A real taste of Italy 8/25/2008

My wife and I just took our honeymoon in Italy and spent the evening reminiscing about our trip over some fantastic seafood and pasta. The restaurant is very quaint and romantic. The sections are pretty split off from each other, so it's very intimate. We shared Bruschetta Napolitano and it was delicious and light. I had Spaghetti Mediterreano with shrimp and clams in a white wine and oil sauce. It was delectable. My wife had Spaghetti with clams in a red sauce that was equally good. Glasses of house wine were $5.50 and not bad. The waiter was very attentive and we had a great time. We will definitely return, perhaps sitting out on the sidewalk to people watch. Pros: Authentic, Delicious, Romantic more

Family owned, charming cafe atmosphere 7/27/2008

I've been going here since 1996. Really charming little cafe with some outdoor tables -- the quirky, cozy European decor is exactly what you'd want in a place like this, and the half-tiered spaces add to the charm. This is a genuine family business, run by a very nice southern Italian family -- you don't see the parents so much anymore (they are quite old now), but the son, Luco, has taken over and cooks the food. Great staff, great place to drink and eat. Very good, inexpensive authentic Italian food, but the real reason to go is simply the charm of the place. One of the great secrets of the East Village. PS And whoever wrote that review allegating that this place is biased against certain fabulous people (filter won't let me use the more neutral term) is ridiculous. All sorts of people go there and are treated with the same courtesy as anyone else. This family has operated this restaurant for years in the Village, and it's terrible that someone would try to damage their reputation with a b.s. story like that. Pros: Charm, family owned, inexpensive, genuine southern Italian cooking Cons: None more

...it's a wonderful restaurant, the food is amazing, service is fantastic, and they are child friendly ...just bring your child at child friendly hours... if you want to try something new ...pick something from the specials or go directly to the 'chef - special' menu ...and you are going to have a great time and meal!!! more

The most charming place on 2 Avenue!!!!! 10/30/2007

To everyone out there, Cremcaffe is a great place to spend your evenings! Small italian restaurant, (with an actual italian chef, a great one by the way), quiet, and charming is the perfect location to spend a night out. Cremcaffe offers various types of pasta, specialties and wines for very reasonable prices. But cremcaffe is also known for great service and I nice warm staff who have made my dining experineces a real joy on numerous occassions and made me go back each time. Definitely recommended, I promise once you have tried the food, you will want to go back. more

Best Italian value in the city, REALLY 9/5/2007

last night, i went to cremcaffe on a second date (her recomendation) and was totally blown away. we had cantaloupe with prosciutto to start, a lobster ravioli to share, and then she had veal saltimboca and i did the duck special. i couldnt believe the food (service was great too), and could not believe the prices. all of that with a bottle of montepulciano was under 100 bucks. Crazy... i eat pretty much only italian, all over the city, and never have i had a better experience. this place has been here for 15 years, now i know why, and i'm just mad i've been missing out all these years, why are you people keeping this place a secret??? i met the chefs, luca and romano (son and father), from italy, and they were so funny. ask for the specials, take your time eating, and go hungry! 10 out of 10, absolutely. i'll be back asap! Pros: family run, exclusively italian chefs, great food and service, unbelievable value Cons: too far from my house! more

It really got it all!!! 8/12/2007

This is probably the best authentic Italian restaurant in New York City with superb food, friendly staff and warm/cozy decor. It's one of those places where you want everything on the menu and I am always torn trying to decide what to order. It has fabulous antipastos, pastas, a wide selection of entrees, good wine list and delicious deserts. Pros: food, staff and decor Cons: n/a more

hate crime 6/26/2007

I am responding to the e-mail about hate crimes. Before you use your right of freedom of speech you should get the facts straight! I was at Cremcaffe that night. 1) The skaters you?re so passionately defending took a big old leak directly on the restaurant front. 2) The owner of the establishment was not kicking anybody anywhere. In fact the ?big man? is not even an employee of Cremcaffe nor in anyway associated with the business. And if the incident was that drastic with people bleeding, getting kicked, etc. why did you not call the cops? You do know they?re only one block away. 3) Cremcaffes? clientele is to 40% gay but I guess you wouldn?t know because you?ve never been there or done any research. You are just very quick on judging. The owners are hard working people that opened this restaurant 13 somewhat years ago. They could take legal action against you and I personally hope they do. more

Don't support this establishment! 6/20/2007

I witnessed the owner of this establishment commit a hate crime in the middle of the street on a busy Saturday night. He is a big man and was yelling at two young gay men, calling them names, and he kicked one in the teeth, bloodying his mouth, and ran the other's head into a wall. it was terrible to witness. I hope the boys took legal action against him later, but either way, do not give this person your business! more

BEST KEPT SECRET 11/14/2004

This is my fav Italian restaurant in the city. I've been going here for years. Everything tastes wonderful and the service is great. Perfect first date place or for a small group (3-4 people) I've had some really great times here. It's delicious and inexpensive. Goat Cheese Ravioli is to die for! Perfect 10 more
