going down !!! 8/3/2010

What the hell happened to this place..?? This used to be the best restaurant in south Beach a real treat an example for other restaurants. But they changed the menu. God knows why?? They made it a lot smaller there only about 10 items left. And there where so many good !! dishes on the old menu ! We had some pasta which was like the same as a cheap take out. Even the wine menu and dessert menu became a lot smaller. The only good thing was our waiter, the service was still super. I think it's a real shame for a restaurant like this. It was always packed and gave you a special feeling but the place was almost empty, and gave us a sour taste in our mouth. I hope that will be an eye opener for the management / owner Please give us back the old DeVito where you didn't mind to wait in line for a table !!! Leni more

Used to be my Favorite 8/3/2010

Going to De Vito's since they open the Doors we never had a bad Dinner there the Kitchen was superb and it was one of my Favorite Restaurants in Miami. But that was the past !!! since they changed the Chef the Menu is a Joke for a Classy place like De Vito's, all my Favorites are gone and replaced with a ridicules assortment BS dishes my 17 year Old Son can pull up in his first year of Culinary School . If you Guys read this Please get your things Together, we used to Love your Place and like to see it back to old Glory and not closing the Doors for Good . Philippe more

NEW MENU, NEW CHEF=SAVE YOUR MONEY 7/9/2010

Devito's was one of the top five places in south beach easily...up until they changed their menu and chef. The new menu is limited (probably 20 items) and is bland. The menu used to be robust, full of steaks, chops, many pastas, and countless items to meet anyones desires. The veal chop used to be the best. Then the management brought in a new "iron chef" and butchered the menu along with the chances of sustaining themselves in south beach. For anyone looking for a good italian, I would suggest prime italian right down the street-devitos is no longer somewhere I would recomend. Pros: NICE ATMOSPHERE Cons: RUINED WHAT WAS THE BEST PLACE IN SOBE more

This is the perfect place to go for wine and appetizers!! My girlfiends and I love this place for just that. Reserve a patio table and you can have a blast!!! There are so many good things on the menu, but the Kobe Carpaccio is OMG!!! Great food, great service, great location!! Try it sometime Pros: Kobe Carpaccio more

Great new lunch spot 6/9/2009

I have been to Devito's for dinner many times, but was surprised to see they opened up for lunch. Not really knowing what to expect I brought some clients there and was happy with what I found. The sandwiches were great, and as always the apps and salads never disappoint. The food was really good & my clients enjoyed it. It was perfect for a nice meal without going over the top. Impressive!! Pros: Good lunch menu more

Excellent experience 6/9/2009

I went here with a date and was blown away. Very upscale, professional service, and food that was really something special. We shared the Kobe Flight, which was one of the coolest dishes I have ever been served in a restaurant. And the chocolate dessert was equally impressive. Too bad my date didn't compare, at least he had good taste ;-) Pros: delicious food Cons: busy on weekend more

best kobe in miami 1/28/2009

The Devito south beach is a modern uptown restaurant co-owned by danny devito. This italian restaurant specializes in traditionals and they also have great steak. the kobe beef costs 29 per ounce but is every penny worth it. Pros: kobe beef Cons: ?nothing more

Decent food, HORRIBLE service 1/21/2009

I've heard of Devito's b4 and have been to Miami a few times. It's regarded as one of the fancier places and I thought I'd try it out on this trip. The Decor is nice and the food was decent, but the service is atrocious. We sat outside and it was one of the colder nights in Miami so it was around 55 degrees so all of the long wait times were made worse by having to wait in the cold. It took a long time for the waiter to take our order, we couldn't figure out who the waiter was cuz a different person kept coming back every time. We ordered 2 diet cokes, one diet coke arrived after the appetizer was done, the 2nd arrived about 5 later. Entrees came soon after. No one came by to ask about our food except for the manager after the appetizer and at that point it was still too early to tell so we said everything is fine. After finishing the entrees it took like 15 mins to get a waiter over to our table to clear it. We ordered desserts earlier in the meal and after the entrees they just brought dessert and disappeared. didn't ask how the food was, didnt give us a chance to order coffee with our dessert. Upon receiving the check they included an 18% gratuity before taxes. I'm used to leaving a nice gratuity especially in a nice place, but usually for parties of 6 or more is it mandatory. Our service sucked and i didnt think 18% was warranted, when i asked to speak to the manager it took him 15 mins to get to our table and then he proceeded to lecture me on customary tipping and included gratuities in the miami area. I proceeded to explain to him that the service sucked and where as b4 speaking to him and receiving the bill i was willing to leave a 5-10% tip, i was at that point only willing to pay for food and that's it. Nice places tend to try to fix mistakes and make people want to come back rather than lecturing customers. HORRIBLE service, mediocre food, DEFINITELY not worth the money. Cons: Service SUX more

