Delfina Wine List Review Delfina has been a staple on the San Francisco restaurant scene for over a decade....

Worst

If you live in San Francisco, this is probably a place to see and be seen for the ""Beautiful People"", but it certainly isn't a good choice for top line, authentic Italian cuisin...

Best Italian in SF 7/26/2002

I grew up in italy (central and northern italy) and i despair of the italian restaurants. Antica Trattoria wasn't bad, Ristorante Ideale was much better, but Delfina takes the prize. The chef is American, but he studied worked in Italy and it shows. I really found his interpretation of italian relationship to food refreshing: ""less is best"" no drowning pasta under sauces, simple, in-season ingredients, ""fave con pecorino"", Farro where delightful finds. I have to try Merenda and a few others but so far Delfina takes the prize. more

don't miss it 7/23/2002

This small and trendy restaurant always lives up to the hype. The food is fantastic, the service superb and the prices a great value. It is noisey and crowded, but the lively vibe isn't always a bad thing. Pros: amazing food, great service, wonderful wine Cons: noise level more

INSULT TO INJURY 7/23/2002

Had 7:30 reservs 1/2 hr wait Next to yuppies behaving badly. We did not make it through apps Unfortunately they were friends of very dumb waitress who spent more time giggling with them then paying attention to us We complained fortunately did not have to pay & left We & other neighborhood friends discontinue to go there. We have gotten into very pleasant habit of going to Il Contuccio or Emmy's Spaghetti Shack Pros: Wine Cons: Bad service, very loud, rude hostess more

Crowded for a reason! 7/2/2002

If you can make it in, it's well worth it. Delicious food, never been dissapointed. Before I went someone told me ""it's great Italian food"". Well, I don't know how Italian it really is, but great food none-the-less. It's cramped though, be prepared. more

Perfect. 6/26/2002

This is fastly becoming our favorite place to go out for dinner. The atmosphere is casual and cozy, but maintains a tone of refinement. The menu is well-balanced, the portions are perfect, and the prices are totally reasonable. The service is also very professional but friendly too. We've never had a less-than-stellar experience here. Delfina is definitely an asset to the neighborhood and to the SF dining scene in general. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended to avoid an often brutal wait for a small table in the bar area. Pros: Everything Cons: Parking can suck more

Delwaita 6/24/2002

After hearing raves of this place, decided to see for myself. Besides long waits in between being seated, ordering, and receiving food (waitress apologized - said ""something wrong obviously happened"" in the kitchen) I still give it a high rating. Very welcoming staff, fantastic menu, and comp dessert for the long wait - it's a delight. more

Consistently delicious! 6/12/2002

Each meal I've had has been absolultely wonderful. They use fresh, organic ingredients.. The sausage/bean appetizer and steak with frites are divine. The service is good. The place gets crowded and can be loud. Good place for a couple or a group. Make reservations in advance tho! more

Overrated 6/6/2002

So, I've realized that the guy who says this is the best place he's ever eaten in his 60+ years says such things because he doesn't eat at more than one restaurant in a city. There are plenty of better restaraunt's in this city with better food at a better price. For me, the experience was quite anti-climactic. The food was only average and sub-par for the price. Italian? hardly. Romantic? only if you are trying to be romantic with one of the people at the other table half a foot away from you. You'll still try it... I know, I did the same, but know that you've been warned. more

Left hungry 6/2/2002

I didn't order a salad or app, I had a pasta dish. It tasted great, but I wish I had 3 more bowls worth. Seriously, the protion was WAY TO SMALL. I can't see any reason to go back there if the portions continue to be this way, maybe this is the hip style or something. I wouldn't recommomend this place. more

deeeeeeeeeelicious 5/30/2002

With the hishgest per capita restaraunt ratings in the city- we have alot of dinnerchoices. delfina never disspoints...they remain true to their motto ""dont be afraid of food"". some favorites are sand dabs and tempura battered squash blossoms with lemen chevre. resonable wine list and very nice servers. i'm glad i live near delfina. more

Don't Quite Get It 5/19/2002

Sure the waitstaff is cool, and i guess the surroundings are okay, but I still ended up with noodles 'n red sauce and mashed potatoes. Not quite sure what they're going for, unless it's Swanson on white plates. I expected a more exiting experience.... more
