Every weekend when I am out and 3AM strikes, I think of Crif Dogs. They know what I want: hot sexy dogs! They make your hot dog fresh and they have many different toppings. My fav...

I had a $5 strawberry milkshake here, and it tasted familiar - then I realized it was like when my mom used to mix strawberry syrup in with milk when I was 5. I also had the c...

Creative dogs 10/21/2007

As an avid hot dog eater, I was both impressed and disappointed buy my visit to Crif Dogs. Fun ambiance aside, I was impressed by the variety and combination of toppings. I ordered a Chihuahua (bacon wrapped with avacodo and sour cream) which was tasty, despite what I considered to be a meager amount of either topping. Pros: Unusual and wide variety of toppings Cons: Under the garnish, not much to write home about. $$ more

Great dogs and fries! 8/6/2007

Crif dogs is awesome! I particularly like the New Yorker style dog b/c of its snap. Awesome selection of condiments and toppings. 2 types of root beer on tap in addition to orange soda and other more common drinks. The cheese fries were some of the best I've had in a while! They maintained their crispness... even the ones smothered in cheese. Cool atmosphere and the A/C was cranking. Great place to go on a hot day or really any day! Pros: Tasty food, A/C, Fries more

yummy and cheap 7/9/2007

this place makes a basic, nicely charred, nicely flavored veggie dog, and service is quick. on my ""veggie special"" i got chopped tomatoes, onions and jalapenos. i also ordered a side of fries, which came criss-cross style and perfectly crisp, without being too oily or grease-soaked. cheap, fresh and convenient, serving up an all-american menu. Pros: tasty, fresh junk food Cons: supermarket hot dog buns more

Vegetarians beware. And watch your money. 6/30/2007

I ordered several veggie specials with sides to bring back to several people in a different neighborhood, and I get handed one meat hot dog with a mess of tater tots. I realized the mix-up when I got home and I immediately called. (I was disappointed, but still friendly). The girl behind the counter blamed me, saying I ""took the wrong order."" This is funny, because she came up to me, said my name, and gave me the order. She refused to let me come back another time and give me the correct order, or even the difference in price (my order was quite a bit more than the order they gave me, plus I overtipped $5). She said this happens all the time. Hmm. I've worked in many restaurants and I know this is not good. Is it too much to ask for a little accountability and just decent customer service? Apparently so. more

Great stop on one of the best junk food eating streets in nyc 5/3/2007

One of the few places where you can get a hot dog with coleslaw, pineapple, pickles. chili, ketchup, and tomatoes....and I would def say go for it. Pros: awsome toppings, good dogs Cons: wimpy buns more

good fries 4/7/2007

I thought it was Grif Dog, with a G. Anyway, I'm a vegetarian so haven't been able to try these hot dogs, but driving by late one night, I stopped in to grab some cheese fries (delicious and messy, just the way I like em). Good prices. It seems to be a local hang out spot, real gritty nyc, so anyone expecting a nice classy place, look elsewhere. But for native new yorkers its a true gem. Pros: cool local hang out, good fries Cons: small, can get loud and crowded more

not bad 10/28/2006

but not great either- if you love hot dogs then go here, they have a huge menu. it's pretty cheap but still doesn't beat the ""recession special"" at grey's more

The Good Morning is outstanding 10/12/2006

I have only been once. It was last night. I wasn't even drunk and it was still outstanding. The Good Morning hotdog beats any breakfast sandwich ever! And Tater-tots too! can't go wrong. Pros: The Good Morning, funny things on the walls Cons: $4 for a hotdog... borderline more

Multifaceted and Delicious 7/3/2006

Crif Dogs are highly delicious under a variety of circumstances. A low-key date with your girlfriend? Yum. Late night post-drinking snack? Yum. Hanging out with a kid? Yum. It's a fun environment and the dogs are SO good. Crisp, tasty, and with excellent toppings of all kinds. I recommend the chihuahua myself. Bacon, sourcream, avocados, and a hot dog? Together? Love. Pros: Deliciousness, Variety, Environment Cons: Occasional Loud hipster customers more

