena or the bad parking in Glendale, this is the best place within 50 miles! They are open all day, every day and it's hard to pick the best meal. Breakfast is amazing. They serve seasonal pancakes like pumpkin with cinnamon cream during the holidays or fresh blueberry in the summer.\r Lunch has the best burger you'll find in LA with regular or sweet potato fries, yum. Salads are fresh and never boring, desserts are all made there and taste like your grandma made em. Dinner isn't crowded and they have a full bar with fun drinks lilke organic kumquat martinis, fresh fish, reasonably priced steaks and garlic mashed potatos I still dream about. Just GO... Pros: Value, freshness, service Cons: Watch out for Sunday morning, Church crowd makes it really busy more

Great Breakfast 10/29/2006

Be sure to make reservations because it gets real busy on the weekend. Great food. Great service. Great Price. Pros: Great prices and food Cons: Had to wait first time. Made Reservation next time. more

Great dinner, great prices! 9/21/2006

Some friends and I had dinner recently and including drinks, the bill was a lot lower than I expected. I had the brisket of beef, which was very tender and had great flavor. My friends also enjoyed their meal and their special drink of the night was deliciously unique. I would defintely go back again. Pros: Service, food more

Great breakfast - and a toaster on your table! 3/10/2006

Breakfast here is very good, though it finishes a little early on Sundays. If you get one of the window tables in the main room you'll get a toaster on your table, so no more cold soggy toast! Have also tried dinner and lunch here, the salads are really good, try the Cobb or the Ojai Chicken. Good wholesome food in the evenings, short ribs with mash and veg, or pork chops are my favorites, though there are plenty of other varied dishes to choose from. The bar is also good though it can get a bit noisy, but they do have a Happy Hour from 5 to 7 with drinks at half price. Friendly hostesses will seat you, but be prepared to wait (>20mins) if you are going for a weekend breakfast. Pros: Parking, Bar, Breakfast Cons: Atmosphere more
