It's nice to have an aquarium in land-locked Colorado, of course, but not sure it's worth the admission price. With all the other things to do in Denver, the Front Range, and the mountains, would pass on this one. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/26/2012

VERY disappointed! We reserved a 50 year old birthday party there for a semi private area two weeks in advanced. When we arrived they had given the room to another party who purchased a $25.00 membership. They never called us to let us know, and proceeded to seat us at the worst place possible, near a wall where you couldn't even see the fish. We had out of town guest too. We?ll never go again. more

Aquarium Restaurant is so-so 8/2/2010

I am not able to review the Aquarium itself since we just stopped in for lunch at the Aquarium Restaurant. The food selection was good, though overpriced for sure. However, the food was so so at best. Grilled chicken was burned and the sandwich just fell apart. The kids ""mac and cheese"" was literally mac and cheese out of the box, gooey and bright yellow - not appetizing whatsoever and the price for that is ridiculous. The hostess wouldn't let us sit at a table by the fish tank, stating those were for ""reservations"" even though tons of those tables remained empty during the entire time we were there. What kind of customer service is that??? The floors were dirty and had trash on them. The bathrooms (located outside the restaurant) were dirty and dingy. Pros: Pretty decorations, beautiful fish tank Cons: So-so food, dirty floors/bathrooms more

The website is horrible 8/6/2009

There really isn't alot of information to help you decide if that is really where you want to visit or not. Pros: Has hours of operation Cons: Not much information is provided more

A wonderful, educational experience! Hurray for fishes! 2/20/2009

Although it is true you have to pay for parking and it costs about $15 per person to get into Ocean World, I truely believe it is worth it. I imagine it is not as easy to upkeep an oceanic aquarium in a landlocked state, a mile above sea level, as it is in states such as Texas and California with their miles and miles of coast. The aquarium is a valuable asset for education and also for enjoyment. I spent several hours gazing at the amazing array of fishes that are housed at Ocean world. I was also able to pet some delta rays. The otters are adorable and have a nice tank that lets you see them very well and quite close. The tigers are just beautiful. The pamphlet you are given is not incredibly in-depth, but the aquarium staff is very friendly and knowledgable. If you have questions about any of the displays, they are there to provide you with lots of information. I have never eaten at the restraunt, so I have no comment on the food. Once again, I feel that the Ocean World experience and its value to the state make it well worth the price of admission. Pros: Great variety of life to look at and learn from. Cons: You will enjoy yourself most if you like fishes and learning. more

Great for the Kids 10/7/2008

Took my 6 yr old daughter to the Denver Aquarium and we had a ball. All the different environments were a treat. Loved the underground cave with the benches for a break. The tiger show was great too. Try and go when you have a chance to pet the rays at the end! Pros: Diverse environments Cons: A little pricey more

Don't Go To The Restaurant 9/6/2008

Terrible, terrible, terrible food. The service was good but who wants to eat seafood (that is all they have on the menu come to find out) after looking at all these beautiful water animals. The food is terrible and it's overpriced. Pros: The aquarium itself is nice Cons: The restaurant is terrible more

A nice day out 3/12/2008

I have been to several aquariums over the years and the Denver Downtown Aquarium compares favorably. The Aquarium is well layed out, with a nice flow and story in between the displays. Each of the displays had a nice information placard so you knew what you were looking at, but not so much information that you stopped reading. We took our infant son (he is 8 months old) and he had a good time looking at all of the different fish. There were lots, and lots of families! I would recommend not bringing a stroller. Things were a bit crowded and it was hard to maneuver the stroller. We carried our son so he could see all of the displays (kids can't see too much from the stroller). There is a nice looking restaurant with a great view of a huge aquarium. We didn't eat there but it looked like a nice place to spend some time watching some more fish. Pros: Good displays, lots of fish Cons: A bit crowded in some parts more

Feel Like a Kid Again 3/22/2007

I went to the Aquarium on a Friday night and had an incredible time. I ended up running around like a little kid and saying, ""Look at that! Look at that!"" every thirty seconds or so. The displays are awesome, the tanks are ample (so the fish look happy in there), and I love that they are open late. A few reviewers have complained about the price, but it is only $9.95 a person after 6:00pm (not much more than the Denver Zoo), and you still have 4 or 5 hours to enjoy the aquarium. Maybe people who have been to places like SeaWorld think the aquarium is bad and not worth the price, but I loved it and had a great time. I can't wait to try the restaurant! Pros: is open late (great for dates!), has exciting wildlife and good facilities for them, has hands-on exhibits Cons: Daytime price is a little much, it's sometimes crowded, and you have to pay for parking more

Great Experience 7/31/2006

The Denver Aquarium is a great place to take your children. Although a bit pricey, it is a fabulous experience. We took fourteen children in March, and I am going again soon, plus a third time in September. Very well worth the time. And I agree that people probably do expect it to be like Sea World, but it's Colorado, This is not a place for something like that. Pros: Great learning experience Cons: Restaurant is expensive more

Poor.. at best 3/22/2006

I first of all had to pay for parking in a lot that i had to walk about a half a mile to get to the entrance.Second, I had to pay a ridiculous entrance fee of 60.00 (yes, sixty dollars) for myself and my three kids (ages 15,10, and 8).I could have gone somewhere else for that sixty dollars and gotten something that would have been worth my while. (Had it been half as much, it would have been twice as good). Lastly,I was disapointed at the displays. We were done in 2 hours. We wont be back. Pros: poor displays, gift shop was bigger , cant afford prices Cons: pay parking, too expensive, duh more

The Good and the Bad 4/1/2003

Ocean Journey is great, the fish and other aquatic animals you see are fantastic. The ""flyer"" they give you, however leaves much to be desired. Instead of having signs that identify the fish in the tank, they give you this booklet, which didn't identify any of the fish I couldn't. It also is VERY EXPENSIVE, $6.00 for parking, $14.95 for adults, which for a zoo sized aquarium I would pay for, but this is a very SMALL facility, very over priced. It was however a very well done aquarium. Pros: Cool layout, Different fish Cons: EXPENSIVE, SMALL, Crowded more

Great experiences for all!!! 9/19/2002

I love Ocean Journey. I was very upset when they talked about closing it. It's very educational and entertaining. What really bothers me is that people criticized it beacause it was too expensive for what it was. But really and truthfully I think people expected it to be another Sea World experience and it wasn't. No it's not showy, no there aren't dolphins jumping through the air , but it's great for children who live inland to be able to experience the ways of the ocean and it's animal life. It explains ecosystems and other things that you would never be able to teach unless you went to visit it in it's natural inviroment. People really need to have better apprecation for Ocean Journey and all it has brought to Colorado! I would recommend everyone to go at least once! more

COOL 8/9/2002

we loved it, and we hope to come back, next time we will bring our family! Pros: cool animals, nice facilities, nice people more

Ripe off 8/8/2002

I think that Ocean Journey is a huge rip off! It is small but their gift shop sure does take up most of the space. I was very dissapointed with it. more