REAL POWER DINING IN MIAMI BEACH 12/26/2008

was at first reluctant to dine at Devito because of the mixed rap given to it by a few reviews, but after I had my first experience there, I was able to quickly discern the truth about this restaurant and separate it from the apparent bitterness about the price of world class dining. Cynics will always abound, but this place is the real deal. The nearly universally acclaimed (i say universally because some deranged writer called it a sports bar because of her lack of exposure to anything else) design of the restaurant speaks volumes about the care an detail of the establishment. The service was exquisite and the general manager treated my party like we were movie stars. The steak is by far the best I've (including top of the line steakhouses like STK, Peter Luger, BLT Prime) and truly debunked the myth that I had stuck in my head that Prime 112 was the premiere Miami steakhouse. From the extravagant pre-appetizer including chunks of complimentary parmesan reggiano cheese, imported salume, and stuffed pepers all the way to the chocolate flight and san gennaro festival dessert, the dining experience was near perfect. I didn't have the pasta (rumored to be the only brand consumed by the pope) myself, but my wife (who is jewish) never felt closer to the vatican lol. To be able to have a place to get incredible prime Chicago stockyards served on beautiful, sizzling hot skillets along with the best Italian food on the beach is simply mind boggling Devito surely casts aside the stigma attached to celebrity restaurants and intimidates its competitors out of the water. Devito's success on strip south of fifth is simply revolutionary as evidenced by the fact that many others have tried to imitate its mastery of the Italian chophouse concept and have failed/are failing. keep up whatever your'e doing! Pros: 5 THUMBS UP Cons: I don't live in miami more

BEST STEAK AND ITALIAN IN MIAMI PERIOD! 12/22/2008

simply a beautiful restaurant where the staff really cares about your experience.. The food by Chef Manfra was cooler than mama could make.. The wine list has great italians on it too .. decor and celeb scene was interesting and magnificent... We were sat next to Anna K and D. Wade.. Pros: solid food, beautiful design, warm place, great service, excellent outside Cons: hostess's indifferent, more

Bad Experience 10/20/2008

If dining at this restaurant, be sure to request downstairs seating. My husband and I had drinks at the bar prior to dinner and were enjoying the busy Sobe scene, but the hostess then brought us to the upstairs dining room which was dead empty on a Friday night. The appetizers were served so quickly they couldn't have been freshly prepared and our dinner arrived right after our apps were cleared. Now maybe some people would enjoy the quick service, but we were very unhappy with a dinner that lasted under an hour and cost $450. The food was ok at best, but we would not dine at this restaurant again nor recommend to others. Pros: busy scene downstairs Cons: dead empty upstairs more

HOT! 9/23/2008

What can i say, this is a great place for any occasion. A pit pricey however but the service and food are worth it. Pros: Ambience, service, decoration, food, etc..... Cons: $$$$ more

Worst Restaurant for the price 4/20/2008

We went to this restaurant for a birthday. We knew it would be pricey and that was fine. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was rude. We asked for about 2-3 minutes to decide what we wanted to eat. He left and did not return for about 25 minutes. Then, when the food did arrive, the chicken was pink. The manager asked how was everything and we told him about the chicken. He took the chicken to the kitchen and had a server bring back the chicken that our guest had already began eating! Then, we asked for dessert menus--that took another 20 minutes. When dessert arrived they didn't bring any spoons, and when we asked for spoons they acted as if we were annoying them. In my opinion, for the low quality of service, and food you are better off going to Pilar, P F Changs, or an American chain. I think that for over $400 we expected good service and great food! Don't do it!!! Cons: Parking, Music was loud, Food, Service more

ANOTHER GREAT DAVID MANERO RESTAURANT IS BORN! 4/5/2008

I have been a fan of David Manero restaurants for many years now..each one seems to out do the next..Teaming up with Danny Devito in South beach is quite the event for top dining spot in Miami.... My Prime New York Strip was to die for as was my girlfreind's authentic Pope's pasta (yes the only one served at the vatican to numero uno as the menu states)...Service is perfection and the restaurant design is almighty... Manero's Vic & Angelos restaurants are also my favorites...Can't wait for the new Delray Beach one to open on Atlantic Avenue.. I can taste the coal oven pizza now.. We will be back to Devito over and over..YUMMY! Pros: great oudoor dining and people watching/ Top Food and Service Cons: hope it doesn't rain much this summer more

