Great Aveda salon 7/20/2009

I have known Deja Vu Salon since it opened over a decade ago. I am rather shocked to read the previous reviews because my experience there has always been positive. Brook is my stylist and she does an excellent job! She understands what color I want or what type of haircut I need. Also the decor of the salon is Caribbean themed and they also serve Martinis!! I love this place Pros: Nice relaxing place Cons: none more

Consistently Pleased 3/27/2009

Wow, I'm surprised by some of these harshly negative reviews of Deja Vu! I'll paint a different picture, and I should note that I do not work for the salon, but I have been a client there for the past year and a half. When I first moved to Delaware County from Center City, I tried several salons near my home in Swarthmore and was dissatisfied with all of them. In general, they were overpriced with under skilled and (surprisingly) overbooked stylists. Then I found Deja Vu in Media. I was scheduled with Amanda who had been on the job only a few weeks then. I was so pleased to get such a great cut for, at that time, only $35. Amanda was really friendly, down to earth, and professional for a 20 year old kid (at least, to me) who had just graduated beauty school. I've been back many times, and Amanda has given me consistently great cuts and service (and I'm not one of those people who comes in just for a trim. I'm one of those who shows up every 3 mos. with a photo from a magazine wanting a complete hair makeover! Amanda always delivers.) I've also had nothing but pleasant exchanges with Rachel at the front desk who appears very professional to me--nothing like a bar bruiser (?!) The one reviewer had a point about them pushing the overpriced products on you, but that's been the case at every salon I've been to. Also, I was disappointed to see the price of Amanda's cuts go up to what I paid in the city--around $60. But I get a lot more service for that price at Deja Vu than I did in the city. In short, I will keep coming back to Deja Vu and I wholly recommend them to others. In fact, I have an appointment with Amanda tomorrow morning, and I'm greatly looking forward to a hot new do for spring! Pros: Amanda gives great cuts and is super friendly Cons: Price of cuts has gone up significantly more

JUST OK 1/15/2009

I think the owner, Jonathan, does a good color job, sometimes even excellent. Amanda is new and I was not thrilled with her cut -- ok, but not great. Also not as polished as she might be, but ok. There's too much pressure to buy their products, which I think is all vastly overpriced. Overall, it's OK, but for that amount of money, it should be awesome! For cuts, I like Wanda at Hair Stop for about 1/4 the price, but for color, I will continue to use them. Pros: color, location, service Cons: cost, skill, hassle more

Deja Vu IS Awful 12/3/2008

BEWARE OF DEJA VU. Amanda is NOT a top notch stylist and you WILL BE DISAPPOINTED if you go there! She obviously needs more education/training in hair design (and manners)! She cut & colored my hair and it has taken 5 months to grow out to correct what she did wrong! She and Rachel (the front desk person) are both bullies and Rachel has NO CLASS and exhibited NO PROFESSIONALISM. (I could see her starting a bar room brawl... I think you get the point what kind of women these two are.) John, the owner DID NOT make me "feel like family" but quite the contrary! Read the other tellitlikeitis review as IT IS what you will experience if you risk going there and don't like your service and dare ask them for the justice of a redo! This reviewer named DeeDee777 obviously must be a friend of Deja Vu or one of the bullies (employees)? I was told by a friend that salons write their own reviews (lies) to counter negative reviews from customers. How pathetic! So, truly BEWARE of Deja Vu! The truth has been spoken. We all work too hard for our money to waste it at a awful salon that abuses their customers if they dare object to their bad cuts/service. One more thing, I don't think it's a plus that they offer free drinks there. I thought it was tacky to see a bar set-up in a salon! Not at all like the classy, spa like Aveda salons I'm used to. I'm thinking that possibly Amanda could have been drinking some of those free drinks the day she cut my hair? Don't risk it! Pros: None Cons: Everything about the salon, staff and service! more

Great Salon, Staff and Service 9/30/2008

I must return a comment to tellitlikeitis2008...are you sure you went to DejaVu in Media, PA??? I have never been treated so nice in a salon!! Rachael is FIRST class and will try her best to accomodate your every need!! Amanda is top notch...she's always pleasant and is up on the latest styles and techniques. John, the owner...he's the best; he always makes you feel like you're with family!! The entire DejaVu staff is friendly and always tries to make your experience a pleasant one. Maybe you were in a bad mood that day?? Or maybe you just have bad hair. Pros: free hand massage and margaritas! Cons: NONE more

This Is My Happy Place 9/25/2008

I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia and I have well water. I had a terrible problem with my blond hair turning red, and I did not attribute it to my well water. I did not know what was happening to my hair, but it was very noticeable and embarrassing. One visit to Dejavu and John, the owner, knew what the problem was. They worked with me for many months to get the red out of my hair. It was from a high consentration of clay and sulfer in my water that turned my hair red. Since John was able to identify the problem, I have had a whole house treatment system installed and my hair is finally back to it's original color. Never to be red again! I have never had a bad experience at this salon. Everyone is so kind and accommodating. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like you are the most important customer of the day. Always asking if they can get something. A drink, or a free hand massage, a magazine to read while you are processing. I have reccommened this salon to many of my friends who are now regular customers. I have traveled around the world and have visited many salons, and I am thrilled that the one I liked the best is right in my backyard! If you want to feel like a princess for an hour or two, make an appointment, I promise you won't be disappointed! Pros: Service, Experience, Super Friendly Atmosphere Cons: None more

