DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY Bad food, very high priced, poor service Creole Cafe in 288 Egg Harbor Rd 1/13/2009

Dont waste your money at this place went with wife and kids for the most high priced, poor served bad tasting cajun food we have ever had as a family.\r Sorry to say im really mad at the whole dinner, I wish I could get my money back spent 100 dollars for simple food for 2 adults and 2 kids under 7 year of age.\r we had mixed revue on the over priced gombo, she hated it, as for me maybe it was the fact I did not eat all day but it was ok, lucky them cheap skates gave me the smallest serving might of been 5 spoonful wich went well with the bread.\r Also wife had a bad stomach ache for 2 days\r Never will I ever go back to 288 Egg Harbor Rd \r Sewell, NJ 08080\r DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY Pros: bread Cons: everything else , poor service, atmostfear, crap food, VERY HIGH Priced more

Authentic and Delicious 4/23/2008

My boyfriend and I have been to the Creole Cafe 4 times now. It is one of our favorite places. I was never a big fan of Cajun/Creole food until we ate here. I've had the real thing in New Orleans and I must say this place is pretty authentic. Variety is definitely the spice of life at this establishment. There are really no simple dishes on the menu so meat-and-potato eaters beware. Pretty much everything is served/ smothered with some gumbo/jambalaya-like creation and highly seasoned as you would expect with Cajun cuisine. The number of appetizer selections is the most I've ever seen. Last night we tried fried alligator which was yummy. There is always a nice selection of daily appetizer/entree specials as well. I highly recommend the mashed sweet potatoes as a complement to any entree; they are truly decadent. One warning - make sure you clarify with the server how you'd like your meat done. I said Medium for the Filet Tenderloins au Poivre special I ordered (which by the way the brandy cream sauce it was served was delicious) and it came out more Medium Rare. Other than that, from the sweet garlicky butter they serve with the bread, to the dessert, the food here is delicious. The Creole Cafe is a rare find in South Jersey. Anyone who likes Creole/Cajun cuisine or has always wanted to try it should definitely make a reservation today. Pros: variety of menu selections, authentic Cajun/Creole cuisine, rare find in South Jersey Cons: meat preparation more

A Wonderful Surprise 3/30/2008

I made my first (but certainly not last) visit to the Creole Cafe on a Friday evening. My dinner companion and I ordered the filet medallions. They were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Our dinner came with mashed sweet potatoes and a fabulous dish called mauk choux. The choice of desserts was extensive and our choices, bananas foster and a turtle cheesecake, were excellent. I definitely will go back often.\r \r Pros: Delicious food Cons: None that I have found more

Awesome creole food 11/2/2007

We visit Creole Cafe on a regular basis and love it. Anyone that says that this in not authentic creole food is simply mistaken. We have taken friends who vacation in New Orleans every year and they say it is the closest thing to real creole you can get without actually traveling there.\r Try the Bananas Foster, it's to die for! Pros: Plenty of parking, awesome food, great desserts more

Great creole restaurant now in Sewell 11/18/2006

Creoles beware! 4/26/2006

This is not Creole food. It is a poor interpretation of it. I ordered the chicken gumbo, a staple in Louisiana and it tasted like chili! I was horrified because gumbo is very easy to make. It wasn't even edible as a soup - which by the way it is a soup, not a thick saucy paste. The ribs were edible but the sides were something reheated in the microwave. Granted it was a slow night and my companion and I were the only one's there but that shouldn't mean old food. It was overpriced, the equivalent of fine dining with nothing fine about it. Take it from an uprooted Cajun living in NJ don't bother eating here. Pros: good desert Cons: over priced, not Creole, terrible food more

LOVED IT!!! 1/31/2006

My boyfriend and I loved this place. It was recommended by a few of our friends. The food was amazing. I had the Filet Cappy. Everything was fresh. The atmosphere was pretty close to New Orleans believe it or not. It was better than a lot of the food we had in New Orleans (except Restaurant 201, YUM). I would highly recommend it. Pros: Food, Food Portions, Price Cons: service a little slow, Reservations needed!, Distance more

Great food and atmosphere 9/30/2005

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoys the somewhat eclectic taste of New Orleans food. The ambiance is especially well done and the service is excellent. Having eaten gourmet dinners in New York, Los Angeles, Paris and London, I believe that I am well qualified to make this assessment and recommendation. I laughed upon reading the other review, ""No Way Creole Cafe"". I can only venture a guess, that the writer is a competing restaurant. more
