Hidden jewel 6/6/2007

Stopped in fall of '06 when attending a concert at the conservatory. The Mediterranean chicken was delicious, the atmosphere was quite cool, and the prices were very deceptive--we got way more than our money's worth. When I go back to Boston Croma will be a definite stop. more

I was pleased with Chroma but maybe that's because I wasn't expecting much. Most Newbury Street restaurants tend to disappear overnight with the overabundance of competition and rising rent for the posh addresses. The pizzas were more than hearty portions (leftovers the next day - yay!), the outdoor eating is plentiful, and their wine list is nothing to sneeze at. Its not the best italian food in the area (Ciao Bella is the real deal) but given that Milano's and La Famigilia have closed, it will do for now. Stick with the pizza and wine, and you'll enjoy it! more

Gourmet Pizza for All 4/15/2006

This is a surprising find for Newbury St. considering the sometimes overly swanky and haughty locations. Just look across the street at Armani Cafe for an example. Here, you'll instead find gourmet personal pizzas for a decent price and a creative menu of martinis that's ever-changing. Also, you can get all their wines by the glass, which is a rare treat. more

OK 4/13/2006

I'm not sure what's going on there, but I think they were closed for a while, so maybe they've revamped the dishes and the staff? The food's pretty reasonably priced in comparison to other restaurants in the area, and it's pretty good, too. What more can you ask for? The portions aren't very filling though. They have martini nights though, where they try special themed martinis and offer food at a discount. more

Alright 3/18/2006

Croma is an okay restaurant with an emphasis placed on Italian infuenced fare. The atmosphere is very cosmopolitan and chic, but the waiters are very aloof and not very attentive to the patrons. The eggplant parmesean and pizzas are not very good, and I have a feeling that the other dishes would be similar. The prices are low for Newbury street, but high for this lackluster cuisine. more

All Ambiance, No Substance 3/10/2006

I won't argue that Croma is the perfect place for the twentysomething, maybe thirtysomething, professional set to be seen wining and dining. It has all the look and feel of the favored trendy spot for that type. The modern decor is tasteful but the appeal of Croma ends there. To the frequent Italian diner, Croma offers nothing particularly special for your palette in its appetizers or entrees and the small portions tend to make it pricey in comparison to its competitors in the Back Bay. Occasionally there is a dessert worth having as the menu changes periodically but somehow favorites that are consensus among other reviews I read beyond this site typically disappear quickly. For better tasting food, try Ciao Bella, for better value in portions La Familia Gorgio is just down the street. more

Croma - Just look for the Pac-Man door pulls! 11/25/2005

When I first approached Croma, I thought... "Swank...." As I tugged at the large silver handles, shaped like a "C" but resembling Pac-Man, I thought, "Very cool". When I walked in, covered in snow seeking a warm spot at the bar, I was approached by a hostess who was actually friendly - not the typical Newbury Street attitude that I'd grown so accustomed to in other places. Instead, she quickly sat my husband and I and the bartender had a spiked hot something in front of us before my hands were even thawed out. After having drinks, we split a dessert and continued to shop on Newbury Street, vowing to return. We did. A few months later, only with friends for dinner. The food was elegant, affordable, and very yummy. The atmosphere is so chic - very city slick with candles all over, a fireplace, and great interior design and art work. The overall feeling is relaxed and hip, without the smug overdone women walking around. I give Croma 5 stars because so far, it's the only place in Boston that I've visited that had all the elements that I personally look for + more! Wakka Wakka! more

Cool atmosphere, service a little slow 9/29/2005

I recently went to Croma for a night out with the girls. The atmosphere was really fun, and perfect for the evening: relaxed, maybe a little too loud for talking, but otherwise great for a bunch of ladies who wanted to sit around and dish. The drink selection was excellent -- I had two mixed drinks and they both tasted wonderful, and were pretty unique as well. The place is a bit on the expensive side though, I believe martinis cost $11 each. I didn't have any of the food but it looked great and seemed more reasonably priced than their drinks (where in Boston are drinks reasonably priced, though?). The only downer of the evening was that the service was on the slow side, probably because they were pretty busy. It was difficult to get a drink and we stood around waiting for our checks for a little while before they seemed to get the message. Overall though, a good place to meet up in a group. I've heard their Tini Tuesdays are awesome. more

If you like specialty pizzas with a twist, this is the place for you. (Sample the Chicken ceasar salad pizza or the pecking duck pizza.) Also quite known for their martini Tuesdays, which will get you both drunk and full more
