Clovis Pet Hospital

Very good doctors and friendly staff. The staff does their best to accommodate and very concerned about the patients' pets. My puppy had an emergency and they got him right in. The waiting room was completely packed and since they worked me in, I was going to have to wait. I was in the waiting room for about 10 minutes and one of the staff came by and saw that my puppy was turning blue and needed to be waited on right away. She immediately rushed him in the back and had the doctor wait on him. I was very pleased with the level of service I received. The office staff came out in the waiting room periodically and let me know how my dog was doing. He was in the back being treated for nearly an hour...and was completely fine when finished. I only got charged for an office visit and for the medication...very reasonably priced too. more

Dr Stephen Fenster is the best - explains procedures VERY well and treats all people like they are intelligent human beings. He is never demeaning. Dr Madsen is less personable. The front office staff, not the vet techs, but the front office schedulers and phone folks leave MUCH to be desired. I left this vet because of the front office staff and their supervisor. However good Dr Fenster is was completely degraded by the front offce staff. more

The service at Clovis Pet Hospital is very good. The staff and doctors are friendly, and they go the extra mile to make sure their patients are well cared for. Dr. Brandt waited on two of my dogs and did an excellent job with them. The exams are thorough and they are very affordable. The office is clean. The staff are knowledgeable with Great Danes, as well as other large breed dogs, so I feel comfortable taking my dogs here. more

The staff and Dr.s here are GREAT! We have a Newfoundland Mix and a St. Bernard puppy with a leg that was deformed from birth. My last vet continually recommended putting the pup down and left us disheartened. Dr. Fenster has us on a leaner diet, joint supplements and has a 110% positive outlook for Zoe. He will be our vet for our 2 pups and our 2 cats from now on. I would recommend without any hesitation!! more

I am so sorry for the previous poster's loss of their family members. It is heartwrenching to lose a member of your family.\r I work at the Clovis Vet Hospital, and we have not seen a Chihuahua for a pin removal in the past few months. I am sure that we all would have remembered an emotionally trying case like that. There is a Clovis Pet Hospital just a few blocks up the street, and I wonder if perhaps that was where the dogs were taken.\r Also, we ALWAYS offer xrays for lameness. My golden retriever that we adopted through a rescue was taken to them because he was beginning to limp. We weren't sure of his age and the doctor there suggested that we start him on arthritis treatments. They performed no tests, no x-rays, nothing! After a few months he wasn't getting any better and was actually starting to get worse. We needed to go out of town for a family vacation but wanted to board him at a vet office in case a complication arose. As soon as we got to our destination we received a call saying that he had a mass in his chest the size of a Basketball and A Half! We were stunned!!! How do you miss something so big?! It was literally pushing on his heart and other internal organs. We were then informed that his internal organs were shutting down and that we couldn't wait to put him down until we could be home with him that we needed to do it right then! Imagine our horror to hear that our beloved family member would pass away in the arms of strangers while we were thousands of miles away. Why would they not have ran more tests to make sure it was or wasn't arthritis? They probably would have found the tumor then if they had done an x- ray or some kind of tests. Maybe he still couldn't have been saved but maybe with chemo or radiation it would have bought us more time with him. Maybe he would have passed in the arms of his family instead of strangers who didn't go the extra mile for him. We did have him cremated so we could finally bring him back home where he belonged. I'm ashamed to say we continued to use them after that experience because although it was very painful we understood that people make mistakes. Continuing on with them was the worst mistake we could have ever made because we lost a healthy pet to them only a couple years after. Our chihuahua had a broken foot that required her to have surgical pins put in to help the bones heal straight. This procedure was done at another vet hospital in town with no problems. They told us that if she did well under the anesthesia that they would spay her as well and it went off without a hitch. They did tell us that eventually the pins may start to work their way out and would need to be removed if that happened. A few months later sure enough we noticed the pin close to the surface of her skin as it was working it's way out. The clinic that put them in couldn't get her in for over a week so we went back to Clovis Vet to have them remove it. We were told it was going to be a simple procedure and that it should be easily pulled out. We dropped her off that morning and a few hours later I get a call saying they had bad news. My daughters baby had a heart attack after they administered anesthesia and died on the table! Who knows how much or what they gave her but she was gone forever. It was literally like losing a baby in our family, she was just over a year old and in perfect health. She slept with my daughter every night. In fact, that was the only way we got our daughter to sleep in her own bed at night because her baby was so protective of her. I spoke to another vet after the fact and was told there was no reason to put her fully under that general anesthesia would have been the best option and all that was necessary.We had her cremated as well so we could bring her back home and reunite her with her family. I look at their urns everyday on a shelf in my living room and they are a constant reminder of our experience with Clovis Vet. I can't begin to express what we feel we have lost but I pray no one else has to ever go through the pain that our family has endured. Please, think twice about going to this clinic if you truly love your pet. I wouldn't even rate them one star but unfortunately you have to rate them or you can't share your experience at all, just an FYI. Wonderful facility, clean, friendly staff, well ventilated. Robyn Nearn is a wonderful woman. My precious baby girl, Sassy, was an 11 1/2 year old feline who had sudden kidney failure. Other pet hospitals wanted her constantly hospitalized, which was expensive, and made her miserable. Not to mention did nothing to help her. She wouldn't eat because of the stress, and other places wanted to just give up on her. Instead of that, Robyn Nearn had an assistant show me and my boyfriend how to administer subcutaneous fluids for Sassy underneath her skin, to keep her well hydrated and comfortable, while putting less stress on her kidneys. By doing this at home, we saved well over $3,000 from not hospitalizing her, and she was very happy and comfortable for 6 more weeks. Sassy was treated with respect, and when she left her appointments, she held her head high. I brought my dog in for a routine foxtail removal. they gave me an appropriate estimate and i left them to it. 2 hours later they called me claiming that it would cost an additional $300 (never mentioned as a possibility before I left my dog there). the reason for this, as I have come to know, is that they had sedated my dog improperly, tried idiotically to get up his nose when he was awake and now they needed to put him completely under because they weren't successful. of course they couldn't get their tools up his nose when he was awake! the next vet I took him to removed the foxtail within 10 minutes, easy as pie -BECAUSE MY DOG WAS PROPERLY SEDATED- and it didn't cost me anywhere near what Clovis Veterinary Hospital wanted to charge me. anyway, I had to pay Clovis Veterinary Hospital $118 to get my dog back after they had done nothing but intoxicate him. he was hardly able to stand when i took him home and he was miserably sick all night. I have since contacted them to contest the bill and they basically told me to screw off (great customer relations right?). so now i'm stuck with 2 vet bills instead of one because i made the mistake of taking my dog to Clovis Veterinary Hospital. don't make the same mistake yourself. more

