I?ve been a regular customer of Crown Hardware for over ten years. I?ll only support local businesses. Needed some PVC fittings and was nearby, so I ran into Crown to get what I needed. Upon entering the store I did the usual: grab a number and wait for help. While waiting, I overheard a counter guy discussing his finances or lack thereof with what could have been a friend or trade professional. Coincidentally that same salesman called my number several minutes later and waited on me. I asked what I thought I overheard him telling the guy before me. He explained to tell me how he has been working at Crown for some time now, but worried about their stability. The company hadn't given out even a standard yearly cost of living raise in years. This shocked me, as I was under the impression these long time and bright salesmen working at Crown were being paid well, and regularly reviewed for their performance and contribution to the company. This is not the case, as I was made aware. I can no longer shop at Crown in good faith. Running a small business myself and juggling a family is tough, but much tougher if you don't receive regular pay increases. I've since moved all my business to another local hardware store in the area. I know for certain this other store does adjust pay on a yearly basis. I know this because my brother who works for me now, used to work at the other hardware store. Think twice next time you run to Crown for their knowledge staff, or run the risk of supporting a company who doesn't support its staff.
