Dr. Scharf and his entire staff have been awesome. Beginning with his staff, they are extremely polite, compassionate and the utmost in professionalism. Each and every phase in the procedure was explained to me prior to implementation and once again as the procedure took place. Knowing exactly what was happening was a great stress reducer, hence I had no anxiety. I have had bone loss over the last several years and had periodontal surgery a few years ago. Cutting my gums, sutures, dressings. It was awful and I swore I would not ever do that again. My dentist referred me to Dr. Scharf for a consultation for laser surgery. I had the surgery a week ago and cannot believe the experience I had. First of all the staff is wonderful, they are very professional, reassuring and informative. Dr. Scharf is truly the ""guru"" of laser surgery. He reviewed everything with me and truly made me feel comfortable getting this procedure. The procedure only took an hour and I had no discomfort or pain afterwards!!! After many years of neglecting my teeth due to having had a very traumatic childhood experience at a dentist, I had developed periodontal disease that was quite severe. At the insistence of my regular dentist, I agreed to see a periodontist for what I knew was going to involve painful gum surgery. I had heard many horror stories about periodontal gum surgery, and so when I learned about the possibility of having laser gum surgery I was thrilled. I researched for quite sometime the periodontists in my area and Dr. Scharf's name kept coming up as being one of the best. Dr. Scharf performed my laser surgery on 10/27/09 and 10/28/09, and the experience was absolutey painless. Dr. Scharf absolutely has magic hands. He is a highly skilled periodontist. Prior to my surgery, I had very deep pockets on many of my teeth, ranging from 5 to 8. Almost immediately after surgery, my pocket depths were reduced to 2s and 3s, with just one tooth having a 4. Since my surgery, I visit Dr. Scharf every three months for a perio cleaning. The hygienists there are GREAT, as are the rest of Dr. Scharf's staff. It's not hard to see that Dr. Scharf takes the selection of his staff very seriously. Everyone there is terrific! My last visit was just the other day, 6/13/13, and Jamie (she is wonderful!) did a charting of my gums. My pockets are still 2s and 3s, almost 4 years after my surgery. I couldn't be more thrilled. Part of my orignal laser surgery treatment involved occlusal adjustments. I had a total of six adjustments. This was very necessary in order to correct my bite. Having a correct bite is very important when you have bone loss. Teeth become weakened and any excess or inappropriate biting force can make matters worse. Reducing pockets is the first step in treatment, but making sure your bite is correct is also an important part of treatment. \r \r All of my experiences with Dr. Scharf and with all of his staff, since my very first contact with him back in October of 2009, has been nothing but positive. He runs a very orderly and professional practice. His staff has always been friendly and professional to me, and their genuine interest in a patient's comfort and well being is most obvious from the moment you walk into the office. Appointment times are honored almost to the minute, which is not very common today. I am completely pleased by the outcome of the laser surgery that Dr. Scharf performed on me, and I couldn't be more grateful. I find Dr. Scharf's knowledge of the current research in dental medicine to be one of his greatest strengths, in addition to his ability to relate to patients in a comforting and reassuring way. I went to Dr. Scharf to have my gum disease treated. I was mailed a lot of information before the appointment. I found it very informative and helpful. My experience in his office was very positive. His receptionist Donna greeted my by name with a big friendly hello. I was seen right on time. Dr. Scharf met me in in his office and we spoke for 20 minutes or so before he examined my mouth. It was without a doubt the most thorough exam I had ever had. We had another visit where he told me what my options are. I could have done either gum surgery or the laser treatment. He told me the pluses and minuses of each option and I chose the laser option. There was a little pain after the novocaine wore off but that was all. He adjusted my bite and made me a night guard as part of the treatment. The night guard took a little while to get used to. My bite feels great. My gums don't bleed anymore and my bad breath is gone. I feel Dr. Scharf and his staff cared about me. Excellent doctor, excellent experience. more

I went to Dr. Scharf for a consultation as to the viability of an implant He told me that a bone graft was necessary in order to place the implant. I specifically asked Dr. Scharf if the bone graft would affect the adjacent teeth and he replied that it would not. Based on his assurances, I decided to go ahead with the bone graft procedure. After the bone graft, I noticed the two adjacent teeth had become significantly mobile. My incisor located to the left of the missing tooth also shifted position significantly creating a total space between my remaining front incisors almost 80% greater than the original space. My sole option of treatment now consists of bonding the adjoining teeth along with placement of the implant crown. The bone graft procedure perfomed by Dr. Schaf has resulted in severe damage to my dental health and quality of life, as well as in great financial expense. more

Dr. Scharf and his personnel are by far the best I have been to yet. All of their equipment is state of the art and the office is amazing. I would definitely recommend him to anyone in the area. His surely is the best Periodontist around. more

Growing up, I've always dreaded going to the dentist, so I have to admit that I wasn't looking forward to getting my implants. However, one visit with Dr. Scharf and his team banished all my fears about dentists. They were very patient with me, and answered all of my questions. I take my whole family to Dr. Scharf. It is not really that convenient from our home but we prefer only to go to one of the best periodontists around; it is worth the ride. I have complete confidence in Dr. Scharf and his staff. I can truly say that my mouth has never been so healthy.
