Editorial review from Citysearch 12/26/2013

if you think your dog or pet has a serious condition, take it first to Dove Lewis Clinic downtown portland. I took my dog to the Companion pet clinic which i had for over ten years and after the second visit I took her to Dove lewis. I can't say it was Companion pet clinics fault but i wont trust the clinic with my dogs life again. Maybe for vaccinations for simple procedures but not if I even think my dog is sick. After over 1000.00 in vet bills, i was faced with thousands more no promise of any hope. Companion Pet Clinic was a waste of both my time and money. more

Overcharged and the vet doesn't listen 11/13/2011

I called there to inquire about getting medication for worms. I knew what was wrong with my dog when he was losing weight, eating like crazy and very tired. They told me that over the counter worming medication was not good enough so I should bring him in. I brought him in and tried to explain that he had worms and just needed medicine. That vet ran two hundred dollars of lab tests that came back totally normal. Then ran a forty five dollar fecal test that proved what I said was correct. (maybe they should have run that test first.) I got three pills that the vet said was ""very expensive"" and she was right. Three hundred and sixty dollars later, the dog was diagnosed with worms, just like I told them. This is not the only bad experience. My dog was given a rabies booster awhile back and they never recorded it so now my dog has to be revaccinated because there is no record. We will be changing vets. It is a shame that people use a person's love for their pet to make them richer. DON'T GO TO THIS VET IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LOT OF MONEY. more

Be ready for heartache and deception 3/19/2011

Their coupon seems good until you learn there is an extra charge for a catheter and fluids in case of an emergency. WHAT? All of a sudden the charge is much higher that the last vet you called. Oh, and should I mention our baby boy of only 8 months died on their table...being neutered. BEWARE and BEWARNED more

Regret ever coming here. 3/15/2011

This place has ripped me off enough times now that I am finally done with them. I have same issues as people posted here with Ear Cleaning ripoff's, eyes, etc.. I urge you to listen to other reviewers and avoid this place. The hidden fee's and charging before asking for consent is ridiculous. We have gone for follow ups that were supposed to be part of the original cost and they charged us and re-ran tests that we already knew the results to. 0 Stars if it were an option. more

Helped us out on a weekend. 2/10/2011

We had a great experience with our dog there. He got into a little scrap with one of the neighbor's dogs, and we didn't know where to go. They were open on the weekend, and they could see us right away. They patched up our dog, they were friendly and the price was decent. We will be back! more

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! 1/14/2011

Horrible! Horrible! Horrible! Although my first visit was fine, with an older doc, and he was very nice, I will NEVER go to Companion Pet Clinic in Hillsboro again! What a night mare! On this recent visit, my dog was bleeding, and I was told my dog has an UTI and received antibiotic's and told she would be fine. Well, she started bleeding again shortly after the biotics ran out, and I called for more. I was told to bring her back in. As ridiculous as it seemed, since I was just there... I brought her back. The female vet I saw was beyond the rudest woman I have ever met in my life! Once she closed the doors, she started raising her voice and telling me off. She told me if I didn't get my dog fixed right now, that her uterius is going to blow up and she would DIE. Seriously! I said "What? I was told she would be fine when I was last here." I mentioned that I have seen two totally different vets at the same clinic within 10 days of each other, with two totally different diagno more

DO NOT take your pets here please!!! 12/30/2010

This is on the Hillsboro Companion Pet Clinic Took my 12 week old puppy in for a simple Hernia Operation and they SPAYED HER. They said I knew this all along and discussed it with me which they NEVER DID. Even called me a liar and said she would not be able to be bred anyway. So in a sense they took it upon themselves to make sure she would not breed pups with "possible" hernias. My research shows different. Besides that (and all reputable Vets knows this) females should not be spayed until they are between 6-7 months old! DO NOT TAKE ANY OF YOUR PETS THERE! more

Dissappointed 11/12/2010

Hillsboro companion pet clinic is a rip off! They only want your money, and have no care about your pet. They require you pay for a new pet exam every time you walk thru the clinic doors even if it's only been a short time since your last visit. If you care about your pet do not, I repeat ,do not go to this clinic. more

My cat is a fan. 3/15/2010

This clinic is always very clean, and pretty comfortable. It doesn't smell like a vet clinic at all. It's a newer building, and they seem like they keep it up. Exam fees are low, diagnostic and lab fees seem to be about typical. Their digital x-ray is very cool. Nothing is free, but they are competitive. Overall, their doctors are friendly and they do a good job. I bring my cat there for whatever she needs - and we leave happy every time. It is a walk-in clinic. I just bring a magazine and wait for an opening. It always works out in the end. more

