Very disappointing 10/16/2011

Horrible experience this morning trying to visit that miserable place. A very important-looking guy with a note pad and a pen standing at the entrance took down our names and said the wait time would be about 20-25 minutes. After a 50-minute wait in the wind and cold and about 3 inquiries later we were finally kindly led to... a couple of miserable bar stools, right at the entry door (yes, a lovely chance for some more wind and cold!). When we said we'd rather have a table, we were waved out by the important-looking-guy and found ourselves behind the diner doors once again. At that point, we chose to leave. It's a shame that people are treated like that, it's not difficult to give more realistic waiting times to your customers or inquire about their seating preferences. Get your act together, Town diner, this is brunch, not rocket science (even if you have a pen and a note pad). more

Delicious 2/24/2010

I will start by admitting that I am not a diner connoisseur. However, I honestly love this place. I go here for brunch with one of my close friends every Sunday around 11, and have never ordered anything that I did not like. They may be on the expensive side compared to other diners nearby, but they make up for it with the portions and relative taste quality. They make excellent pancakes, and their eggs benedict are also good. My favorite thing on the menu though, is their blintzes. They are delicious, and up until recently, have always ordered at least one with whatever else I order. My new project is to try all of their varieties of pancakes, but to make sure that I have something I like (not that I think I won't like them, but just to be safe), I order their Deluxe Colossal Hungry Person Special. It's somewhere around $11-12, but it comes with 2 pancakes (or French toast), 2 eggs any style, your choice of breakfast meat, homefries, toast, and unlimited coffee. If you are either very hungry, or want to try something but have a backup plan, I highly recommend this dish. The only specific con is the wait for brunch. They don't take reservations, and the wait can back up, especially on holiday weekends. For Valentine's Day, we ended up waiting roughly an hour. Also, no matter what the wait actually ends up being, they tell me that the wait will be 20-25 minutes. The actual wait times have varied from ~15 minutes to 1 hour (only on Valentine's Day so far). It usually is about a 20 minute wait (at 11 am), but occasionally they are a bit off. It still is definitely worth the wait in my mind. Pros: Delicious food, authentic diner feel, friendly service Cons: Long wait for weekend brunch more

Our favorite diner, hands down 3/11/2009

So many vegetarian options, and they are all good. I love the Florentine eggs for breakfast. The 1/2 roast chicken is a good dinner choice, as is the fish. All side vegetables have been decent or good. Wait staff is friendly. Another recommendation: chocolate chip pancakes (huge serving!), chocolate frappe, challah french toast. Pros: All the breakfast items, prompt service, kid-friendly choice Cons: Very long lines Sunday morning more

Went from best to worst....what happened?? 3/9/2009

This past weekend I promised my kids the best pancake breakfast ever!! Well, it didnt quite turn out that way. Half way through my pancake I found a slimy green thing on my plate. Seconds later my daughter found and even bigger, green slug like thing on her plate. We took a peek inside the maple syrup dispenser and found a jar full of slimy green mold growing. YUCK!!!! As we were sitting there gaging the owner came over to ask us if we were done eating. We showed him the problem and he took out playes away. At least five minutes went by before our waitress came over to ask us if we would like to order something else instead.... our answer was of course no thank you. The bill came and the waitress informed us that they did not charge us for the pancakes. They did however charge us for the side dishes and bevorages that we obviously had no stomach to continue eating. Pros: Used to be real good.....espescially the pancakes. Cons: cleanliness, customer service more

HORRIBLE! 11/24/2008

This place was horrible!! I went there with my daughter with high hope which were brought down quickly. The service was very bad! We took a seat at the bar and my daughter ordered blueberry pancakes and got plain pancakes. When the waitress noticed that we were not eating she walked over and said with an attitude ""What's wrong"". My daughter told her that she order blueberry and the waitress tried to argue with my 8 year old telling her that she didn?t say blueberry. When we insisted that she did, the waitress grabbed the plate and walked off. I was nearly done with my food when she finally brought back the blueberry pancakes which she placed in front of my daughter and walked away. A few moments later we caught a glance of cook eating my daughter old pancakes with his hand while standing over the griddle flipping pancakes. GROSS! The food was ok...not great. I would not recommend this place at all. more

#1 breakfast spot in the area 11/24/2008

This is my favorite breakfast place. The blue corn pancakes were my favorite before I tried the potato pancakes!! They are to die for. I just went there for lunch and got the falafel sandwich which was very good. A little soft for my taste but still better than anything else in the area. The owners and waitstaff or friendly and fast. The only down fall is that there is a wait on weekends for breakfast....but they will take your cell phone number so you can go wait in the car and they will call you when your table it ready! more

cute familiar creatures anyone? 8/31/2008

Menu is impressive! But I don't remember ordering a crunchy, familiar crawler with my meal. After spotting a flying ant on the window next to me, a crawling one on the floor, I should have ben weary. Then, our meal arrived. Not bad aside from the price and the cute familiar creepy crawler on my son's cup of milk. Instead of yelling and making a big deal about it, I kindly spoke to the waitress and scooped it up in a napkin for her. NOT ONE EMPLOYEE ASKED IF EVERYTHING ELSE WAS OK. We received bill fo $50 (3 adults...) and not even comp for the milk! The owners were there and after bringing it to there attention, not even an apology. I guess the DELUX TOWN DINER must be used to ceepy crawlers. Oh, and there is no wait to get in. Who would wait in line to pay $10 for an omlette? By the way, this site would not allow me to use the correct name for these pests. Pros: Location Cons: Creepy Critters more

Great diner 3/16/2008

My favorite diner to go to ! The corn meal pancakes and Johnny Cakes are amazing. Great diner atmosphere, fast service, huge menu. Pros: Amazing diner food Cons: Long wait on the weekends more

Lots of Vegetarian Options! 3/26/2007

I was amazed at the variety of vegetarian options. I've been several times and there's still things I haven't tried. Most everything I've ordered has tasted good, and it's all very reasonably priced. Atmosphere is relaxed and cozy, waitstaff is usually friendly and prompt. Pros: Good food, Good price. Cons: Skip the fries. more

Cool lunch! 8/3/2006

I've been here once with friends, and I had the chicken and vegetable pie that is made in a cooking container that isn't a pan (it won't let me type that word), which was incredible. The server was really friendly and attentive. It's hard to find a good diner around Boston. Pros: Extensive menu, GREAT service Cons: Not on T more

Great Breakfast! 7/22/2006

This diner has a very large menu with tons of options. The first thing I noticed was that they offered soy milk and chocolate milk, which is rare in any restaurant let alone a diner. The servicer was wonderful. When my omlet arrived it was the size of a medium pancake, but the amount of flavor packed into it was amazing. I definately plan on returning for breakfast as well as to try the famous burgers! Pros: service, options, value Cons: parking more

old style made new 8/9/2002

This place is way ahead of the curve. The menu is really broad for a diner. Sweet potato pancakes are a great choice. Pros: good menu Cons: parking, crowds more

Paradise, without drinks. 6/6/2002

This is a relentlessly delicious restaurant. The original trappings of a diner, from red vinyl booths to formica counters, are all still in place (as is the inimitable diner coffee), but the menu has been revamped to go far beyond the usual eggs and burgers. Pefect salads and amazing grilled chicken - they also have encorporated some Middle Eastern dishes that work either to share or as an entree. The lighting is warm and friendly - all in all, a great place for a cozy dinner. NB: They do not have a liquor licence, and BYOB is generally frowned upon. more
