Editorial review from Citysearch 4/10/2014

This was the first time I dined at Comos along with 5 others. We all agree that this was some of the best pizza we have ever had. The service was excellent and in a great atmosphere we all had a wonderfull time.\r The great selection of beer, premium liquer and excellent food topped off the evening. I cant wait to go back to try the filet migon that I was told was excelllent.\r All in all it was a great night at a reasonable price.\r We will be back. more

Hi, warning to all who would eat at 3/7/2012

Hi, warning to all who would eat at this place, it is so dirty and the bathrooms have things everywhere the bar stinks. the food will make u sick and it is a hazard to public health of individuals. The chicken is never cooked all the way threw the pasta is mushy. The meatballs are a week old the red head waitress told us not to eat the bread because the servers pick out of trash and out it back, along with the potatoes. The salad is stored in used trash bags. We told the owner that we got sick and we didn't ask for money we just wanted to let her know and my 4 year old daughter who was standing by me at the time when i spoke to the owner, had to witness the owner swear at her mom the owner had told me to go f myself and to get out of her restaurant. The owner had an unlit cig hanging from her mouth like a scam artist car dealer from the ghetto and some fat ass cook who is about 321 lbs with long nails named mike had the nerve to pick his nails with a toothpick. more

Waitress begged for a larger tip 8/23/2011

My boyfriend and I made our second annual pilgrimage to the Woodward Dream Cruise this past weeked. Last year we ate at Comos and had a really good time. We were once again looking forward to dining there, not so much for the food, but for the unique and fun atmosphere and to be outside to enjoy the weather.\r \r Unfortunately, not quite as fun as last year. When we arrived, I was told to seat myself (not a problem), but I also had to wipe down my own table because it had recently rained. When our waitress came over, she took our drink orders, but seemed really pre-occupied. (the restaurant was about half full). No conversation or even a smile. After our drinks came, we ordered our food. This took about 10 or 15 minutes .. still not so bad. \r \r After our order, my boyfriend went to the restroom. When he was gone, our waitress came back to the table to let me know that they were out of my stuffed shrimp dinner and would I like fried shrimp instead. As she said this, no aplology, no smile, just an annoyed young lady who acted like I was stressing her out. I told her no I did not want shrimp and would like to see a menu. I could tell she wasn't happy about this. I got the menu then waited about 15 minutes to re-order my food (we were both hungry as it was about 8 pm). When our food was delivered, she brough it without any silverware or ketchup or other condiments. She mentioned to us that she would bring them out, then went to the next table to talk to her other customers and prormptly forgot about us. After about 10 minutes, I knew she was never coming back. As my boyfirends pasta got colder, he decided to look for these things on his own. He found our waitress, asked her where the sliverware was and she didn't even recognize him as her customer, told him to ask his waitress for what he neeeded, but no offer to just do it herself. He just ended up grabbing it from the restaurant indoors. We ate our food. My cheeseburger was terrible and missing the coleslaw. His pasta was cold. But, no one to check on us and not a snowballs chance in hell of getting our food fixed. And now the best part. Our waitress later realizes that we need our check and that she has totally forgotten our silverware and furthermore, was actually talking to her customer when she told my boyfriend to find his waitress. She explains to us that she has only worked there a short time, etc. She hands us our bill and tells us that the gratuity is already on the bill (I've never heard of this for a party of 2). Then we ask her to wait while we pay her (we want to get out a.s.a.p.). Our bill was $40. SHe asks my boyfriend how much change he wants back from his $50. He is embarrassed and says $5. I am just seeing red and don't say anything. I am just shocked. When she comes back, she gives him the entire amount of change and waits to see if he will give her an additional tip, while explaining to us that she has student loans. Unbelievable! She has no clue what it is to be a server, to serve or to get good service. I just couldn't believe the nerve. So needless to say, that was our second and last trip to Comos. Bad food, bad service, bad everything. more

