Thursday, Jan 31, 2013 we brought our beloved yellow lab, Sami to Dr. Chosa. She had all of sudden started having difficulty. Our outcome was not what we had hoped for but the care, kindness and respect shown to us was wonderful. Thank you to everyone who helped Sami, from the front desk on. We will never forget you. more

The new Veternarian that took over Courtenay Animal Hospital, Dr. Elizabeth Chosa, has a wonderful bedside manner. She volunteers her time for free exams at Island Pet Resort and Spa once a month. Dr. Chosa has some of the best advice and up to date information. I will recommend her with great confidence. more

What a wonder new addition to our county. Dr. Chosa is awesome and her bedside manner is great. She cares so much for the animals. Its refreshing to see new ideas and suggestions for our pets. I'll recommend her with confidence. more

STAY AWAY 12/2/2010

Dr. Maxwell and his staff were very quick to give me quotes and throw numbers at me but were not so quick to let me know that my pet would be okay (when I was obviously upset). He has untrained vet techs who stabbed my animal with a needle repeatedly (b/c they couldn't draw his blood successfully) and then took him in the back and did God knows what to him. I left with a big bill, a broken heart, and a sick dog who I ended up taking else where a week later. If I had a bigger wallet I am sure he would have shown me some compassion. more

Dr. Max hates animals 12/2/2010

PLEASE do not take your animals here..It is obvious that Dr. Maxwell and his front desk help truly hate animals and need to retire. He has also hired a new vet to help him and she will do everything to take your money and not fix the problem. She was rude and treated me like I was dumb. Bottom line..no compassion. People who write good reviews are his "upper-class" rich clients who are treated like royalty. more

You can find much better close by! 8/10/2010

Never felt comfortable there. Staff was not welcoming and always seemed bothered. Anyone dealing with our four-legged family members should be compassionate and friendly, however they always seemed robotic and annoyed. The vet himself was always rushed and non-communicative. The costs are incredibly ugly compared to many others in the area and would always end up much higher that we were quoted. We are much happier with the new team we've found to care for our pets and do not recommend Courtenay Animal Hospital. Please take the time and do the leg work to find a happier place to take your pets. more

what do "you" think? 1/19/2010

To: the ones who don;t understand the bad reviews.......you probably work there.\r \r To everyone else: listen to the verbage of the good reviews. don;t they sound like generic stories to rebuke the bad reviews? more

No better vet anywhere 3/21/2008

I, too, don't understand the negative feedback. Having been to numerous vets in this area and other parts of the country, my experience is that Dr. Maxwell and his staff are extraordinary. Long waits for treatment, stress and even chaos are part of any practice who sees both scheduled patients and emergencies. I also had to put one of my animals to sleep---she was too far gone to travel---the Dr. made a personal visit and she died in the comfort of her own bed surrounded by her family. I have nothing but praise for Dr. Maxwell and his staff. more

Very bad experience. 8/4/2007

Dr. Maxwell is not a very good veterinarian. I won't go back. My mother's dog suffered a reaction to the treatment and nearly died. Thank goodenss another vet was nearby to save the dog. My mother is a widow and this dog means the world to her. The poor animal was treated like just another dog at the clinic. Mom would have been destroyed if anything happened to this dog. Not a good experience and one I won't repeat. Cons: my mother's dog nearly died more

Professional care from both Dr. Maxwell and his staff 4/24/2007

I started using Courtenay Animal Hospital, when I moved to Merritt Island with my two dogs 1999. My dogs were 1 and 2 years old. Dr. Maxwell has seen them for anything from toe-nail clippings to surgery, into their now senior years. He has always been very professional, respectful, even loving and caring with my dogs. He always spends extra time with me discussing the issue(s) for which I brought my dog(s) in. He carefully explains answers to all of my questions. Over the years, I've come to enjoy him as a professional, as well as appreciate his great sense of humor, which is another sign of intelligence. I've found his ability to diagnose symptoms to be amazingly quick and accurate. He, has always called me promptly to follow-up with any lab results. His staff has called to check up after any visit which was not routine, and even just to see if my dogs did okay after vacinations. All of his staff has always been very friendly, professional and caring. Pros: Friendly, professional service and cusomer care for many years more

Courtenay Animal Hospital 3/2/2007

The doctor seemd scattered like he was not there or I just don't know. Really didn't appreciate some of his 'joking' remarks. My cat nearly died. He needs to get it together. I do not recommend this animal hospital. Never got a call back and I am glad. Pros: None that I can think of. Cons: Too many to mention at this time. more

What call back?? 10/6/2006

I read the review stating what a great vet Dr. Maxwell is and how the writer could not understand the bad reviews. Well, I can. The vet was average at best. And what is this call back service? I didn't get a call back asking about my pet. At least his technicians were nice. The doctor looked distracted. Pros: Nice technicians. more

Excellent Animal Hospital 7/4/2006

I cannot understand the negative reviews. I brought my dog in Monday, July 3, 2006. Dr. Maxwell and his staff could not have been better and kinder. Excellent treatment of my dog by everyone. She was determined to have liver disease and the medicine Dr. Maxwell prescribed is already making her better. I have been to Courtney Animal Hospital several times and each time my animals and us have been treated with courtesy and care. I recommend Courtenay Animal Hospital as a great place to bring your pets. Pros: animal treatment is caring and very good diagnosis more

Courtenay Animal Hospital. Not a good experience. 6/18/2006

Don't go there. I won't go back. My dogs and I were treated like we were part of an assembly line and it was not a good experience. I will use another vet next year. I should have checked this site for the rating first before going or asked people from my office for a good vet. Pros: At least the place was clean. Cons: Felt like I was being rushed out of the door. more

Get real 6/2/2006

We recently moved to the Melbourne area and my mom and I were looking for a vet. Someone suggested Dr. Maxwell. I took the dogs in for their shots and was treated really bad. The doc and his bunch acted like b/c I'm only 17 I wasn't worth their time. My mom breeds and shows very expensive dogs but the dogs were treated like you know what. I know I'm only 17 but having spent my life around dogs I know when they are treated badly and what care they need. Ours were treated very badly. I was treated like I was stupid. I told my mom what happened. She mentioned it to some neighbors who said they refuse to take their animals there. They gave us the number of another vet and he is wonderful. Cons: pet owner treated bad, animals treated rough more

special care 5/25/2006

Appreciated loving care of Maggie. Clear explaination of problem. Convient hours to schedule her recheck. Polite respectfull staff. Really liked the call back even after her recheck. Pros: respectful, clear explanation, really cared more