Try it once.... 6/12/2005

so you don't eat it again. i dont know what some people who rave about this hot dog are talking about. this without question is one of the worst hotdogs i have ever had. a street vendor has tastier hot dogs than these crif dogs. dont even mention the fries which taste like dehydrated potatos. if your curious about all these novelty dogs go ahead. personally i say save your money. 4$ for a bad dog is so not worth it. Pros: video game machine Cons: hot dogs, fries, hotdogs more

best veggie dogs 6/11/2005

all i have to say is they have the most fun and friendly people working there and the veggie dogs tastes so damn good, at first i thought they fried it in lard or something. awesome place. and the cheese fries are also the best i've eaten. more

The Best Hot Dog 6/22/2004

This place has the place hot dogs! I would recommend the Chihuahua. I don't normally eat hot dogs and normally I hate them but this hot dog was phenomenal. Highly recommend this place. more

Amazing 4/4/2004

This place is terrific - one of the few places that still feels like you're in the East Village. There's no pretension to hipness and the staff aren't rude or condescending. The fries are great (I get them with a side of temptee) the hot dogs are amazing - (love the crif dogs which are fried, but sometimes i go for the new york, which are more like gray's papayas), and yes even the burgers and other items are good. These guys really know how to do hot dogs - taking inspiration from legendary Jersey Hot Dog joints Callahan's and Hiram's and melding them together with East Village coziness. At a street fair in August last year, they had a stand where you could eat your fill for a donation. It was like heaven. Sometimes there's a line, but it's always kind of worth it. Pros: Amazing food, Fun, cool place more

Can't beat it. 4/1/2004

There are really no greater pleasures in the world than going into Crif Dogs with a friend, getting a couple of Pabst cans, and playing Ms. Pac Man while you eat Hot Dogs. The dog creations are incredible. Make sure you try the Good Morning Dog - which is a hot dog wrapped in Bacon with a Fried Egg and Cheese on Top. Or the spicy redneck which is another hotdog wrapped in bacon, with jalapenos, cheddar sauce, and onions. Crif is really the best Pros: Great Food, Cheap Food & Beer, Video Games more

Good DOG! 3/27/2004

Been sort of a hot dog connosieur for a while and this place definitely rates up there with the best. They offer a wide menu of dogs but for a purist it comes down to the New York dog and the Crif Dog. Of the two I would suggest the Crif Dog. Get the special with two dogs and a soda. Check out the toys and play a vintage video game while you are at it. Definitely the best dog in the East Village. Pros: Good Food, Cool Place, Great Value more

Great spot 5/16/2003

There are not a lot of joints in the city that are firndly to both the after-hours crowd, families, vegitarians and pets. I've been there many times and the food is always great and its always a good time. Pros: good dogs, pretty cheap, video and board games Cons: crowded, airconditioning?, bathrm's n the kichen more

Best Veggie Dog in Town 4/9/2003

Crif Dogs has saved the tofu pup for New York veggies everywhere. They split them down the middle to grill them so you don't have the same old soggy dog you get in other places. The result is a hotdog as yummy as its meat counterpart. The other real reason to come here is to play old school video games. Definitely a great, cheap date. My only complaint are the fries, which are hard and crispy to the point of being flavorless. Whatever happened to peanut oil boardwalk fries? They belong here... Pros: Great veggie dogs, Fun video games Cons: Crappy fries more

Mmm mmm mmm!! 3/24/2003

I stumbled all over Manhattan last weekend looking for the wonderful delight known as the ""crif dog"". Seriously it is one of the best hot dogs I have ever had! The selection is unique and very tasty. Even if haven't had a few, Crif Dog is a real treat! Did I mention you can play old school video games? Awesome! Pros: Dogs, Inexpensive, Games Cons: Hard to find, Crowded more
