I joined my family to try out Dan & Louis Oyster Bar. First, it's a really cool place with tons of historical photos and articles on the walls. The inside looks like the inside of...

What we had was quite tasty, I had the seafood medley, and our group of 10 pretty much covered the menu and save the two who weren't seafood lovers, everyone was happy. more

Lots of little quirks here. Go take a little tour of the restaurant to see all the displays on the wall ranging from old photographs to decorative plates all related to the sea. Food wasn't too bad, but wasn't extraordinary. We had a nice brunch here though. I like how it's located in an alley. more

The best, freshest, briniest oysters ever. Go at Happy Hour. Fun place. The service is good although they are very busy, so sometimes a little wait for a new drink. But overall great place. more

My son and I went for dinner and it was a most tasty experience. I had a cup of the smoked salmon chowder and it would knock your socks off. I went light as I was still full from an earlier meal. My son went after the broiled cod fish dinner, which was excellent. I highly recommend this establishment if you're ever in Portland. more

We stopped here for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed the oysters in the half shell. more

During the summer they have a fantastic outdoor casual seating area. Fantastically classic chowder. Great inexpensive place to swing by for a quick dinner more

I've only had Oysters a couple of times, but this by was far my best experience with them. That had a decent beer selection, and a full bar. We had to wait an extra 5 minutes for our bread but it was totally worth it when a basket of steaming sourdough bread was brought to us. Delicious. As I said, i'm not a huge Oyster connoisseur but these tasted fantastic. more

Nice size dishes. Presentation is everything. Hadn't been here in years. Took some out of town friends to check out our seafood. more

This place has been in Portland for Forever and you can tell the interior is very eclectic. Its a little dark inside or at least the area we were seated in was. Very enjoyable dinner. Oysters were excellant, very clean! more

If you like raw oysters on the half-shell, this it he place for you. Also, if you like historic restaurants with old celeb photos on the walls. This one has a black-and-white shot of Casey Stengel when he was managing the Oakland Oaks. That was a long time ago -- you could look it up. Martinis go great with raw oysters. So do Negronis and beer on tap. They have all. If you like your shellfish cooked, try the Oysters Rockefeller, the Steamed Manila Clams or the Oyster Stews. All excellent. more

Great Place with history - ode to oyster pioneers. Batter on oysters is perfection, they know the perfect temperature for deep frying. The service is excellent and very attentive. more

The service is very friendly and helpful. They will let you wander and view all the beautiful plates and pictures on the walls. Food was served hot, or cold as in the oysters. I am going back very soon. more

Great service & great food. Had the Admiral's Platter (big enough for two of us to share) and also shared a large, steaming bowl of fresh clam chowder. I now understand why they say this is the best chowder in Portland! Our server was attentive and friendly. The host who sat us outside have us the rundown on the specials before our server even got to us, so extra points for punctuality more

We love raw oysters so getting a chance to eat in-season, locally grown/harvested oysters is a real treat. Our party of 3 shared a dozen- 3 of four different kinds and they were absolutely great. It was truly wonderful to be able to sample and compare the different species. We also got the clam chowder and fresh halibut and these were good too! The wait help is friendly and knowledgeable. The ambiance is nautical funky- lots of knotty pine, plates on the wall, family history of the restaurant more

Whether it has been for happy hour, a late breakfast, or dinner, the food has always been exceptional. I used to go there quite a bit with my friend and have Makers Mark manhattans. The (female) always remembered how we liked them and has a great sense of humor. Hope that she s still there! Be back soon! more

We of course had the raw oysters on the half shell, and they were excellent. As was the rest of our meal. The atmosphere is out of the 50's, and was fun. Excellent service. more

Did you know Ankeny St. is closed to traffic and the all the restaurants down there have tables outside? Me either! We had an enjoyable lunch today people watching and eating some tasty oysters and chowder. Great service too. For dessert we went to VooDoo Donuts across the street. Keep Portland Weird! more

WOW!!! This place was absolutely AMAZING. It was like going back in time. All the historic stuff on the walls that they have collected over the years is so much fun to look at. Old newspaper clippings, pics of old stars, and nautical galore. The historical value alone, was worth the visit. Our favoite part was the old cictern (shanghi tunnel??) that you can view through a window in the floor of the bar. more