the nicest most talented people in delaware county 9/24/2008

I just had to take a moment to dispute the comments of the posted review before me. I read it and it's such a misrepresentation of who they are and what they do!!! I love deja vu salon!! I have been a client there since they opened their doors in 1996 and since that moment until now I have had countless compliaments on my color and cut from my family, friends and even complete strangers!! The ENTIRE staff is sweet and friendly and down to earth. Rachel, who manages the entire salon couldn't be more kind or accomodating; Amanda always has a smile on her face and gives an amazing hair cut; and John always has a moment to listen to his guests and does BEAUTIFUL hair color. So i guess my best advice to all those reading is consider that this salon has been open for 12 years, has been so busy that they moved into a bigger space and has won awards for their hair skills and outstanding customer service so they must be doing something right!! I personally thnk there is something wrong with that woman cause EVERYTHING is right at deja vu!! Pros: free hand massages, margharitas and make up touch ups Cons: not a thing more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE at Deja Vu!! 8/19/2008

Horrible Customer Service & Bad Cuts/Haircolor! The front desk employee Rachel has no class! The atmosphere & service is not at all like a typical Aveda salon, yet the prices are, don't be fooled. I had my cut/color done by Amanda who did not cut or color my hair correctly (cut layers throughout even though I asked her not to & several sections of overgrowth left uncolored). I made a complaint & was told that it would be corrected but I was treated horribly when I went back! When I arrived, the rude & creepy staff stared me down and ignored me, obviously trying to make me feel uncomfortable for making the complaint. (Think bullies like in the movie: Mean Girls.) I was left standing there for some time without any acknowledgment from the staff. John (owner) did my color but there wasn't much improvement & some sections turned orange, other sections of overgrowth still not colored! I dare not mention it to him in fear of more backlash. When I saw Amanda, I attempted to say hello but she did not say hello and stormed by me then and several times throughout the time I was there! I mentioned her rude behavior to John but he invalidated me and laughed it off. I also mentioned it to Rachel who made no apologies either. The stylist that was to correct my haircut suggested that I just grow it out & only trimmed a few sections, so I was left with the same bad haircut to last the entire summer!) This was the most bizarre and uncomfortable salon experience I've ever had in my life! I spent $150 +$20 for a tip + $60 on products to give them my business, only to receive abusive treatment and to be left with an awful cut and color for the rest of the summer! Now I'm forced to spend more money to have it corrected at another salon! If you prefer to deal with courteous people that are kind & professional, DejaVu would certainly not be for you. If you want to spend your hard earned money and pay top dollar for abusive treatment & bad service, go right ahead... Pros: No Pros Cons: Salon was horrible on every level! Bad Service, high prices! more

Friendly staff, but not so great results. 7/23/2008

I was going to this salon for a haircut and color. The staff were pretty friendly and the atmosphere was nice. I first met with my "master" colorist, Jonathan, who asked one or two questions and didn't have the greatest social interaction. He didn't smile and he looked a bit rushed. He brought out some hair color samples to help me better choose a color, which at the time I appreciated. After mixing the color, he was working it through my hair when it ran out (my hair is thick and this always happens) so he said he would be right back with more. He did come back rather quickly, but instead of finishing the job he had me go and sit at the shampoo chair and the shampoo girl finished applying the color!! I did not pay top dollar for a master colorist so the shampoo girl could finish the color job. I thought this was highly unprofessional and showed a sense of disregard. Jonathan never even came back over to me to be sure it was done correctly and he never checked back with me later to see how the color came out. Next, I met with my stylist, Amanda, who was very friendly and professional and she gave me a great cut. At the salon, my cut & color looked pretty good (bad lighting I guess) as the next night after I showered I noticed that there were tons of spots missing color and it looked like someone dumped red kool-aid on my hair. The color wasn't even around my hair Iine. I was so disappointed and I haven't worn my hair down since getting it done. This experience would have been okay if it wasn't for Jonathan. His color job was horrible and it made Amanda's cut look less than great. I would NOT reccomend going to this salon if your getting color done and they tell you that Jonathan is doing it. Pros: Atmosphere and they offer free hand massages Cons: Jonathan and parking more

Amazing Service, Great Prices! 12/17/2007

You know how sometimes you go to a high-end salon and you feel like you don't make enough money to be there? Sometimes the atmosphere can be snotty in the upscale establishments. NOT HERE! Everyone I met was friendly and down-to-earth. The color specialist and stylist both spent alot of time making sure I got exactly what I wanted and I felt like I was on a mini-vacation! They give a complementary Aveda hand massage, offer drinks and magazines and treat you like royalty. And the prices were extremely reasonable for all this exceptional service. Plus Media is a great town and Deja Vu is in a great spot...near restaurants and shopping. And they offer massage, waxing, etc. I will be a customer for life! :) Pros: Fantastic Service, Extensive Spa Menu, Reasonable Prices, Aveda Products Cons: None! more

I stopped in for a make up lesson and the make up designer, Rachel, was fantastic! She was AVEDA trained and new everything about the products. I felt very comfortable and looked really pretty and my husband just loved it! Pros: friendly staff, clean salon, great music more