Who charges 20% gratuity for a table of Four? 8/21/2011

My husband and I, along with two male friend, went to Como's for dinner last night. Our experience didn't start poorly. A girl sitting at a desk right by the door told us we could sit where-ever, and we didn't wait more than 5 minutes for someone to drop off menus or the waiter to show up. The waiter didn't seem all that bad, he joked with us about how everyone was getting water except one. When we chose our spot, there were only two sets of silverware, and it remained that way all night. Our drinks came quickly, and were refilled when needed. We ordered without problems, but it was when the food arrived that things started to go downhill. I paid $10 for a deluxe chicken sandwich with no more than ten fries, and the waiter forgot to bring my coleslaw. He also forgot my husbands salad (which he ordered with french dressing, and it wasn't until the salad was brought out that we were informed they didn't have french, even though he asked if they did). On top of that, one friend ordered just the fish sandwich, and it arrived deluxe. He was short on cash that night, and ended up using the rest of what he brought just to pay the extra $4 for ten fries. The lettuce on my sandwich, and my husbands salad, was the white inter layer of iceberg lettuce and was already turning pink and yellow along the edges. After finishing our meal, our waiter brought our check. My husband asked if he could divide it up, as we clearly were not a family with small children (the only time you should assume its all on one check), but a group of friends eating out together. He explained ""You would have had to tell me that at the beginning."" If you couldn't divide the check up after giving it to a patron, shouldn't you ask how the check will be divided at the beginning? As it was, we all had a strange assortment of bills, and my husband and I only had large bills. I don't have a problem buying dinner for my friends, but the waiter made things complicated by not asking if the check was divided. The next surprise we found is that there is a 20% gratuity for a table of FOUR. Not only was our service not worthy of 13% for a tip (I usually tip 15% if I didn't have complaints), but I NEVER tip 20% unless the entire dinning experience was perfect. I have NEVER heard of a place charging a 20% gratuity, much less for a table of four. I was so irritated by the time we left I wanted to speak with a manager, but my husband encouraged me to let it go and just leave. Overall, the food was only so-so for an outrageous price, and the service was shitty at best. 8/21/2011 more

Poor Service :( 4/25/2011

I'm really disappointed to write this review. I have never even been tempted to write a review for any other establishment, but after my last few visits to Como's I feel the need to express my opinion. \r \r First off, I absolutely LOVE the atmosphere of Como's. I especially enjoy the patio area. What I am writing about is the exceptionally poor service: extremely long waits to even be greeted by a server and very little follow through with service. The consistently poor service has not kept me from returning to Como's, as I do enjoy the food and environment.\r \r The only negative thing about this restaurant is the service. It is about as poor as it gets. Often times servers or bartenders will avoid eye contact and appear to go out of their way not to serve you.\r \r The last time I was there (this past weekend) we had to tell a manager where we were sitting because we had been sitting for about 15 minutes without anyone coming to the table. Once we got a server to help us she was polite, but just did the bare minimum - never came to check on us once we had our food or to see if we wanted another round. \r \r The visit before this past one, we sat at the patio bar and were just interested in getting a few drinks before going to see a show. It took a very long time to get a drink and the bar was not crowded at all. Another time we sat inside at the bar and had the same problem - I believe it took us over 30 minutes to get our check at the end of our meal. It seems as if the bartenders work in a way such that if they were not the initial person that served you then they will not help you. We would often see another bartender but he would not serve us. \r \r I love eating at local restaurants and supporting independent companies, and as I previously stated, I am very sad to leave this poor review. I hope that something good comes of it - I will probably go back a few more times and hope for the best! more

Tried and True Ferndale classic 12/2/2010

For years my family and I have been frequenting Como's and I am sad to see that so many people haven't had the wonderful experiences that I've had since before I could walk! Sure things change, but Como's has an undeniable history that outdates almost every other establishment in ferndale. They've been making pizza for almost 50 years, and I'm telling you they know what they're doing. The dough is out of this world and the sauce is the perfect balance of sweetness, spicyness, and tang.\r And while everywhere else waiters come and go, there are waitresses who have been there since comos opened. I always try to sit in Bobby's section for dinner and if I come for the late night crowd i always search out the owner for the latest gossip and a piece of sicilian wisdom. She's there every night and that is commitment. \r All and all, I love Como's, I love the decorations, the food, and the entertaining people i meet there every time i go. more

Always a good time 12/2/2010

I have been going to Como's for years now and it's still one of my favorite places in Ferndale. The Pizza is AWESOME, the atmosphere is diverse and accepting (I always feel at home) and tell me where else you can get a full pitcher of beer for $5!? I am surprised by all the negative reviews because I can not relate AT ALL!!! I will continue to be a happy patron and anyone who has had a bad experience I suggest you try Como's again they have VERY reasonably priced drinks and right now they have half off pizza's during the day. more

