Best

Honestly, we have been dining in this restaurant for years and we have found the food to be anything but Great! The service is standard for a small family restaurant and only adds...

Worst

AVOID THIS PLACE!! I am not a tourist but this restaurant is next to Disney so obviously it is aimed at stealing from tourists who don't know the average meal charge for the area...

Bad food, bad service 6/16/2010

Went there with couple of families late in the evening. It took them about 15 minutes to get back to us on sitting, there were barely anyone in the restaurant. Food was really bad, so bad that one person had to go puke in the bathroom. They saw all this, but didn't show any concerns. We threw rest of the food and on top of this, they had charged 15% tip. Overall, bad experience, this place should be closed. more

Be your own judge... 10/26/2009

99% of the negative reviews for this place is probably done by other restaurant owners in the area. This Restaurant is awesome, their food is authentic. The people who bad mouth this place probably have never eaten in sit down restaurants; ... most restaurants in america cost $50 on the average for 2 people for dinner. more

Bad place for North indian food 8/6/2009

I visited Dakshin recently in July 09, Ordered simple North Indian dishes, the preparation was horrible, they do not have a clue about NORTH Indian food. The service was very late. I have a feeling that they are far far away from from basic restaurant discipline & practices. I have not tried any South Indian food, so I can not comment about. more

worst restaurant to be avoided at all costs 5/25/2008

The service is pathetic, very late. The food is not good and the chef uses dubious ingredients in the preparations.I am indian and I know what good Indian food tastes like.I would not recommend this joint to anyone.I had though that I have seen the worst of restaurants but Dakshin takes the cake. Imagine, paying a 15% tip (added without you knowing it) and that is tip is added to the total, so that you end up paying a tax on the total. Giving a 15% tip for this pathetic piece of restaurant is like rubbing salt to the injury. The waiters are obnoxious if you ask them about this and question your intelligence If you value your dinner stay away from this crappy restaurant. These guys are an insult to the hospitality industry more

Worst Indian restaurant I have ever been 12/28/2006

Worst experience I had. Started with a long wait even though there were empty tables available. Got the wrong order and then the food was terrible. On top of that they charge 15 % gratuity on all the customers. I went in the evening hoping that we could get a better Indian food. I was wrong, Taco Bell or Burger king would have been a better choice. Ended up having ice cream from marble slabs in the same shopping complex. more

Dakshin Indian Cuisine 8/5/2005

Tucked into a small shopping plaza away down south, across from the entrance to the Disney resort area, is Dakshin - an extraordinary South Indian restaurant. It features dishes from the southern states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu - hard to find cuisine in restaurants usually dominated by by more northern Indian fare. Dakshin is a beautiful and gracious restaurant, hidden away in an otherwise ordinary plaza and next door to the tourists’ favorite: TGI Fridays. The tourists don’t know what they’re missing as they walk by this gem of a restaurant to a chain place they can visit at home in Ohio. I’ve been to Dakshin literally dozens of times, mostly with a friend who is from southern India. The curries and other dishes are less rich than the cream-based sauces of northern states; they tend to be tomato based, and they're flavored heavily with fresh spices and herbs. If you are looking for hot curries, you can get all the heat you want and more right here. But the sauces can be mild as well. If you need to tone down the heat a little, get a side of pachadi, a cucumber and yogurt sauce to cool your tongue. The lamb madras and chicken chettinad are authentic southern dishes with layers of flavor. I really enjoy the allepey fish curry with its tangy sauce, and their paneer (cheese) dishes as well. There are many kinds of rice to choose from: coconut rice with mustard seeds, creamy curd rice, and just plain sweet basmati. The breads here are not the typical naan - oven cooked flatbread. The bread of choice is a rice crepe-like dosa, a huge crispy pancake that can be used to sop up the meat and sauce. They are delicious, fresh and hot off the griddle. For dessert, they offer, among other things, a wonderful pistachio kulfi - a frozen treat somewhere between ice cream and marzipan. The mango lassi, a sweet yogurt drink, is rich and delicious. The lunch specials are a good value: you can get a plate with a selection from the lamb, chicken, vegetarian or seafood menus, a dosa, rice, sambar (vegetable soup with lentils), and coconut chutney for seven to nine dollars. The portions at both lunch and dinner are generous. Dakshin is far and away the best Indian restaurant in Orlando, and they are worth multiple visits. Their entire menu is online at www.dakshin-orlando.com. They do carry-out as well. more
