Unbelievable service! 2/13/2011

I came into this store after visiting LensCrafters on Boylston St with a broken lens that was under two years old. They were also extremely helpful and told me that this was a polycarbonate lens that shouldn't break in such a short period of time, and to take it back to the place where I originally purchased it, a Cohen's optical store. Well, sadly, that store is in New York and I wasn't going to head back to New York for a simple eyeglass lens. That is, until I got the estimate from LensCrafters for $190!! Suddenly, the drive back to NY was worth it. I thought before I did anything I would stop into Cohen's here in Boston and see if they could do anything. Dolly, the owner of this Newbury St. store, called the New York store for me, and we both talked to the woman there with little success. It looked like I would have to mail them back to New York to be examined in hopes that they might possibly replace them. As I was preparing to leave, Dolly told me to leave the glasses with her and come back in half an hour. When I did, she had replaced my lens for FREE and told me that it was not right for my lens to have broken so quickly and then to have to wait while they were examined a state away. I was stunned and will recommend this store to anyone that needs new glasses, and plan on coming back when I decide to replace my current frames. Thanks Dolly! more

Dawn was EXTREMELY helpful 8/9/2010

I recently went into this location and I was helped by this absolutely delightful young lady named Dawn. I strongly recommend that if you need glasses that you go in and see Dawn. She is very knowledgeable and eager to help. more

Mixed Messages 4/8/2010

The reason you will see mixed reviews about this location is because the manager (franchise owner?) Dolly, is absolutely delightful, full of fun, enthusiastic, willing to work within your budget, and extremely helpful.\r \r Her assistant is the exact opposite. She never even bothered to get up off her stool the 3 times I went into the store. Maybe she's disabled but I don't think so. \r \r I bought frames and lenses that were nearly $1,000 before my insurance kicked in (still over $600 even with insurance) and when I went to pick them up, Dolly was busy so unfortunately her assistant helped me. My glasses needed a bit of adjusting, and that girl proceeded to BEND THE FRAMES right in front of me! Did I mention they were nearly $1,000?!! I was horrified! And they still don't fit right but I could NOT bear to watch her bending them anymore. When I got home, they needed to be cleaned because she didn't clean them after manhandling them and I realized that I didn't even get cleaning solution or a cloth!\r \r Dolly, if you read this, I love my new frames and would send anyone and every there BUT you are doing yourself and your terrific shop a huge disservice by keeping that woman employed. If you're related, tell her nepotism went out with the dark ages and she needs to go sulk somewhere else.\r \r Bottom line? Wait for Dolly to assist you - you will get terrific results. If she's busy, walk out and come back later. Pros: Dolly and her excellent service Cons: Her assistant and her dreadful attitude more

Friendly, helpful service 6/21/2009

The woman who helped me in this shop was very helpful and did not try to push me to buy something. I wound up not finding what I wanted here, but I can recommend them for service. Pros: Nice service Cons: I didn't find the frame for me more

In-style frames 3/24/2009

I liked this place because the store owner helped me pick out a great pair of glasses. She is a nice lady with good taste in frames. The store has all the latest brands - Prada, CK, Dior, Tag, Armani etc. along with random stylish frames for anyone. I think glasses shopping can be a pain, but the owner definitely helped direct me to well-shaped frames from the start. Good place! And it's also convenient if you want to order/pick-up contacts. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

The best eyewear boutique in the Boston area! 1/16/2009

I have been looking for months for just the right pair of glasses. I went to nearly every eyewear boutique in Boston/Cambridge/Newton and have to say that not only does Cohens have the best selection and price range, but the staff was fantastic! I actually went in three times, once just to check it out, a second to actually purchase a pair, and a third to pick up my glasses an hour later. Each time I was greeted with a warm welcome and was always impressed with the costumer service offered. (They actually remembered my name) Dolly was the biggest help! She listened to what look I wanted, yet she was honest if she didn't think a pair I would try on was flattering. She finally guided me to the perfect, trendy, but not too trendy pair. Each day, I have received multiple compliments on the glasses I purchased and have referred many collegues who have all had the same experience. I highly recommend. (Newbury Street location). Pros: Great Staff Cons: Parking, garden level more

Check this place out if you want to experience RUDE customer service 7/16/2008

2000 characters is not enough space to describe what nonsense I've had to put up with. The girl on the phone was not only rude, but also condescending. I must have caught ""Dawn"" on a bad day. That might have been a good excuse, but I had to call back several times. She was consistently rude and condescending.\r Overall, everything else was just OK. I would only go back if this was the last eye doctor in Boston. No, scratch that, I would drive 500 miles out of my way to avoid this place. more

Experience bad service 6/15/2007

To the owner of this store:\r \r The service in Washington Street was not as good as the one in Newbury street.\r \r Some staff in this store might provide inaccurate infor such as the policy of the store.\r \r I would like to make a complain to the headquater but the official website do not have the entry. more

Wonderful discovery 11/1/2006

I hadn't known this place existed, but I was quite happy to find it on Newbury Street. The staff is very knowledgeable and helped me pick out a terrific fashionable pair of Alain Mikli glasses. The store's interior made me feel like I was in a Parisian boutique. My prescription is tough to get right, but the doctor's and optician's teamwork helped make me feel (and see) wonderful. I've been elsewhere and have gotten cheaper materials for my glasses, but Dr. Baumal spent time explaining the options that made me love my glasses even more. I highly recommend Dolly and Dawn for their exquisite taste and patience as they made the process painless and fun! Best doctor and best staff. Great merchandise! Pros: ambience, selection, knowledge Cons: parking, signage more