Maybe the Best Restaurant on the Planet 3/23/2008

SImply stated , I enjoyed everything from start to beginning and I was treated right.. Don't miss the lobster bernaise on your steak...or the delicious sides. Thank 's Danny.. Pros: top steakhouse / Italian Cons: I live 30 miles away more

BEST PRIME CHOPHOUSE IN FLORIDA MAYBE ANYWHERE! 3/21/2008

I just loved the restaurant on all levels, the service was super, food outrageous and the ambiance was smoking hot. Kobe steak, Prime Steak Maine Lobsters, and the best pasta and veal on the peninsula.. I'll be back! Pros: the best Cons: none more

GREAT RESTAURANT! 3/11/2008

I'm not sure what all of these reviewers are talking about, my opinion of DeVito SB is fantastic! Iam a frequent South Beacher and I have eaten at DeVito numerous times and every time has been fabulous. The Veal is Superb and the lobster Risotto is incredible! Great Cheese! They have a great wine list and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine. Maybe these reviews are from people who don't frequent South Beach and don't understand that the party gets started after 9pm so if you want to eat in an empty restaurant you should make a reservation for 7pm and if you want to be part of the hustle and bustle of the party crowd then you have to wait until 9 or 10pm. Also, South Beach is NOT CHEAP, this is Miami, not Des Moines, everything is expensive in South Beach. But the huge portions are worth the price and the wait. Be patient, have a drink at the bar if your table isn't ready, don't make a reservation here if you have to be in and out in 1 hour, b/c its not going to happen. DeVito is a restaurant meant to be enjoyed. My opinion is that this is a great place to eat with fantastic food and fun atmosphere. Pros: Huge portions of great food Cons: don't forget to specify if you want inside or out. more

The food at Devito's is just NOT good....regardless of price. 3/3/2008

We were excited to try Devito's on Saturday Night but unfortunately we were met with utter disappointment. I knew the meal was going to be overpriced...and that is fine as long as the food is well prepared, flavorful and top notch. We found the food to average at best and to be honest with you ...this restaurant is all hype and show with very little substance. Our meal cost $250.00 and food was just NOT good...It was less than average. We ordered the following: Meatball (this 10oz meatball for $18 should have been the best meatball of my life or at least in the top 5. The center of the meatball was severely undercooked and mooshy in the center. I wouldn't serve my kids this meatball. Crispy Calamari Duo ( this was not bad but it was average at best. The calamari was chewy and not tender...the sauce was lacking flavor. You can get better calamari and most raw bars or restaurant chains) Minestrone (This was good...not great) Pennoni (basic pasta dish lacking flavor ...you can find a better pasta dish at any local pizzaria) Fruiti Di Mar (This seafood over pasta dish was also sub-par. The seafood was NOT particularly fresh and the sauce was as plain as a jar of tomato puree. ) Regardless of price I would NEVER eat at Devito' again. We eat at fine restaurants every weekend in South Florida and this is probably one of the worst meals we have had in a long time. ...we were very excited to eat hear but was very disappointed when we left. We could not recommend anyone wasting their time or money on this restaurant that is all marketing a no substance. We will stick to our regular Italian stop - Anthony's Runway 84 in Ft. Lauderdale. Pros: Nicely decorated Cons: Food is NOT good, Price, Cigar Smokers outside eating area more

Good food for an Arm & a Leg 2/20/2008

Shame on me for not looking at the menu before making a reservation. Beware it will cost you $200. per person with one drink and a bottle of water. The food is good, slightly above average. The staff and has their nose so high in the air they can't see the expression on the diners face when they look at the prices on the menu. (A shame because it kept me entertained) I'm from NYC and used to getting ripped off, but this is over the top. The staff is as snooty as Nobu, without the goods to back it up. Sorry Danny, this won't do it for me anymore. Pros: Slightly above average food Cons: It will empty your bank account more

nothing positive to say 2/18/2008

From the moment we arrived at the front desk there were problems: I'd made a reservation two weeks in advance for 7 pm having been told that was our only choice because they were all booked up. Imagine my surprise when we were taken up to the second floor and found ourselves the only couple in the room. Part of the SB experience is the crowd and despite my requests to move tables downstairs, they refused. By the way we were a lovely and attractive mother and daughter and unless they're biased in favor of loud and unattractive people, I saw no reason for us to be seated alone for 75% of the evening. the man at the front desk with the earphone had a huge attitude and I'd have him replaced immediately. As I said to him, you never know who people are so be very careful how you treat them. The food is all over the place -- a very poor Prime 112 imitation. They're extremely heavy with the salt shaker and nothing really was that good. The attitude really colored the evening and I would never go back Pros: easy to walk to in SB Cons: not good food and too much attitude more
