Cosmos Cafe

I have lived in Charlotte almost my whole life and Cosmos really did start out great. Unfortunately I've given them about 4 chances in the past year and every time I have been more disappointed than the last. The service is beyond awful there and the manager could really care less and that is something that is very apparent to any diner. We were sitting there at a table and they actually removed every single table from around us so we were the only one there...so awkward and really just odd. They were making a dance floor for later but the entire restaurant was empty so why they chose to seat us there I don't know. Every time I've gone I've had to wait at least 45 min for my food and it just isn't worth it. This place may be good for drinks but definitely not for dinner. \r more

My family and I had tickets to a show at 8pm. We were meeting friends before the show and had to be out of the restaurant by 7:15. We were excited because we usually had tickets to shows on Sunday nights when Cosmos was closed. This was the last show in our season package and they were for Saturday night which meant that we could finally dine at Cosmos beforehand. I was really looking forward to having a cocktail off their extensive cocktail menu. We arrived at 5:40 and were greeted at the door by the hostess and a waitperson. We were seated immediately and given menus by the hostess. We looked at the menus and decided what we would order. And then we sat. And sat. And sat. I said ""Lets close our menus to signify that we're ready."" Several members of the waitstaff walk passed our table several times. No one came over to take a drink order or to check on us. I saw a group of about 4-5 waitresses congregating in the back near the kitchen which was 7 feet from our table. There was one other table with patrons so I don't know what the hold up was. At this point, I got a bad feeling about the place. If the kitchen staff was as slow as the waitstaff, we wouldn't get out on time. At 6:05 we decided to leave. The hostess simply said ""Bye! Have a good night!"" We went down the street to Libretto's where we were seated promptly and the waitress came over within minutes. We ordered, ate and were out the door by 7:15 and I spent half the amount of money too. Cosmos should stop advertising that it's a ""Cafe"", implying that it's a restaurant. I'm only guessing but I think it caters more to the bar patrons that come later in the evening. It's not really a destination if you're looking to have a dinner with the family. If you're looking for the latter, go somewhere else. I'm giving it one star only because the review wouldn't go thru without some kind of rating. If I could give it none, I would. Went here last Wednesday with some friends (Rea Rd location) and had an overall poor experience. First we got some drinks at the bar and had trouble hearing each other because the interior was so loud and echoing. Not a huge fan of the decor, which I think was trying to be cool and edgy but just ended up being kind of bizarre. Ex, there was this weird ballooney red fabric thing dangling down from the ceiling over the bar… I felt like I was about to be sucked up inside of an alien machine from War of the Worlds. Probably not the feel they were going for. Despite our misgivings we decided to stay for dinner. The food was extremely mediocre (which is saying something because as a college student living mainly on easy mac I'm not a choosy eater by any means), the one thing that will really stick with me was the service, which was very slow and our server was abrupt to the point of being rude. My friends and I went to Cosmos for first time for latin night on thursday, ""The server"".. I'm sorry.. the order taker...took our order and for the second round of drinks, we asked her politely if the beers could be coulder. Her answer was: Servers don't have control over it, there is nothing I can do about it. That is the bartender job, she was reaaly rude and offensive, every time she would pass by our table, she would give us a dirty look. That woman doesn't deserve to be part of the hospitality industry, she should be fired. The manager was polite, but didn't really give us a satisfactory answer to the issue. I LOVE this place! Amazing atmosphere, Great service, All kinds of food, They have everything from pizza and burgers to filet mignon and sushi, Awesome drink specials! You just have to go in and see for yourself! Pros: Over 50 Martinis! 1/2 Off on Wednesdays! Cons: They won't let me move in! more

Wentin at 10:00 with a party of 10 and the waiter could not have been ruder. We had to tell him that we wanted a certain bottle of wine 3 times before we actually got it. In addition, a few guys at our table got the wrong bottle of wine and waiter could have cared less! They took our food away from the table before we were finished. I was completely skeptical when I read in the E&T Cosmos Cafe had created a $35 hamburger. My wife begged me to take her Uptown for dinner, so I suggested we check out the burger. Atmosphere was nice- server was excellent and the food was even better! Our server- male-was awesome and made some really nice drink and food recommendations. My wife ordered the fish special- perfectly cooked and I ordered the burger...........TO DIE FOR!!!!!!! We are from NYC and not since my days dining there have I had such creative food. Saturday night.5:30 ish\r The cstomer service was bad from the beginning of our visit.\r The girls at the front door were pleasant, but the one that seated us just took off as if she was busy...? We were the only customer there. she placed the menus on the table and left before we were at the table, she looked back to make sure we were at the right table ( I guess) I told my husband why didn't she just toss them over the ""balcony ""and say...to us there you go... I was kinda kidding\r That was odd...\r The waitress pleasant but .... The service was terrible. She messed up my main course, order. I cxould not finish my meal. I asked for the sauce on the side..The food was ok; but ...the service made the experiece awful.\r We ordered a dessert that had the option of ice cream, the ice cream came after we had finished our dessert... by some one else not our waitress The coffee was awful.\r I will not recommend this , sorry to the chef and the owners. Cosmo's is the best place to be on a Thurs. night (latin night) The stage is converted to a dance floor and everyone is dancing to great salsa, meringue and reggaeton music. Go upstairs for drinks cuz the downstairs bar is too crowded. Free to get in and a guaranteed good time. Pros: free, good music, classy Cons: crowded more

The bartenders tend to be slow at times, but 1/2 off martini nights are a good time. Age tends to be mid 20's and up. Pros: Martinis, Atmosphere more

Classy without being pretentious, there's no cover, usually minimal wait but still a pretty full house, great crowd, sexy bartenders, two levels... it's one of our favorite places to go when we don't have any specific destination. More than once we've gone intending to start the night there but finishing it there too. Expect to see lots of toned men in snug black slacks and lots of ladies averaging about 5 years younger in age than their male counterparts. The best things have got to be the all night food (it's not the hugest selection, but covers all your major appetizers and then some), the expansive martini list... This place might be OK if it fired its management staff. watch out for the big, dumb looking-guy (whoops, there is no monopoly on rudeness and stupidity here. You may have to look around a bit). And no, I'm not nor ever have been an employee of Cosmos. I just had the worst restaurant/bar experience of my life in the place. more
