This place is a Minnesota Gem! 12/8/2009

Where do I start? This place has been Fabulous from the time they opened --15 years ago(?). They have been buying local and organic since they opened and stayed the course. The breakfast and dinner get my highest rating, they use the best coffee and make Sonny's award winning ice cream and sorbet on premises. The summer patio is the prettiest I've seen in the entire world, there's candlelight, wine, romance, all of it... Oh, and it appears that the same crazy person reviewed Crema a couple years back (6 times on the same day) and gave he staff a bad rating. The staff rocks! Pros: Everything!--atmosphere, local and organic food, best coffee Cons: closed Monday & Tuesday in Winter more

Amazing place, wonderful atmosphere, great food and service 5/11/2009

I have seen a lot of complaints about the service, but maybe they have changed staff since then? I moved about 6 months ago to just a block away from this place. Needless to say, I have been in there many, many times and have NEVER had one single issue with service or the staff. They are always overly friendly and extremely helpful and nice. ALWAYS! By now I am sure I have met the entire staff that works there. I also have never had a meal that I didn't like! All the food is absolutely delicious and a great place to bring friends and family. My grandmother fell in love with this place, as have many others I have brought. I have no complaints other than it tends to have some weird hours at times, so it might be worth giving them a call to see if they are open before making the trek there. Pros: Unique ice cream, great food, best atmosphere in town Cons: weird hours more

Best patio in Twin Cities 9/25/2008

Whenever I want to treat myself and pretend I'm in Europe, I go to Crema. The surroundings are beautiful and casual. The ice cream is an experience in smoothness. I'm not sure why others have said the help is sub-par. I've always been treated great and I often go alone. It is a more casual place; don't expect a lot of attention. You order at the counter and the food is brought to you but that's about it. More than enough in such a small place with, oftentimes, only one person staffing it. I love Crema and hope they're around for a long, long time! Pros: Best Patio, small, European cafe style, interesting food choices, ice cream to die for. Cons: You'll have to get up after the meal to get your ice cream...but I don't really consider this a con in such a small, casual place. more

European Romance in the Twin Cities 8/1/2008

I have been nothing but impressed with this place! The food is fresh and absolutely wonderful and the service staff is always helpful. My boyfriend and I have deemed this ""our place"" and we try to go there once a week. Some of the ice cream flavors seem off-the-wall but have amazing flavor without being over the top (the Organic celery sorbet was a personal fave!) The patio feels like you are sitting at a cafe in Italy and is a great escape w/ a glass of fair trade/organic wine. Definitely check this place out. Those who are giving it all 1 star and saying that the service was poor all signed in on the same day. Coincidence? Or a bitter customer trying to sabotage the rating. Give it a try! Pros: Patio, Ice Cream, Wine, Accessible more

Friendly and Tasty 7/5/2008

This place has great food, wine, atmosphere and of course the BEST ice cream. I think everyone who is complaining about the staff is crazy. I live in the neighborhood and have been there a lot and been treated great every time. The staff is friendly and helpful, people who are picky, bitter and unhappy are the ones complaining about the service. Pros: organic, tasty, beautiful garden more

Not very good 6/4/2008

Overpriced bad tasting ice cream. Went there and was not impressed at all. 5.95 for two small scoops, I will never return. I read other reviews alot of them seem to be well below average. It seems like they need to work on some things if they dont want everyone to stop going there. more

Best Ice cream in town 4/12/2008

Crema Cafe is a Twin Cities gem. Tiny and full of character, it offers some of the best ice cream anywhere. This is the home of Sonny's Ice Cream and they make all their flavors in small batches by hand. Fruit sorbets in particular are intensely flavorful. The menu is quite limited - this is a small cafe/ice cream place, not a big, fancy restaurant. I had dinner there last night with a party of 8 and we found the service good, the staff friendly, casual, and funky in an Uptown sort of way. Summer evenings end blissfully with a trip to Crema Cafe. more