Dr. Nearn is FANTASTIC!! Our 10 year old yorkie was having seizures and liver failure. Dr. Nearn very quickly identified the problem, got her on meds, and now her liver levels are near normal. Our other yorkie had breathing problems, identified by another unnamed pet hospital as an enlarged (the thing that hang down in your throat) and that nothing could be done. This yorkie was in distress, Dr. Nearn saw her right away, took x-rays, by this time the dog needed oxygen, she was blue! Dr. Nearn diagnosed a collaspsed trachea!! As a result of a wrong diagnosis from another vet, the dog now has heart enlargement and heart failure due to not being diagnosed correctly 2 years ago. No cure for a collapsed trachea, but blood thinners were the answer, so the heart did not have to work so hard to get oxygen to the lungs. In a nutshell, i would have two dead dogs by now had Dr. Nearn not seen them. She knows her stuff!!! more

I have taken our dogs here a couple of times. They worked very well with small nervous animals. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and they put you at ease. more

They are great, me and my mom both use this vet. I have Rottweilers and she has small dogs. I feel they work very well with large dogs, anyone who has a very large dog knows that some vets do not know how to handle them, their prices are fair and they are willing to talk to you about alternative treatments. I lost my Othello, my male Rottweiler, and they handleed everything for me, they put him to sleep in a private room with the family, and handled the cremation for me. It was a very sad day but they made it alittle easier for me. more

We needed a veterinarian for our sick Rottweiller quickly and stumbled across these guys (I'll tell you why we didn't use the vet in Sanger in another review). They were so fantastic! They took us right away and calmed us down while they took great care of our dog. That was 5 years ago, and since then, they have cared for our 4 dogs in one way or another. When our beloved Rott passed away last year, we received a beautiful, heartfelt sympathy card from them. They are very reasonable, and they are extraordinarily compassionate. They understand that pets are part of the family. more

Dr. Robyn Nearn is a very caring veterinarian. Her office staff is wonderful. Our dog had an emergency ear problem and no one would take him in without an appointment, Dr. Nearn said to bring him right in. She found the problem immediately and was wonderful with the follow up care. Their prices are very competitive, if not lower than anyone else in the area. You can tell that she and her staff truely love to be around animals and want only the best for them. more
