If you live in San Francisco, this is probably a place to see and be seen for the ""Beautiful People"", but it certainly isn't a good choice for top line, authentic Italian cuisin...

The food was tongue numbing 3/31/2007

What a disappointment. We went here expecting alot from its reputation. Our grilled asparagus was good, not spectacular but good. My BF ordered the sole and I ordered the skate. Both under seasoned, tasteless, and underwhelming. For dessert, the panna cotta was average nothing exciting. I've been waiting to go to this restaurant for years. But I think its hay day is on the DEcline. more

The best place for Italian 11/21/2006

Whenever we want to go out to eat, Delfina's is my choice. I always order the same thing, too - lasagna and caesar salad. It's so big, I have enough for lunch the next day!!! more

Always amazing 9/7/2006

It's not easy to get a reservation, but they do handle walk-in customers well. The menu changes daily, ingredients are fresh, and flawlessly prepared. And it's a value -- it's not nearly as expensive as many restaurants with not-so-good food. Delfina is one of the best places in town. more

popular and good 11/17/2005

If you're looking for a special treat in the mission, Delfina is a great choice. The menu is very creative and really there's something here for everyone. The decor is relatively sparse but that adds to the authentic Italian feel. There's a reason this is such a popular venue; consistently great food. Remember to save room for desert. more

One of the things I miss most about San Francisco 10/7/2004

The summer after our first year in graduate school I shared an apartment with a classmate a block away from Delfina (and its excellent neighbor, the Bi-Rite grocery, but that's another review). They were still a brand-new neighborhood restaurant then, and the personal warmth and excitement of the owners came through in everything - from the thoughtful design of the interior space, to the attitudes of the hostesses, servers and bartenders, to (most especially) the food.

Unlike some of it's local peers, Delfina's strength isn't 'fancy' or elaborate preparations, but the (to my mind) more difficult challenge of executing simple dishes with incredible care and attention to detail. Even in a simple dish like white beans, the ingredients are superb, the balance of flavors delicate and precise.

There aren't many Bay Area restaurants that I miss, but Delfina is one of them. I know it won't ever be the same little neighborhood secret that it was that first summer, but it still has a place in my heart. more

Delfina is the finest 10/6/2004

Ever since it opened, Delfina has not faltered. Owners Annie and Craig (the head chef) have managed to keep this place feeling like a neighborhood joint despite its national fame. The menu always has a few favorites, Niman Ranch flatiron steak with french fries, roasted beet and goat cheese salad and for 5 years they have kept their classic spaghetti with plum tomatoes/garlic and hot pepper flakes (for a mere $7) on the menu! Don't miss dessert- panna cotta or the bittersweet chocolate cake with creme anglaise- to die for. Make a reservation- this spot is popular! more