COMO'S is known for the Atmosphere, not the food:) 9/28/2010

COMO'S is the BEEESSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!! I have been going for YEARS and I love the place. While the food is good and the PIZZA is AWESOME, I don't think people necessarily visit Como's for the food alone. It's the festive party atmosphere that draws people into COMO'S and the fact that they are a very diverse and intertwined place. Anyone can go there and feel at home and the staff is very matter-of-fact but nice. They don't tolerate crap though, because frankly, they are usually too busy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you have had an iffy or bad experience there, GO AGAIN!!! Trust me, they rock. And yes, the COOL PEOPLE go there:) more

My Thoughts On Comos....... 5/27/2010

Planning a Comos outing w/girlfriends, this will be my 4th visit & happened to come across the reviews. I thought I'd read 2or3 & move on, WRONG..........I read ALL 39, it was like a 20 car pile-up, 1 accident after another hitting each 1 harder than the other/LOL It really isn't funny but it made me remember the atmosphere, servers, food, drinks & the service we had received the 3 times past. *WAITSTAFF: 1 of my friends had a bit of a run in w/a waitress because she wouldn't write the order down{she chose to memorize it} & she wasn't your typical bubbly, smiley type{{no emotion, very straight faced}} Strictly business, very close to ""PISSY"". My friend proceeded to give her ""attitude"" She treated the waitress the way she felt she was treated{GOT KINDA UGLY} Upon leaving I ended up finding the waitress & apologized for my friends behavior>Heres Why: We loved the Atmosphere, enjoyed the band that was playing, our drinks{gin & grapefruit-ONLY$3.00}& the patio is GREAT, it's a completely different feel-Like someone else explained: You feel as if your at a friends *Back Yard Party* What I'm trying to say is that out of those 5 things there was 1 ""DOWNER"" So What ,the girl chose to memorize our order!!!! She could of got her crystal ball & told ""US"" what we were ordering........As long as she came back to the table w/what we wanted,""WHO CARES""---As far as her attitude was concerned, I see it like this: She busted her butt for more than a ""FEW"" hours through ""CROWDS"" of people dancing, talking ,smoking, drinking, not giving her the ""Right Of Way"" all while taking the customers orders over the Very Loud music of the bar & patio & just think............She Never wrote a single thing down, I call that talent. Just because she didn't *KISS OUR BUTT* My mother always told me;""YOU CATCH MORE FLIES WITH HONEY THAN VINEGAR"" I guarantee that if my friend would of been a bit kinder, the waitress would have to...........""YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE"" Oh yah, the pizza: On a *1 to *10 scale=*7* *I AM NOT A PUSH-OVER BY ANY MEANS, I JUST BELIEVE IN TREATING PEOPLE THE WAY YOU EXPECT TO BE TREATED..................... :) COLLEEN CREIGHTON OSBORNE* Pros: Atmosphere!!!!! Cons: $$$$$MENU$$$$$ more

Horrible......only word that comes to mind 1/31/2010

I had been a patron of Como's for years...\r i can actually remember when the food was good...\r on a recent visit with 5 others..the food was disgusting..\r Pizza tasted like bread with ragu\r Pasta looked dark brown and was not consumed...when we complained we were told noone else complained that evening\r The dinner rolls were hamburger buns\r One of the party ordered Crown on the rocks $9.00 for a single shot\r Tip was added into the bill without telling us...\r overall the worst most embarrassing trip ever.. as i suggested we eat there..\r I would NOT go back for free.......would not take my DOG to eat there\r so if i can save one person from this horrible place...stay home and save your money....... Pros: terrible food at inflated prices Cons: allowing this place to remain in business more

Positive Experience 11/8/2009

We ate at Como's Saturday night for the first time. We ate upstairs due to we had a reservation with 8 people. The service was very very good. Food came fast and drinks were kept full. Very attentive staff. Antipasto salad was excellent with generous serving. Pizza was good. The outside atmosphere was very pretty with all the lights. Overall a great night. We did not experiece any of the issues the bad reviews stated. Maybe the feedback allowed Como's to readjust some things. Pros: great service, good food more

Mediocre food, unprofessional staff 9/28/2009

Good pizza, garbage service. 9/1/2009

A couple of months ago, I ordered a pizza, delivered, from Como's. Two and a half hours later the driver is knocking on my door. This evening I thought I'd give them another chance, half hour late, cold pizza. Como's has been around for a long time, they should really have a better grasp on what they are doing than this. Skip it, go somewhere that appreciates their customers, not just their wallets. Pros: Good Pizza Cons: Terrible service, EXTREMELY slow delivery more
