Nothing Special 1/10/2003

Not sure why the locals go to the mat for this place ... most all of the transplants we've talked to feel the same way. Hello Minnesotans ... get out and live a little! The malts are okay, the fries are okay and the burgers are average at best. The interior is a dump and the help needs a makeover. Cons: Mediocre Everything more

Miss It Bad! 12/12/2002

I recently moved to new Orleans from Minneapolis. I didn't discover the Convention Grill until about 2 years ago, when my then-girlfriend introduced me to it. At least once a week after that I either sat in one of their big wooden booths or stood at the counter waiting for an order to go. Service was always friendly. I always had the same thing, a burger with sauteed mushrooms and onions, and a chocolate/caramel shake. Where else can you get a shake, and still have clumps of real caramel in it? On the cold days, I added some of their great chicken soup. Not a week has passed since I moved down here where I have not thought about the Grill and wanted to return! more

Simple but Great! 9/24/2002

Very friendly staff and waiters. This is key considering what a hastle 9 screaming kids can be. The menu is simple, but everything is good and edilbe. The hambergers are tasty and a basket of fried will serve 2 -3 people ( the fries are good also). The best thing is the shakes and malts, reminisent of old fashion soda fountain quality that I can remember way back when. The place gets crowed, but the table turn over pretty quick and you can get in and out quickly and enjoy a great tasting meal. Pros: hambergers & Fries, shakes,, fast friendly service Cons: few menu items more

The hamburgers and fries are classic, and the ice-cream sodas are lovingly made. But the best thing about the Grill is the ambiance, the sense that it gives you that you have stepped back in time, at least for lunch. Pros: location, food/service, ambiance Cons: somewhat limited menu, usually crowded, no delivery more
