Cougar Mountain Zoo 8/10/2006

Cougar Mountain Zoo is located in Issaquah. This is a very small zoo that seems to specialize in animals that you wouldn't normally see at a zoo. They have reindeer, which is really neat. I had never seen a reindeer in real life! They have a Christmas festival where kids can meet Santa and the reindeer, but we haven't done that (the parking lot seems small and I have parking anxiety). What I remember most is the beautiful parrots that they have at the zoo. The birds are out in the open and it's fun to be able to see them up close. Admission, the birthday parties and the gift shop all seem expensive so we don't go there very often. But we really enjoy it when we do. more

great compliment to Woodland 8/21/2005

This zoo is obviously not as famous as the Woodland Park Zoo. Well, it is not trying to be. The Cougar Mountain Zoo is nestled on the north facing slope of Cougar Mountain in the City of Issaquah. Since it's only 15 miles from Seattle and close to I-90. It's an easy place to get to for people in Seattle and Eastside residents. Because the primay goal of the zoo is endangered species and education, you will see lots of interesting animals like cougars, Macaws Lemurs and many others. So make sure to bring your family here for a fun day. more

A small but interesting zoo off the beaten path 8/21/2005

Cougar Mountain specializes in, well, cougars - but they have plenty of other animals. Lots of colorful Macaws and other birds you can interact with, as well as some marsupials and other interesting critters. It's up in the mountains of Issaquah so even getting there is a pleasure! It's reminiscent of the small zoo's I rememer from the 60's - although much nicer, especially for the animals. Birthday parties are fun and Santa visits over the holidays. It won't replace Woodland Park, but then it's not trying to. Enjoyale more

A smaller Zoo to enjoy the wildlife 8/21/2005

The Cougar Mountain Zoo is perfect for a 1/2 day trip with your family. The Zoo specializes in cougars, reindeer and exotic birds. Although small, you can get up close to the animal exhibits and really see the animals. Some animals can even be hand fed fruits available for a small charge. The Zoo has a special Santa's Workshop during the holiday season with the many reindeer that call it home. Be sure to go early in the season, as it does get busy. Bring your camera and be sure to check out the times of the lectures by the zoo staff- it'll give you some great information to make your visit complete. more

good varieties of macaws 8/16/2005

this zoo is close to downtown Issaquah, with good vista for Lake Sammamish and the Cascade Mountains. It has some beautiful and colorful macaws. Christmas special events with the reindeers are also enjoyable. I like to buy some of the apple slices ($1.5 per box) to hand feed them. The two cougars are fascinating. more