Owner is a terrible vet 12/5/2009

I've been taking my dog to Companion since he was 9 weeks old, he's now six. Sometimes there were issues such as when they were showing me his knees were bad, they popped them out, and caused him to limp for 4 weeks whenever we went on a walk that was more than a block or he jumped down from the couch. He hasn't really been the same since. Pros: walk ins welcome, open til 8pm on weekdays Cons: can't trust the owner more

horrible clinic and unproffesional doctor 6/26/2009

We took our cat to the hillsboro companion pet clinic. but never again. we had our cat fixed when we went to pick him up they said he was fine and normal. upon arriving home and getting him out of his carrier we realized he was bleeding bad. i called the vet clinic twice they said if it really concerned me i could bring him back in and i did but with in 5 minutes they sent me back out the door and said he was fine and the bleeding was normal. after 2 more hours at home and a steady stream of blood still flowing i began to call other pet clinics in the are and they all said it was far from normal and we needed to get our cat to a vet hospital immediately. upon arriving at the vet hospital they rushed our cat back and began running tests to see if he was anemic and told us they would need to keep him and monitor him. they people at companion pet clinic dont know what they are talking about and could have cost our cat his life if we listened to their advice. i will never take any of my p more

Friendly and Reasonable Rates 1/6/2009

I had my two large puppies fixed at this vet clinic spring of 2008. I got the appointment within a week, the staff was very friendly, helpful to my questions, and compassionate about the animals. The rates beat the local vets I called first. My friend recommended this clinic first, and my experience was very pleasant. more

uncaring, expensive and dishonest 10/28/2008

Don't be lured to companion pet clinics by their "low" prices. They will quote you once price before treatment, and charge you another by adding all sorts of small items that they did not bother to tell you about beforehand. They will also give your dog unnecessary vaccines which NO other vet gives (e.g. Corona). They will not notify you when your dog needs a vaccination, and then when you come in late they will hike up the price claiming that the vaccination is more expensive b/c you are doing it late. They more than make up for their "cheap" prices by their dishonest tactics, and by nickeling and diming you for small services that a normal vet wouldn't even think of charging for. Save yourself the frustration, and find a real clinic that truly cares about their patients, and is upfront about their pricing. Believe me, it won't be more expensive, and you'll feel like the reason they are there is to treat your pet, rather than to treat you as a milking cash cow. more

Companion Pet Clinic in Gresham 10/11/2008

The Dr's and staff are compassionate! Prices are very reasonable and they love animals. I'v been a customer for 18 years and they've treated my rescue older dogs, cats, geese, rabbits and iguana. Want a great vet, please consider these good folks,\r \r Sherry C. more

I will always take my pets here 10/10/2008

I have been taking my cats and dogs here for over 20 years. The have a low turnover of staff, and a high rate of customer service. The front desk folks are always attentive (busy, yes, but attentive and polite). The vet techs are THE BEST and the vets are very compassionate. They spend enough time with patients, and are careful to give you your options and treatment information. The prices here are better than most places as well, which is a giant plus, esp since we have 5 cats and 2 dogs. I dont think the wait is any longer than anywhere else. I know I've waited at a Dr's office much long on many occasions. I'll stay with these guys. more

Reasonable Vists Doesn't cost & arm & leg 8/20/2008

They are in the slow side . The staff up front needs to be more friendly , but always had decent visits with Vet doctors . Never had a problem with them service are always wonderful. Always get very good vet doctors very caring about your pets. And your money is worth while . I been there for almost 2 years since I moved here. When my dog needed surgery on his mouth to remove a tooth that was bothering him . And of course it is expensive . They were nice enough to let me make payments . IT was reasonable surgery compare to other vet offices . So I would recommend to take your pets there. more

They find reasons to overcharge.. 7/8/2008

I have been going to Companion Pet Clinic for many years and think they find reasons to overcharge. \r For example, in February of this year, 08, my dog went in for a infection on his foot and I was billed 26.50 for the exam and 18.81(45.31) for the antibiotics for his foot. I went in July, 08, the doctor told me she was going to take him into the back to trim his hair around his foot to get a better look and that I could wait in the waiting room. He came out with a bandage on his foot and I was charged 26.50 for the exam, 45.00 for technician time, 20.00 for the bandage and 12.94 for the antibiotics (104.44) I questioned the technician charge and bandage charge and the receptionist clearly looks irritated that I asked and offers an explanation that could be given to a 4 year old. Plus, my dog has already ripped off the bandage, just 3 hours after it was placed.\r Pros: They are apparently less expensive than elsewhere, so I hear Cons: They find other reasons to get your money. more