HORRIBLE!!! 4/5/2008

Beware! This place clearly thinks it's too special to serve customers the way a professional establishment should. If you like going to eat at a place where you're treated like an annoyance just for being there and making them ACTUALLY WORK, then maybe this is the place for you. otherwise, I'd steer clear of it. The food is not worth the crappy attitude floating around this place. yuck! more

what happened? 4/5/2008

I used to enjoy this place. the food was great and I never thought I'd have any complaints. Pros: none.. Cons: food, serivce more

I Agree! 4/5/2008

I took my wife here for the date night and was told very nice things about this place. Pros: food Cons: service, atmosphere more

wow.. 4/5/2008

these people are unbelievable. The service is outrageous here. They exude such a stuck up attitude and have zero customer service understanding. more

awful service 4/5/2008

After visiting Crema, I walked away feeling not only like I'd paid entirely too much for lunch but that I'd also been treated as more of a bother for even requiring them to make my food than i was treated as a paying customer. The total unprofessional behavior of not only the counter staff, but the manager as well, turned me off from ever visiting again. After waiting to be served by two flirting counter staff members, i spoke up and received the ""what do you want?"" in an annoyed voice. I couldn't believe it. Because i heard the food was great, i ordered anyway...got charged for the wrong meal, was told that i was ""Crazy"" when i politely noted the mistake. After asking to speak to manager in order to get my money back, i was told that my business wasn't needed and if i wasn't happy then not to bother coming back...No money refund. Cons: vibe, staff, manager, attitude, price more

Best cafe in Minneapolis 12/22/2007

Given that this place is just a few blocks away from where I live, I had been meaning to go for months. I finally stopped in for lunch one day - the tomato basil soup and croque monsieur (grilled ham & cheese) was better than I had in Paris. How had I not heard more about this place! The patio is gorgeous, the food is absolutely OUTSTANDING - very european cafe style - and they have 1/2 price bottles of wine after 9:30 pm. more

Indifferent, unaccommodating service spoils great food and great setting. 7/17/2007

The last thing I expected to do was flame Crema Cafe. Their commitment to organics is unparalleled. The cooking is creative and seasonal. The ice cream is the best I've had anywhere in the world. Unfortunately, their counter staff has often left something to be desired.. Today was a new low, however. One of my daughters, having had her fill of pizza, wanted the grilled cheese that is on the lunch menu. The counter staff basically said no and blamed boss's orders. So I then asked for the simple buttered pasta and Parmesan that was previously on the dinner menu. Can't be too much trouble to whip this up, right? Apparently it is for these folks. Again, I was told no with blame spread everywhere from the boss to the supposedly busy Tuesday date night to the fact that the menu doesn't accommodate children. This was actually said to me. Pros: Organics. Creative, seasonal menu. Ice cream. Ambience. Cons: Unaccomodating to reasonable requests to deviate from printed menu more

Me OH MY! THEY ARE NOW SERVING FOOD AND WINE! 10/7/2006

This is my very favorite place in the whole city. Whenever I want to make myself proud that I live in Minneapolis, I just go here! Pros: Great value, cozy, casual and hip! Cons: The outdoor patio isn't open in the winter. This is the most beautiful patio I've ever seen. more

You must try Crema! 8/1/2006

Crema Cafe has the best ice cream in minneapolis. If you're in the mood for great quality ice cream definitely go here. There are new flavors daily and you must try them all! Pros: Best Ice Cream, New Flavors Daily, Quality over quantity more

__sorbet to tingle the tastebuds__ 7/8/2006

The sorbet is fantastic. I believe the last two I had were blackberry cabernet and cherry cabernet. Try either of these with something complimenting, maybe vanilla or chocolate. Mmm! Pros: the variety of flavors, the outdoor patio, complimenting lighting more

What's not to like! 6/15/2006

This is the real deal. Italian ice, Italian setting, Italian owners. It doesn't get any better than this. Pros: Great people more

Expensive ice cream! 7/3/2005

Ice cream is expensive but good. However you can get sonny ice cream at a much cheaper price from your local lundy's supermarket. Pros: good ice cream Cons: expensive more

wonderful Italian icecream 7/20/2003

Really superb gelato, the first I have had state-side. The pastry I tried was not up to this level, but the atmosphere is perfect and this is a fabulous date place. Pros: ice cream Cons: pastries? more
